Miracles on the Horizon!

I still sign onto the boards every couple of weeks, mostly just to see the progress of your son. Praying brother. I can't imagine the process you've went through, constantly searching the process of a drug that could still be ineffective. But I'm praying for success at the least, and a miracle at the most. Remember that God heals things no physical cure can touch. Blessings to you.

Yeah, even though I'm terrible at staying in touch and making it known, I do still check here and pray for all of you.  We know that God is good and that in the end it God will work things out for your family but it is nice to see some of the blessings now.  Definitely hopeful for seeing healing begin for Micah in the near future.  Grateful to God that someday the healing will absolutely be perfectly completed.  Praying for your family (and all of us) to be strengthened in faith until then.  Thank you for sharing with us.

P.S.  My phone may or may not have been allegedly dropped and flushed down the toilet so I lost all my contacts including your phone #.  Hoped that at some point we could all get together again.  Miss seeing many of my Redemption friends, including you Matt.

Update:  The FDA passed the drug.  My son now has a treatment for his DMD. It is the first and currently only drug that can be used to treat his condition. You can read about it Here

I want to thank all my friends here for praying for Micah over the years.  This is a recent picture of Micah and I, taken this past summer at his first MDA summer camp.



As you can see, he gets all his good looks from his mother...



But I think he gets his brains from me!

I haven't been around here on the boards much for a while, but felt like God was leading me to the Prayer part of the forum today.  I'm glad I did, as it was wonderful to see how God has worked in the life of your family.  I'm so happy for you that this treatment is now available!

Zombifying this thread again.  It has been a year later and my son Micah is still doing well.  He lost a point on his most recent North Star diagnostic test at his most recent checkup ( it is a test to evaluate how quickly and how strongly he responds to various activity requests)  My wife thinks it was just because he was not paying attention when he was asked to get up off the floor.  When he did it this time, instead of just popping up off the floor (one time he did that so fast the Dr. didn't have time to start the stopwatch!) this time he wasn't paying attention and it took him longer to get up. Plus he pushed off his knee with his hand as he got up, which is a classic sign of what they call the "Gowers" manoever, which is what patients with DMD often resort to to compensate for reduced strength in his legs.

Unlike years before, we have seen some progression of the disease in him.  Most notably, his calf muscles are getting bigger as they compensate for loss of muscle mass in his Quads.

Currently he is still walking unassisted.  Plus there are some REALLY exciting gene therapy options that are being tested right now.  We are hopeful that he will become a candidate for one of the trials or that the therapy will be approved as soon as possible.

I understand that the news this time is a bit sadder, as you are starting to see some of the signs of the disease show up more noticeably.  I continue to pray for Micah and your family.  May God's will be done, and we know that His plan is the best plan for Micah and you

I am hurting today.  Our good friend Matt Archibald (Crustpope) posted this on Facebook today.

"Last night we shut all Micah's sedatives and paralytic meds off.  I slept in the hospital bed with him, played his nighttime songs, and held his hand all night.  We waited to see if he would come back to us.  But unfortunately, God needed him more.  Micah went into the arms of Jesus this afternoon.  Hardest thing we've ever done.  He went peacefully.  We are devastated.  We appreciate all the prayers for a miracle for our little boy, but sometimes God says no. "

We do not grieve as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).  But we DO still grieve.

Thanks for finding this, Mark. My wife and I had been following closely the past few days on FB. They are planning a memorial service but are waiting until they are over covid.
