or black.  Black is weak.

But seriously, pick a favorite theme and buy the tin(s) that support that theme.  The tins are full of great cards and boosters, too.

To start out I'd suggest priests and babylonians

Use primary colors for the heroes and secondary colors for the bad guys.

i have to disagree with ya bryon.
i'm playing a black defense and i have to say it's very decent and has quite a load of deadly cards.
and combined with crimson, dang! crimson and black are a very deadly combination

Hm...I suppose Crimson maybe has a little blue in it. :-\

Oh yeah, by the way, purple is super weak; nobody plays purple anymore, especially not with Authority of Christ. That card is terrible. ::)

I am sure new players/members are confused by forum jokes though.  That is why I try to refrain from telling them of my n00biness from the get-go.

So in all seriousness:
1.  Keep your Type1 deck small.  (It allows you to draw your good cards and dominants faster)
Ideal decks are between 50-56 cards.  You can go as large as 63 but it can be harder to get to the much needed SoG.
2.  Try to keep your offense (crosses & Bibles) and defense (dragons & skulls) down to one color each.  When starting out you will not be frustrated or confused with which Bibles to support which crosses and same with Defense.
3.  Pick colors that you have the most "battle winners" in.  Battle winners are cards that end the battle in your favor:  Generally, they discard, capture, convert, remove, shuffle your opponent away from battle.  There are more but look for those cards that take your opponent out of battle.
4.  Sites are generally good, and help stall your opponents.
5.  Artifacts help support what you are hoping to do, but generally speaking only 3-4 are needed per deck.
6.  Lost souls with special abilities are awesome and help slow your opponent down.

These are some great things to go by, and they help you start with a strong foundation from which you can explore the nuances of redemption (with card combos).

not using orange is not a forum joke. I honestly don't think orange is tournament worthy. or red. I wanted to use red, but my idea was suicide attempts, and that can be done more effectively with other characters like Ehud and Michael

that your wrong, bubbleboy.
i use purple and i happen to know my purple offense and my black defense ALMOST beat gabe.

and to everyone: i don't take forum jokes cause what's the differance between an actual jke and a forum joke?

the differance is

And don't use the Garden Tomb fortress, PLEASE.

(This is a joke, and Garden Tomb can be quite powerful.  It's just the current bane of my favorite deck :)

Remember Kiddies, Listening to good players is a bad thing. Listening to someone who can't take an obvious joke and is throwing a temper tantrum over it is a GREAT IDEA!

oh yes, and the splash decks everyone is going to be playing at regionals. splash meaning: Haman, Uzzah, Persian Presidents (with Raider's Camp), King Zed (with Dungeon's and Haman's plotters...). yuppers, t1 and 2 is going to be all brown, er... splash. auto-block?

Not to annoy or offend anyone, but seriously, most advice regarding what brigades are good and bad is personal opinion, so don't be upset when their opinion doesn't coincide with yours.  IMHO, all colors are at least somewhat viable except one (though to prevent further argument, I will refrain from saying which ;)).  Use whichever color fits your fancy.

And seriously guys, try to avoid petty arguments...we've got plenty of those as it is.  If someone says something that you think is out of line, just ignore it. =D

Black is weak and Orange is weak (if coming from someone in Minnesota or West Minnesota) are forum jokes. Ring Wraith's brown splash comment was poking fun at the fact he believes everyone will be playing brown. They weren't meant to be taken seriously.

I personally do play Orange/Brown in my t2  ::)

That is exactly the point I'm trying to make. :)  The problem was that some people were taking such comments seriously.
