WA/OR/NV/NorCal Nationals Planning Thread

The great news is that the West gets Nationals this year!   :amen:

Now it's time to start planning.  We have several players/groups who want to or will attend Nationals.  This is the thread where we can discuss traveling and lodging details.  Some are going as families and some are going individually.  If we can pair up drivers, passengers, vehicles, and hotel room arrangements ahead of time, that will help everyone involved.

As for me, right now I am planning Nationals to be a family vacation.  I will not have any room in our vehicle for the trip.  Furthermore, we will be going for almost two weeks.  But, there may be a chance we can have two or three players room with us in our hotel room.  I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks everyone!   :)

West Coast Natz '09   8)

This is currently being planned as a family vacation for us and I will have a full vehicle for a nearly 2 week vacation. There may be the possibility of having a couple players in our room also.  I will keep this thread updated from my end as I get plans worked out.

I plan on driving down and may have my wife and members of my youth group going down with me.  If no youth go with me I will only have the truck I will be taking and that wont have room for anyone else.  If some youth go I will probably take our church van and might be able to have a few people ride down with me if you help pay for gas and live along the I-5 corridor.  This isn't for sure since it is the church van and not my own. :dunno:

As I said here: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=14318.0 the Reno playgroup is looking for carpool ideas.

Well due to my wife being due Oct. 8th she wont be going with me but I still have permission to go so I'll just do my usual drive straight down through and back.  It will be LEGANDARY!!!

Josh, do you think you may be able to pick up others along the way?  For instance, if some of the NV players were able to get to Redding, would you be able to take some with you?

Ben, are you going with your family, or will you try to hitch a ride with Josh?

If I took my truck down I would have room for 3 others possibly.  Ben still isn't completely sure what he is going to do.  He may have a few guys fly out and drive down with him, his family may go or possibly go with me if the previous two don't work.  I can talk with my the transportation guy here to see if I could use the church van meaning I would have more room.  I may have 1 or 2 youth going with me.  So if I take the truck it could be full or I could have 3 open spots. LOL  If I take the church van it seats 15 including teh driver so I would have plenty of room for others if they could get to I-5.

We have 2-3 people in Reno who would love to fill those extra seats if available.

Cameron would you be able to get over to I-5 at all? If so I can start trying to reserve the church van so I know I will have room.  All I would ask is to help pay for gas. And if there is just 2-3 of you and you all wanted to split the cost a motel room I would be willing to do that too.

We might.  Right now, nothing is for sure.  However, we might be able to switch off in Sacramento.  That is an intersection of I-80 and I-5.

Hmmm, I like the sound of this.  We could help pay for gas too.  I'm hoping that there will be free lodging at the church, so I'm not sure about the hotel.  However, if we did end up going, that would be a possibility.

Are you going down on the 28th or the 29th?  The church is reserved for the 29th too...

Thanks!
Cameron

If they get that high-speed train from LA Union Station to SF Union Station finished 29 years early, that would be an option :)

In all honesty, you might see what Amtrak or Metro systems can do to get you there (ie, $47 at Amtrak will get you from Stockton to the city of the tournament, or $75 will get you there from Reno, NV).  It would be more expensive than a rideshare, but it would get you across California for less than a plane trip.  Just wanted to mention it in case someone hadn't considered it....

Thanks so much.  Never thought about that...

Where did you find the $75 from Reno?

Trains are fun!  I've taken the Amtrak up and down the Central Valley.  You can make a party of it!

Dude, NATS IS IN CALIFORNIA!!!  How can I not want to make sure this place is Utopia?   ;)

Where did you find the $75 from Reno?

Amtrak has a trip from RNO to OXN for $75 on July 28th.  I guess that's actually one city over from the tourney (I told it NP as the end point, but the train doesn't run there), but Metro should have a bus that runs down the 101, or maybe you could be shuttled over (perhaps the hotel would pick you up?)... I'll look into it once hotel info is released.

I 2nd the nomination of sk. =D

The train suggestion is great, but I would rather carpool obviously.  NWJosh, lets talk details.  I don't know for sure if I/we can go, but I/we really want to and I/we need ideas for transportation.  Right now, you are our only hope for driving. ;)

Ok here is what I'm going to do. I will get everything I need done for me to take the church van so that way if you guys go I have it ready and if at any time you tell me you aren't going I will simply take my truck instead.  Easy enough.  I plan on doing a full day drive on Wednesday July 29th.  My wife and I go from here (Salem) to Disneyland in one day. I simply leave at 3 am and just go go go.  As for coming back I will be trying to drive the entire way straight back but I will probably stop somewhere in Northern California for a good nights rest since I don't work Mondays.

As for lodging if there is free lodging at the church that is what I will be doing but if not we can all pack into a motel room. If we do 4 nights at $65 dollars a night and we have 4 people we each only have to cover one night.  I'm doing dollar menu for meals most of the time and then gas will depend on what the prices are at that point but if I get one or more of my youth to go I can pay for a part of the gas costs with the church money.  So that will be helpful.
I never want to grow up, hmmm maybe thats why I'm a youth pastor.
