Title: Balance of the Game!
Post by: Crashfach2002 on June 19, 2010, 09:36:37 PM
I know that Rob is making this game with the balance being always in the favor of Good.  But here is my opinion!  Ultimately at the end of all days good WILL prevail.  BUT there are periods of time where evil dominates.  Some examples are before WWII the Nazis (who no one can argue that they are not evil) killed thousands of people and created a lot of fear, and was basically ignored until the world powers felt they were a big enough to go to war against them!  And if it wasn't for their arrogance and stupid decision to fight Russia during winter, we would all probably be speaking German!  Also during the time of Revelation, Satan WILL rule for a period of time before God says “enough.”  The reason I bring this up is because I love defense, and I feel that for players to want to actually play defense (especially in Type 1 – Multi Player) then there needs to be cards to make people want to use defense.  I think if you come out with a set that has dominate defensive cards, then people will want to play defense.  I also feel like having a set that is dominated by defense will allow evil to rule for a short time (until the next set is released).  I feel like if you want ALL of the cards in this game to be used, you need to make an opportunity for them to be used!  Rob has expressed that he wants people to play with defense, but some (if not most) players won’t play defense until they have something they fear or want to play!

Offense is insane right now. Defense is slow. To make defense popular and common, you'd need a bunch of seriously overpowered cards. That cannot be fixed in one set, so it will have a bunch of long term effects on the game. That doesn't sound like a good idea.

Hey,

The reason you see so little defense in T1-MP is because of the nature of the category.  You can't win T1-MP with defense, thus players tend to take out defense and put in cards that can win T1-MP.  There's really nothing we can do about that without completely changing the category (which is basically what we did with teams).

As far as T1-2P, no one likes timeouts.  The host doesn't like them because they make the tournament run longer.  Players in the game don't like them because neither player ends up feeling like they won.  Allowing defense to dominate would drastically increase the number of timeouts which isn't good for anyone.

I love defense too, and I think defense right now is about as strong as it has ever been.  TexP introduced a lot of "dominant defensive cards": Land Dispute, Philistine Outpost, Magic Charms, Nebuchadnezzar, Darius' Decree, The Gates of Hell, Wandering Spirit, Herod's Dungeon.  By comparison most of the good cards in the set were support cards, Grapes of Wrath and Meeting the Messiah are the only ones that compare at all.  If people aren't playing defense now it's not because there aren't any great defensive cards to use, it's because they don't want to play defense, and there's nothing we can do to change that.
