Playgroup "Level" & "Introduction" decks
« on: April 01, 2022, 01:29:50 PM »
These decks have been created to give your new Redemption players a pathway to begin their journey into playing Redemption. The goal is for the new player to see the different aspects of what a Redemption deck can look like and teach some very important card types of the game that are needed to succeed. The first four decks are a “step-up” system where the decks get harder as you play the next one and each deck has a specific teaching goal in mind (which is explained with the deck list).

One HUGE note for every single deck that follows is that each deck has been built with the idea of keeping the “integrity” of the deck intact above everything else. This means that these decks will sacrifice “power” and consistency to teach the aspect it is trying to teach. So, if you have suggestions for edits to the deck, keep in mind that the goal of these decks is to always be built and not have to be created in a moment’s notice. This means that any suggestion of an “expensive” card will most likely not carry much weight as most people do not have “expensive” cards they can simply not keep for themselves. This also helps keep the decks quite a bit easier to beat. The goal of these decks again is to be an introduction to things, not a deck that is so difficult to beat people get frustrated.

These decks are broken into two sections. The first is what I call “level decks.” These again are the “step up” decks and add something new to the decks as a first introduction to Redemption. Again, to keep them simple, I had some kind volunteers who played against these decks using only the I/J starter decks and were able to beat them. So newer players will eventually be able to beat these with some practice and do it even quicker if they are able to add some quality cards to their starters!

In a “perfect world” you will hopefully be able to reward your new players each time they beat a deck. You as an individual need to determine what you can “afford” to give out as prizes after each win. I would incentivize you to give a “better” reward after beating the “Level 4” Deck as well as beating all 12 “Introduction” decks as those will be huge milestones your players will be seeking! If you have questions or want any suggestions for potential prizes, please feel free to contact me. 😊

For reference most of these cards are classic cards because they were not created with rotation in mind. While there are several of these decks that can be built and keep their integrity within a rotation style deck, there are some where the lynchpin of the deck would no longer exist within rotation. So while several of these need to be updated as my updates from PoC and later have simply been “Oh wait this is a good card for one of my decks!” So I need to go back through (really every) rotation sets and start to update these, so you can help if you would like. 😊

“Level 1” Deck: (Introduction to Redemption)
This deck is the most basic deck you can build. There are no special abilities within this deck and it is simply teaching the importance of numbers and initiative. This is also a huge morale boost to someone who is starting out on their journey, as they get a couple of simple wins.

Lost Souls:
Meek LS x 7

Dual-Alignment Card:
Philosophy

Heroes:
Angel of Revelation x 3
Legion of Angels x 4
Reassuring Angel x 3

Good Enhancements:
Sword of the Lord

Pilate’s Soldier x 4

Evil Enhancements:
Sun Worship
Fortresses of Ashdod x 3

Sword x 3

“Level 2” Deck: (The Power of the Battle Winners)
Now that your new player understands how initiative works, we get to introduce them to how to manipulate that initiative. This deck utilizes small-numbered characters with only battle winners. This teaches the importance of negates and even banding (against most of the enhancements). The weakness here is that you do not have any negates or banding, so it is always a single character in battle to try to play the battle winners.

Dominants:
Angel of the Lord
Son of God
Burial
Christian Martyr
Strife
Vain Philosophy

Lost Souls:
*/4
N.T. Only
Wanderer

“Level 3” Deck: (You Don’t Get to Do That, Sorry!)
Now that your new player understands how important both initiative and battle winners are, you play the deck that whips up on that deck. Welcome the big-bodied characters backed by negate after negate! Being able to undo everything your opponent can do is such a huge thing and this will teach the importance of cannot be interrupted/negated enhancements. There is also a natural weakness to banding as this deck has no battle winners itself to remove characters from the battle.

