Wow , I think it has been almost 10 years since I have posted on here .

Anyone still play in upstate or western New York. I’m curious when the last time New York State tournament was hosted .

God Bless and I’m hoping to get back into tournaments once this stuff is all over .

Hi Rob,

if you do not want to wait you can also get into regional tournaments playing real cards online:

I try to stay somewhat up to date but I have only gone to 2 tournaments (NY state and nats) in like the past 10 years. There really isn't anyone to play with up here.

Where are you located? I'm near Batavia, NY.

I am in the Rochester area. I believe last tournament I played is when I hosted NY states in 2012.

I am considering hosting New York states this year in May if we can gather enough interest.
I would offer at least the five open categories and possibly sealed or booster if I can get my hands on enough packs by then . Cost would be around 20 a person to help cover cost of holding the tournament.

Anyone interested please let me know what categories you would be interested in. This is just a sample schedule and would shuffle it around to accommodate interest and needs of attendees.

Day 1
5:30pm Type 2-2 player Deck Check
6pm Round 1
7:15 Round 2
8:30 Round 3 if needed

9:00pm Sealed Deck or Booster Possibly?

Day 2

8:30 am Deck Check T1-2 Player
9am Round 1
10am Round 2
11am Round 3

12pm Lunch Break - may provide pizza -

12:30 Deck Check T-1 Multiplayer
1:00pm Round 1
2:15pm Round 2

3:30 Type 1 Teams
4pm Round 1
5pm Round 2 if needed

Type 2-Multi
6:30 Round 1

Hi This John from MA.

I would be willing to come out and visit you guys when all the details come together.  CT and MA and NJ plus long Island all have Redemption play groups as well as PA.

You may get a caravan of players if you plan it early enough.

  Thanks

Hey John,

Thanks. It has been a long time! Hopefully restrictions in New York relax enough by then. I guess we chat more when I gets closer. I had considered driving out to one of your district or higher events but New Yorker can not really go anywhere at the moment.

Maybe you should also announce it at Discord (if not yet done) since lots of community people hanging around there (seems also more often).

I'd be interested in playing and if I came I'd bring one other person who would play also.

If I am able to host, is here a weekend in May that works best for everyone?

Also I would likely put less popular events on Friday and main events on Saturday depending on interest. What events are people hoping to play the most?

I will need to make purchases to host sealed events , would you be interested in Loc Only Booster Draft or Sealed Deck? Or just open events ?

Coolguy I have been inactive since 2012 and just returned to Tourney play now that my kids are able to play. We are up by Rochester NY. I noticed your region is east central so that may be a long drive you. Either way if you do decide to come , you are welcome to. ( Hosted: 2009 KY state, 2012 NY state , as well as few districts and many local events in three of my prior residence. ) (RNRS 2010 2nd place in Sealed Deck)

I am still looking to gauge what events people are interested. I will likely have sealed catertogories on Friday along with one of the T2 categories.  The other five events will run one after the other on Saturday.

I am a part of John M’s CT playgroup. There are a total of 6-7 consistent players, and we would potentially make the 5 hour drive. Most of us would be interested in a booster draft category, along with the standard type 1-2 player and multiplayer. There are 3 that play type 2, and we would also entertain teams. Hope this info helps!

Hi! Yes that is great information! I could definitely put booster on Saturday if that helped. Maybe run a type 2 category at the same time if some would rather play that.

For booster would you rather the LoC only at 45 dollar or a standard booster with 6-7 packs at 20 or 25 dollars?

Potential Dates are
May 7,8
May 14,15 (near daughters birthday so unlikely)
May 22 sat, 23 Sunday afternoon.

I would lean more towards a standard booster. Our playgroup definitely received a larger share than most of LOC cards when the set came out. Since a States Tournament requires a minimum of 5 categories offered (and with my experience it is good to give people options as to avoid stagnant time for players), I came up with a template schedule that could be a viable option. By no means should you feel the pressure to use this exact schedule, it’s just a nice visual:

Friday (Day 1):
5:30pm - Booster Draft (2 Player or Multi) OR Sealed Deck

Saturday (Day 2):
8:00am - Deck Check
9:00am - Type 1-2 Player OR Type 2-2 Player
12:00pm - Lunch Break
(If more than 8 players, Type 1-2 Player requires 4 rounds)
1:00pm - Type 1-Multi OR Teams

One category on Friday evening as it will be later in the day, and the nature of Booster takes a while when needing to draft cards and make decks. The multiple options for each time frame gives all players a better chance in playing a category they would like to play as opposed to having dead time, for example, for players who do not play/have Type 2 decks. Providing 3 categories of play for all players is enough to keep everyone playing while also not overwhelming a schedule that might go over time anyway. Let me know what you think!

I was hoping to not pair anything with t1-2 player but see value in doing so. I was thinking of pushing out event until June 4 and 5 so that people could tent my backyard.

Only other thing I may change is adding t2 - multi after 4pm or after dinner on Saturday.

Hey Rob, I'm still around (Al Bauer) and would love to drive over to Rochester !   The Booster draft should be LOC only, since it also includes a LOC Promo card.   I would rather be drafting the new cards!  See you soon

Hey Al!

It has been a long time! We have missed you and are excited to see you! I will see what we can do about booster Drafting. Thanks for the input. Do you have other preferences for events , likely going with Chaz’s suggested pairing unless there is a push for other pairings. Leaning towards June 4 and 5.

I could be wrong here, but I don't believe a LoC Only draft qualifies for getting the LoC promos. I believe you have to run the LoC Only Constructed category in place of T1-2P. Still fun to draft the new cards if you're into that, but I wouldn't count on getting any additional promos for it.

My kids are going to be playing soccer on Saturdays in May and the beginning of June.

Does June 18-19 work for NY State Tourney?

Looking for input from all that plan to attend this event.

Thanks.
