Our daughter KiaLee Wilson!
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:39:59 AM »
Hello, it has been a long time since I have been on here. My apologies to all who I haven't talked to in a while. August 8th 2011 our daughter KiaLee was diagnosed with stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease. We new before that that there just wasn't something right about the pains in her stomach and the constant bed wetting. Many doctor come and went with a negative diagnsis but my wife insisted that there was something wrong. Finally we came upon a new doctor just a year out of med school. His daughter come to find out has a disease that would only a allow her to enjoy life till her 30's. After 3 different tests and a sample sent to Denver, CO they immediately called us and asked us to be in Denver that next Monday. Thankfully KiaLee did not need dialysis. The doctors were stund at the fact that for her age and the size of her kidneys that she only needed a few medicine. One of her kidneys is half the size of her other one and the other is only using a quarter of it potential. They called her the Miracle Girl. Her growth was stunted a little bit, she only weighed 31 lbs. further testing found a tether at the base of the spinal chord. The doctors soon scheduled an operation to cut the tether and release the pleasure that was causing her stunted growth. After the success she was soon placed on the kidney transplant list. June 19th 2012 we got the call that a donor had been found. We packed our bags and arranged sitting for the other three children and arrived in Denver 230am June 20th 2012. They did basic tests so when the kidney arrived she would be ready. Transplants usually last 3-4 hrs. Kia was out in 2 and a half hrs. With great success. She is in recovery as we speak and up and around sooner than expected so much so she shocked the doctors again by saying this morning "can I go for a walk?" That made us all laugh and beam with pride and joy. Not only are the doctors surprised about the whole journey and they didn't expect the outcome to be as good as planned but that are still amazed as to the strength that she has and the willingness to not quit when the going gets tough. For a 7 year old to go through what she has is a miracle only bestowed by God our heavenly Father. People, friends and family of Casper, WY and surrounding areas have rallied together since last year to put together fund raisers and benefits to help with our endeavor. We thank all who have prayed and to those who will start and keep praying for KiaLee as she will have to live with medicine and maybe another transplant for the rest of her life. Also as to the donor of the kidney please pray for her family wherever that are for there loss of a loved one. Not only was she a donor to our daughter but also a heart, lungs, liver and the other kidney to other people in need as well. World wide kidneys donors are scanned for antigens that match those in need. 2-3 matches is good but they look for 6 major antigens for a successful transplant. 1 in 100,000 transplants result in a perfect match. Mismatched antigens are harder to deal with. More meds. More chances of rejection in the future. Identical twins are the only perfect matches for each other. Even though the donor was a lot older than KiaLee but also was a perfect match. She was identical. God works in miraculous ways. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your journey.  I just said a prayer for your family as well as the family of the donor.

It's wonderful to hear that! God is so good, isn't he?
