Title: Prayers for Quadrate

I am asking for prayers on behalf of Mike T. a.k.a. The Quadfather. I was just chatting with him and his brother is in very serious condition after complications from open heart surgery.
Here's what Mike shared with me:

"33 yrs old, has bad heart, has a defibrillator which regulates his heartbeat
his defib broke, he went into the hosp to get it fixed, he then got a hole ripped in his heart
it was fixed, then had to have full blown open heart surgery
things were grave but ok, then, after surgery, he bloated up to 2x his normal size
stopped breathing, did not get oxygen to his brain for over 4 minutes
and as of now, has 10-13 tubes,wires, cords - attached to him, no brain waves
no response, machines keep him alive. they cannot guarantee his survival through the night"

Prayers for Quadrate, his brother and their entire family (his brother has a wife and child) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys, will keep you updated, Mike will likely post here when/if he has some spare time, otherwise I will try to keep you updated.

These are things as far as I know as of 11:45am Central Time:

Mark still is not breathing on his own - he is on 100% respirator

His extreme blood loss appears to be letting up.

His vital signs appear to have stabilized (heart rate, blood pressure, etc.)

He is still retaining alot of fluid - meaning he is still very swollen especially in his face - he is not recognizable at this time.

He is not responding to external stimuli meaning his brain is not having his body respond to sound, needle sticks, bright lights, etc...

There are conflicting reports that it is his brain stem that is the most damaged meaning:

1) Once he comes off the respirator - he passes away.

2) Once he comes off the respirator - he is no longer Mark, he is a "vegetable". - these two things are not definite - just most likely...

One doctor says "the plug" could be pulled today - one doctor said it could be days before an intelligent decision can be made.

My mom, sister and Mark's wife are in a complete shambles and "have gone through five entire boxes of Kleenex". And as we all know, once a Kleenex has been used once - it becomes a Dirtyex. heeee...

...if this sounds like alot to deal with - it is...

Post by: The Quadfather on January 08, 2009, 01:31:25 PM: Yes, he was an avid follower of Christ. He helped out with the church and taught Sunday School occassionaly. He was one of them there fine Christian men. Thanks again, all. Oddly enough, his wife is still keeping him on life support machines despite the fact that there is absolutely no brain activity. Today is Thursday the 8th of January and she will have him officially disconnected at 4pm this afternoon just to make sure that anyone and everyone who can be there - will be there. Plz keep us in your hearts for a while longer my fine Redemption brethren...
