Lineage of Christ Tournament Categories (Booster & Constructed)

With the release of the 2020 Tournament Host Application today and the soon (tm) to be available Lineage of Christ (LoC) set it's time to talk about LoC Only categories for tournament play!

Lineage of Christ Booster Draft - this category uses 6 LoC "Super Packs" that contain 10 LoC cards each. Players can bring non-LoC meek Lost Souls. Otherwise it's played just like classic booster draft. Hosts can choose between the 2-Player and Multi-Player formats.

Lineage of Christ Constructed - this category follows Type 1 deck building and tournament rules except that only cards from LoC are allowed. That includes the Dominants and Lost Souls. This is only played as a 2-Player category.

Q - Why play an LoC Only category?

A1 - It's a fun, different, fresh format and a great way to experience the new cards!

A2 - You get an special LoC participation promo (in addition to the normal tournament participation promo) for playing in a LoC only category at tournaments!

Check out these 6 awesome promo options below!

I like this idea...might be worth expanding in the future, have something like a ‘block constructed’ using PoC, LoC and whatever the third set is.

How strict is LoC-only going to be in regard to meek souls? I know there's a common one, but will you be locked out of the game mode until you find seven of them or will subbing in some starter deck souls be allowed?
ANB is good. Change my mind.

I would think that having 6 total LSs in LoC will make this a non-issue.  Two of them are rare but the others are common.  Playing one LoC only Booster event should yield enough of the common meek LS and/or be able to trade for them.  I'd also think that the meek LSs could be easily obtained from 3Lions or YourTurn.

That said, it might be a good idea to allow non-LoC meek LSs for April tournaments only.  Give people time to be able to build their LoC collection.
May you prosper greatly!

I think forcing LOC to be exclusively LOC meek lost souls is a bit much. I know that the goal is to have cards that are all the same size, but I really dont' think that goal is truly a wise one at the expense of the player base for a one season tournament category.

A remedy could be insert 7 meek LOC souls into a super box, which would also be able to supplement loc only draft. ( I thought it only fair to have a positive idea as well)

LoC only booster is like any booster draft in the sense that you bring you bring 7 meek Lost Souls from any set. The primary difference with LoC draft is that you're only drafting LoC cards.

LoC constructed requires that you only play cards from LoC. Cards from other sets, including meek Lost Souls, are not allowed. The LoC set gives players 7 special ability Lost Souls to choose from (counting the 2 LRs) and 1 common meek Lost Soul (plus another promo meek LS).

Will that make it hard to get enough meek Lost Souls? Maybe at first. However the only defense that wants a full compliment of meek Lost Souls is the kings of Judah. Every other defense will be able to take advantage of some SA souls. You may not even want to use meek Lost Souls in some defenses.

I don't think very many people are going to have all the cards they want for their LoC Con deck come April 1. But given a little time, a few LoC boosters and some trading I also don't think it's unrealistic to have every card you want for your deck a month or two after the set release.

(plus another promo meek LS).
Was this spoiled prior to now?

And can you use the promo in your deck without having come with it?  I thought it used to be a rule that the deck you check cannot include the promos you receive or am I imagining that?

I had completely forgot about the legacy rare LSs so with those it is definitely way easier than I thought to get 7 LSs for Type 1-2player LoC only.
May you prosper greatly!

Sorry for the double post but had a separate question.

Will deck sleeves be required for LoC only since all the cards will be the same size?
May you prosper greatly!

It is an "official rule" now.  The rule came into play for the reason you mentioned, but has been in place for so long now, I would say it is absolutely required regardless now

Yes! Not letting players use the new promo they receive is an outdated rule from a time when players didn't have access to the card information well in advance. We just made the change with the 2020 Host Guide release. Players can now use a promo the moment they receive it, even if it's brand new.

Does this mean that if a player gets the Nats promo on day 1 they can use it for the next day’s constructed event?  I haven’t read the host guide yet so I’m asking blindly.

Correct. Since Nats participation promos are typically given at the completion of the event you will be able to use the promo you receive from day 1 in your deck on day 2.

Players will be able to use the new state and regional promos at their state and regional tournament this year too!  8)

From the Host Guide - All decks must be sleeved for tournament play.
there is more, but this is the applicable part to the question...

Does LoC only Booster Draft count toward RNRS of the booster draft category? I am considering hosting NY States and think it would be cool to run that instead of a regular draft.

LoC booster does count towards regular booster RNRS.  LoC constructed counts within the Type 1 - 2 player category of RNRS.  I LOVE LoC booster, and highly recommend it plus those promos are still pretty rare around the community.

Awesome . Thanks for the clarification! I’m hoping to start traveling again for nationals . 2010 was my last and only one. Looking forward to meeting you in the future! Loc only events is such a cool idea.
