Title: Anyone use Woman at the Well in every deck they make?
Post by: stefferweffer on January 21, 2010, 04:50:52 PM
With her amazing ability to draw out the EC of your choice from opponent's deck, but more importantly draw out the lost soul of your choice (like Hopper or Revealer), I'm wondering if she is worthy of existing in every deck, whether you use Gold or not?  I am getting more and more frustrated in games when the opponent's lost souls are on the bottom of their deck.  OR, the two that they have out are NT only or Female only and I haven't drawn my Wander LS yet (and I can't play Harvest Time)!  OR, the lost souls are in sites and I don't have access yet (and can't play Harvest Time).

I end up doing two things that I don't like:  1)  I feel like I have to put all Heroes and ECs in my hand into play, because I don't want to discard any cards at the end of my turn.  This makes them very vulnerable to cards like Great Image, Wrath of Satan, AOC promo, etc.  2)  Even after doing this, if the opponent continues to not draw lost souls I end up having to discard enhancements, weakening my offense or defense for when I DO get a chance to do something offensively.

Now I know you might be thinking "Storehouse", but with Image of Jealousy and Deceptive Sin out there now, it is vulnerable now too.

Would there be merit in adding a card like Woman at the Well whose sole purpose (haha) is to draw out lost souls to be rescued on the NEXT turn by my "regular" heroes?  I alsi like that she could stop surprise blocks by characters like Uzzah, whom you will be able to see in territory now and plan accordingly (i.e. Holy Grail).

Thanks for discussing the merits or falacy in adding this one card for this purpose.

WatW is the best hero in the game in my opinion, and it's been that way ever since TexP came out. I might include her in a deck without any support, but I think some support could easily be afforded. One fun idea is to have just a few cards for her (Meeting the Messiah and Ambush the City come to mind immediately). Meeting the Messiah is a nice way to get rid of a human EC in a territory, and Ambush the City allows you to search for an EC, then when they block, you set aside WatW and attack with a hero who can win a battle. Also, things like exposing Uzzah or King Zed can be priceless.

I would hesitate to say she could go in ANY deck, as most decks have their own ways of dealing with LS unavailability. But if your particular strategy doesn't, I could easily see her being incorporated into most possible decks, for sure.

I don't think I've ever used her yet, because I typically like to use 1-brigade themes, and gold is tricky to make balanced. I personally don't like themes that simply cannot deal with certain other themes (AKA Demons), so I never use the cards that go with those themes. However, if your deck isn't very good at getting access or getting lost souls out, it could be fun to splash in TWatW, Thankful Leper, Meeting the Messiah, Ambush the City, and Samaritan Water Jar, or something like that. That actually sounds pretty fun, in fact.

I think W@tW is the most underrated card in TexP even though people love her. She is so awesome. She's luke reference (NT LS), woman (duh)(Women ls), and she can get the *4. But her ability is off the charts. I would make a deck around her actually. lol throw in seeker, soldier of god or something idk...xp

If you use her and Holy Grail, then they can say goodbye to the human auto-blockers that they don't have in their hands :).

ummm No.  There is no card except SoG that is in EVERY deck I make.

The deck that won T2-2P at Nationals last year didn't use SoG. ::)

Not the best hero ever

False. She is the best hero ever. Name any other hero and I'll tell you why WatW is better.

Buckler. I win.

I didn't say she was the best card in the game, just the best hero. Sheesh.
