A stalemate game

I have to apologize because I'm fairly new to this game and terminology. Since we started playing we have encountered numerous times where neither of us can take a turn. For example, it is my turn but I have no heroes to initiate battle and no cards left to draw so I pass....my opponent also has no heroes to play or I have no lost souls to rescue and he passes. This isn't in the rulebook so I don't know what to call it but a stalemate, although I know a stalemate in battle phase is something different.

I guess my question is what are you supposed to do in this situation when neither of you can draw new cards or lay cards from your hand down to initiate battle phase? The best idea I could come up with was to discard some cards from hand and then draw that number again from draw pile but I don't know the official rule or if there is one. Thanks.

If neither of you can make any more rescue attempts then the player who has the most lost souls at that point wins. if you are tied than it's a tie haha

You had me until this statement. Each turn you draw three cards at the beginning of your turn (during the draw phase). You never have to discard cards to draw them. At the end of your turn, you can only have 8 cards in your hand, but you draw three at the beginning regardless.

Ah, so maybe we have been doing this all wrong.  I thought you were supposed to draw enough cards to equal 8 cards each turn. That is what we have done.

So if you draw 3 cards regardless, what are you supposed to do with the cards in excess of 8 still in your hand before the end of the turn (assuming that you can't lay them down anywhere)?

You discard cards from hand until you're down to 8 (10 if you have Tables of the Law active).

Well, that makes sense now. I'll be anxious to see how much smoother playing is this way.

Furthermore, you only have to Discard down to 8 if you are unable or unwilling to get rid of excess cards by playing Heroes, Sites, Fortresses, face-down Artifacts, or any other card you can legally play outside of battle.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
