Train Derailment
« on: August 05, 2010, 11:18:54 PM »
I have been apart from my family for over three weeks now, but was looking forward to their return this coming Sunday. They were going to be coming home on the Amtrak Silver Star that travels up and down the east coast every day. They were going to pick up the train at Raleigh, NC and take it all they way into Orlando. My children both love Thomas the Tank Engine, so I thought taking the train would be fun.

However, we just received an automated call from Amtrak saying that the train was cancelled because of a coal train derailment in Quantico, VA. We have to call them to figure out what to do now. I ask for prayer that Amtrak will either provide an alternate mode of transportation, or that another idea will surface.

Obviously God has a plan that was better than the original. I mean, seriously, a coal train derailment? How often does that happen? I don't know if this falls under unlikely, improbable, or a miracle. I guess if something good happens because of this, then it will officially be called a miracle.

Pray for my wife, especially, since she is moving along in her pregnancy and needs to see her doctor immediately upon her return. She is already overdue for her next ultrasound, so further delays would be troublesome.
My wife is a hottie.

I am quoting myself just to refute my claim of Divine Intervention. After reading about the derailment in an online Virginia newspaper, it turns out that this is the third coal train derailment in the MidAtlantic states in the past couple of months. I guess this will officially bump the incident down to occasional.

Amtrak was able to get her onto Tuesday's train. At first they were saying we would have to wait another week, but they must be making special accomodations, because this morning they were very helpful.

Thank you for your prayers!  ;D

Amtrak is the best way to travel if you are on a tight budget.  ;)

Cheapest airfares for 3 people exceeded $300.
Greyhound buses for 3 people exceeded $250.
Amtrak for 3 people was $170.

It would have cost me $150 in gas to drive there.

I've been cross-country twice on sleepers (not cheap), and it was wonderful.  Amtrak also works with park rangers to act as tour guides across the US.
