BIG NEWS and Prayer Request
« on: July 21, 2013, 08:16:57 AM »
good morning and a happy Lord's sunday to you all my brothers and sisters in Christ and fellow redemptioneers!
today is a very special sunday, because I have one of the biggest news since ive been in the game next to me going to nationals last year so hear it goes;
today at around 4 o'clock, even though im Baptist, im gonna be going to my temporary home church at Bethpage United Methodist to teach a group of kids how to play Redemption! I've shown the game to a couple people at church and they seemed VERY interested. So, I'm hoping this won't go without a hitch and possibly start a Redemption Playgroup! Things look good, I'm excited to be able to introduce the game to a new generation of possible Redemption Players, and I'm confident to launch a new Redemption Playgroup coming out of Tennessee.
please pray that the Lord will give me the right words to say to get the kids hooked on this game and give me the right teaching approach to bring interest. I don't have any teaching experience so this is new to me but that didn't stop God's prophets from doing his will, and neither will my inexperience hold me down and discourage me from teaching a whole new generation, the game of Redemption.
but please pray for me. thanks everyone!

alright, I didn't know until when I went to church but I jumped the gun a little bit cause, plans changed and they didn't meet sunday but they changed the meeting to in a couple weeks, but im hoping and praying i'll do something for the redemption community within Bethpage united Methodist church that'll set the church on fire for the game and have daily tournaments

I pray that the church is open to your ideas and the game.

Since you have a couple of weeks to prepare, I would suggest you think about how you will react, and what you will say, if the church spurns Redemption. I have had this happen on more than one occasion in different states. The most frequent complaints deal with the demons, horrific/risqué images on some cards, or just CCGs in general (which some pastors believe all spawn from the devil).

You may not have any opposition, but I would recommend that you consider what you would say if they mention any of these concerns. Being calm and prepared helps avoid confrontation. Also, if you have not yet shown them the cards, consider making starter decks yourself, that way you can leave out the demons for now. I chose to use historical civs for the starters, like Babylonians, Egyptians, etc. For the heroes, Priests and Red banding are usually safe themes.

For the risqué images, I just told the church and parents that I would remove them from my collection boxes (where the students get their cards from me for free), and then try to monitor the opening of packs as best I could. The cards I removed back in the day, for instance, were the Bathsheba, Whore of Babylon, and Herodias cards. Realize that these were very young male players with very protective parents.

Anyway, good luck on getting things started, and let me know if there is anything you need. I can give you my phone number when your playgroup gets under way, so that you can call me if you have questions during tournaments or in preparation for them.

I've shown the cards to the youth minister named Dave Woodard and he's VERY interested in the game and wants to help me and a couple of other people at the church are also interested but im gonna see if the pastor will be interested. this church seems to be very open and accepting to the game and that's a good sign for what may come

If New Raven doesn't end up wanting those, I know another guy hoping to start a playgroup down in FL who might be interested in them.

that's ok. I myself have a ton of cards to trade, sell, or possibly give away but i've told the group about the game and told them to go on cactusgamedesign.com or lifeway to pick up a starter deck, which should be the best way to start a playgroup with people who dont know much about the game other then what i've shown them. they're beginners and i'm hoping to get them hooked, but for them a good place to start is with a starter deck (obviously lol) and go on from there. i mean, i just wanna go easy on em to show them the ropes of the game and time permitted, i start handling out cards maybe using the means of a booster draft but for my duplicates and cards i dont need. cause i dont plan on playing type 2 again anytime soon. type 1 is more my game. but like i said, it would be cool to use my duplicates to hand em out in a way that's like booster draft
