I wanted to let my friends know, especially if you haven't noticed my facebook status, that tonight is the last night I will spend with my dog. I and my family will need your prayers.
Especially my sons, all they have ever known is Dakota since we got him before they were all born. It is a tough decision and a part of me doesn't want to go through it. I know it's just a dog but I think those with beloved pets for lots of years will understand.

Sory...praying for you

I do understand, and I will pray.

I know what you mean. We've only had our dog for five years, but he's practically the center point of our life. (Okay, slight hyperbole.) I'll pray for you and your family.

I know it's just a dog ...
Nope. He is part of the family and always will be. We are praying for you.
I am allergic to animal fur and my parents found out early. Back in the day, the only dog that people really knew would not trigger allergies was a poodle. My grandfather bought a poodle for my 5th birthday. She lived for 20 years before we had to put her to sleep. She was blind, deaf, and had many malignant tumors, so my family decided it was time. That was a hard day, and my parents have never owned another pet since (that was 15 years ago).

I've been through the whole pet loss thing at least six times... I know what you are going through. :'(

Very tough
Praying

Sorry to hear about it. Was it just old age or were their other complications?
-
First, thank you for your prayers...they are helping in different ways.
Praise God, the kids took the news better than I expected.
Also, praise God, the vets prognosis was a little better than I expected.
@ Crustpope, a lot of it is age.
Vet's prognosis:
He has two tumors...1 on his stomach and 1 on the liver. Both are untreatable.
He has some life left in him. He believes Dakota can go at least another 6 months if we....
take it easy on him: no more walks, no more rough housing
give him doggy tylenol (not human tylenol) when he has rough (sore) days
start feeding him canned cat food ( it has fish which is more natural for huskies for easier chewing and digestion.)
So we are going to do our best to keep him around a bit longer. Ultimately, age and tumors will get him, but I'm not putting him down if he has more time on the clock.
Again, thank you for your prayers.

Praise God for the good news, and I'll still pray for you guys :)

thats awesome that you can keep him longer!

The Vet missed on his guess for how long we had with Dakota (name of our sick dog). He died this morning sometime between 7:30 AM & 9:30 AM. I'm filled with mixed emotion as is the rest of the family because our newest addition to the family was born this afternoon. We knew it wouldn't be long when he stopped eating stuff that dogs love (tuna, chicken, hot dogs-->we were spoiling him after we found out about the tumors). Thanks for your prayers. He was a great dog and will be sorely missed.