Dominants:
Angel of the Lord
Son of God
Burial
Christian Martyr
Strife
Vain Philosophy

Lost Souls:
*/4
N.T. Only
Withdraw
Wanderer
Female Only
Punisher
Speed Bump

Artifacts:
Burial Shroud
David’s Harp
Tables of the Law

Site:
Dragon Raid

Heroes:
Chananiah
Covenant Keepers
Elders of the City
Elhanan
Jairus
Joseph
King Amaziah
Thaddaeus
Zerubbabel

Good Enhancements:
The Coming Prince
Faith of Moses
Family Bond
Blessings
Burning Bush
Cymbals of the Levites
Moses and Elders
Undefiled
Words of Encouragement

Evil Characters:
Abaddon the Destroyer
Adonijah
Goliath
High Priest of Ananias
Ishbibenob
Saph
Strong Demon
The Twelve-Fingered Giant

Evil Enhancements:
Baal Worship
Bringing Fear
Denying Blame
Devourer
Foolish Advice
Ishbibenob’s Sword
Philistine Chariot and Horses
Political Savvy

“Level 4” Deck: (Can’t Touch This!)
Now that we know the importance of initiative, battle winners, and negates, we get to play the deck that whips up on both of those. Welcome to the world of BBTN (Battle by the numbers) and protection! Your battle winners don’t work because they are prevented, or you can’t target me. Now we learn the importance of cannot be prevented cards as well as cards that interrupt/negate characters and not just enhancements. The inherent weakness of this deck is the lack of solid enhancements. Plus, each character is only protected from certain things, so if someone is running multiple types of characters, like the starters, you will likely have a character that can get past certain protection.

Dominants:
Angel of the Lord
Son of God
Burial
Christian Martyr
Destruction of Nehushtan
Strife
Vain Philosophy

Lost Souls:
*/4
Hopper
N.T. Only
Wanderer
Female Only
Punisher

Anti-Angel

Dual-Alignment Card:
Philosophy

Artifacts/Curses:

Elijah’s Mantle
Captured Ark
Unsuccessful
Confusion of Mind

Fortresses:
The Darkness
Wall of Protection

Heroes:
Daniel
Ira
Moses
Shamhuth
Benaiah
Captain of the Host
The Strong Angel

Good Enhancements:
Fountains of Living Water
Godspeed
Live Coal
Loaves and Fishes
Sing and Praise

After this deck, you now get to congratulate your new player as they know all the basics of Redemption. They now get to play what I call “Introduction” decks. These decks are simply that. They are an introduction to a certain aspect of deck building and deck types within Redemption. Because we are now integrating all the previous lessons as well as a new style of play, all these decks are almost solely going to be focused on their certain aspect. So again, as you have suggestions for upgrades anything that is either “too expensive” or doesn’t help the “goal” of the deck, will probably not be implemented. The hope and goal of these decks is to let your new players figure out which type of deck(s) they enjoy the most and build a deck based on that.

Abom (Territory Destruction):
This deck is about removing as much as possible from the opponent’s territory. This implements the card Abomination of Desolation to maximize it. Re: Playgroup "Level" & "Introduction" decks
« Reply #9 on: April 01, 2022, 02:31:00 PM »
I have been asked by multiple people to resurrect these decks, so here they are. These decks list are what my built decks currently have in them and some of them DESPERATELY need updating. So if you have suggestions for updates PLEASE tell me! I already know Plague of Hail needs to go into the Deck Discard deck, so what do I take out? I also know the Heroless needs major updating and probably the new GoC Pharisees/Sadducees, but other suggestions are great!

THE BIG RULE:
When it comes to suggestions, keep in mind I create these decks with the intention of them always being built and never using these cards for anything else. Given that information that means rotation URs will never enter these decks because that is simply too costly. There are several other cards that are either too costly or hard to acquire for them to enter these decks. So please keep cost of cards in mind while making suggestions.

Another note is that I do NOT want these decks to be highly competitive that will win a state or higher tournament. So if you simply want to add Deceiver, Delivered, an Emperor with Denarius in every deck, then go help someone else with deck building. :P  But seriously, these are for new players to play against, not competitive long term players. If you want to create your own competitive version, have fun as several of these decks are simply a ton of fun to play!

Also, if there are suggestions for other deck archetypes, please let me know. If they are pretty similar to one of the above, they might not be implemented, but if they are different enough then we for sure need to do so. Also a small (if not full) deck list of what should be included would go a long way to helping create that deck!

Thank you for dealing with the walls of text! Hope this helps a few people out!
