Anxiety
« on: March 05, 2014, 01:12:13 PM »
I could use prayer. Lately I have been paralyzed with fear and anxiety stemming from lack of a plan after I graduate college. I believe I have a proper call from God to serve on a college campus by being a professor and working with a Campus Ministry in that context, however, my graduate applications were denied at the schools I applied to (which admittedly were top schools) and so I don't have many options left. I am very afraid of not being accepted to the last few schools I could apply to and having to get a job because I have no idea what that will look like. I don't understand how it will lead to God's call to a campus, which I feel strongly and has been confirmed in my opinion by other people.

Prayers going up brother.

There are multiple of us in grad school who did not start directly after finishing undergraduate. If you would have told me nine years ago that I was going to work at Best Buy, then substitute teach before becoming an academic advisor while working on my Masters then have to go to two different universities for my doctorate while never having a full-time job before six months ago, I would have probably crawled into a ball and cried...But God has been with me in each of those situations, and God is with you as well too.

From a practical perspective, I would suggest taking some time to fill out the what if scenarios, and see what alternates are available to you. Worst case, while it may not be preferable, you do have current employment with Chik-Fil-A, which you can use as you navigate through your next steps

Yeah, I hear what you are saying. I am blessed to be working right now. It's been taking a toll on me with school, but I know I can't let go of the work because of my unknown future. I've even been offered a promotion at Chick-fil-a that makes the position much more tenable long term, so God is certainly looking out for me.
