Official Rules & Errata / Rotation
« Last post by happyjosiah on March 19, 2025, 10:05:09 AM »
Thinking about getting back into the game (well, specifically getting some kids at church into the game) and wondering about Rotation. Is there any indication that 4th edition cards are likely to be rotated out in the near future?

5th edition has only the starters and two sets at this point, so that's not much of a card pool, but I don't want the kids to invest in something that's planned to be obsolete in just a year or so. Thanks!

Major Updates List Above:
Duration
Manually Triggered Effects (pg. 6)
Triggered Effects (pg. 7)
- Both updated to be usable while the ability persists, utilizing the updated duration rules to simplify these sections

Ongoing Effects (pg. 10)
- Updated a sentence about duration to refer to the duration section

Duration (pg. 14)
- Overhauled section to define how durations are intended to work

Instead (pg. 19)
- Removed a Special Conditions bullet about instead persisting similar to triggers

Hold
Hold (pg. 49)
- Added that a hold can only target each card once each Prep Phase
- Added that characters can be held from hand (for The Darkness)
- Added that characters held face down from hand are not revealed, and character held face down from elsewhere are flipped face down

Ignore converted to Withdraw
Ignore (pg. 50)
- Entry removed, and section linked to Withdraw

Withdraw (pg. 87)
- Added a new Special Condition to state that the various wordings for Ignore mean Withdraw now

Begin a New Phase
Begin a New Phase (pg. 28)
- An actual definition that covers the Begin a New Battle effects in II and older sets

OTHER UPDATES
General:
- General wording updates for consistency

Conditions (pg. 9)
- Updated to "if you do not" to be a broader check, rather than several specific things

Targeting (pg. 11-13)
- Updated modifiers to target set-aside area as well as play. No real change, just something overlooked when making that update elsewhere.
- Updated character targets for Hold to include hand, as described in Hold above
- Updated the section on Lost Soul targeting to include captured characters and face down cards, since all of that is similar
- Added a section about requiring a choice of a valid target when presented mandatory options (i.e., King Tig requires a choice with a valid target unless none have a valid target)

Ability Activation Order (pg. 15)
- Updated to clarify everything that happens past the current step is delayed to the appropriate step

Capture (pg. 31) and Rescue (pg. 68)
- Added "Artifacts activated on" to the list of cards that get discarded

Choose Opponent (pg. 33)
- Adjusted wording to clarify that you can't choose an invalid target to restrict the player from blocking
- Added a clarification that blocking a specific character (Snatched Spear, Jephthah's Daughter) requires that character to be in battle or the choose does nothing

Convert (pg. 34)
- Added a new bullet that TC characters converted in territory only remain active if they meet the criteria to activate

Equip (pg. 43)
- Updated when equip plays the weapon to account for Asahel equipping a weapon already in battle

Search (pg. 74)
- Players cannot choose to fail a search they do not control
- Added a clarification that "search for X and put in play" overrides the take

Battle Phase (pg. 92)
- Updated to account for cards played or used outside of but during the battle (like Doms or placed Enhancements)

Battle Resolution (pg. 93)
- Added that Sites remaining in battle return to territory with the characters

Captured Character (pg. 96) and Face Down (pg. 104)
- Moved targeting rules to Targeting and linked there, as described above

Lost Souls (pg. 110)
- Added a sentence about targeting rules in Targeting

Unity (pg. 124)
- Added a line that cards that disrupt their own Unity complete their instant abilities

ORDIR UPDATES
- Added II and a bunch of promos (up through the State and Regional promos this year)
- Added Captain of the Host (not a prophet) to the Identifier Errata List, Removed Barsabbas (is a missionary)
- Fortress of Antonia removed from Roman Site or Fortress, since it doesn't meet the definition

Rules Announcements / REG 10.0 and ORDIR 6.0 Change Log
« Last post by RedemptionAggie on March 11, 2025, 01:48:23 PM »
The latest updates for the REG, ORDIR and Host Guide are live!

Host Guide - No More Checking Multiple Decks
There is an update to the host guide, and players can no longer check multiple decks and are limited to 1 deck per category.

These are the significant updates to rules in the REG. There is NOT an update to negate at this time.

Duration
Duration now has an actual definition, and the status quo is restored for the "while equipped" and similar abilities that were only intended to last one phase. There are a couple of other changes as well:
1) The "permanent" cards (Sites, Forts, Artifacts, Lost Souls) end when removed or deactivated. The simple explanation for that is "current phase" should be a default, and those card types override that default.
2) Triggers can only be used while the ability persists, so they don't usually linger on those permanent cards. This change does impact some optional "after battle" abilities on characters that have always persisted but are now easier to use.

Hold
There are 2 updates to hold:
1) Hold can hold characters from hand and hold cards face down from territory, so The Darkness promo works.
2) A hold effect can only target each card once in each Prep Phase, so each card can either move in or out, but not both. This hampers the Heavenly Host/Chamber of Angels and Ashkelon/Raiders' Camp combos, stopping them from working with just 1 card, but they can still work if there are multiple cards to rotate through.

Ignore
Ignore has been combined with Withdraw, so all ignore abilities now function as a withdraw ability.

Begin a New Phase
This is a new definition, so there's a reference for older cards and the II cards that use "Begin a New Battle".

Introduction:

For the past two years I have run a drawing fundraiser to get Oregon teenager(s) to the Redemption National Tournament. The playgroup I run is mostly made up of teenagers and being located on the Oregon coast we are about as far as it gets in the United States from Nationals each year. Therefore it is hard for families to afford the cost of getting their teens to Nationals. The last two drawing fundraisers were a huge success. In 2023 we were able to bring three teenagers to Nationals from our playgroup. Last year we managed to bring two teenagers to Nationals. Thank you to all who donated the past two years!

The Drawing Fundraiser 2025 Edition Prize:

Our goal is to bring as many teens as we can to Redemption Nationals 2025 through a brand new drawing fundraiser.

This year I have a full set of the special Nationals promos from the 2024 Redemption National Tournament that will be the prize for the drawing. Here is a picture of that set:

https://landofredemption.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/IMG_7249.webp

How This Works:

Here is how the drawing will work: for every $20 you donate to the drawing fundraiser you will receive a ticket in the drawing. So if you donate $60 for instance you would receive 3 tickets in the drawing. When the fundraiser is ended we will do a drawing and reveal the sole winner of the prize. One winner will receive the entire prize lot.

You can make donations by sending them through PayPal via the friends and family option to: cchessbball[at]comcast[dot]net

I will update here the current status of the drawing fundraiser. Please note in the description for your donation if you want to be anonymous or have your name shared along with your donation amount.

Current amount raised: $170.

Donation History:

03-08-25: Anonymous- $20.
03-08-25: Vampire Creations- $50.
03-09-25: Anonymous- $60.
03-15-25: 57Enterprises LLC- $40.
