is there any info yet on free lodging?
-
I think we should all have dinner at Ruth's Criss one night. ::)
-
is there any info yet on free lodging?
We got some very inexpensive pricing at the Premier Inns. Four people could share a room for less than $13/night each.
The church facility is not equipped for people to stay overnight. So to offer a "near-free" option, we would need to ask for volunteers from within the church body who would be willing to open their homes to players. There's no guarantee how many volunteers that we would get nor how many players they could accommodate. I'm willing to try to pursue this avenue for people if you let me know that it is something that you need. There is a place on the registration form to indicate your need for this housing option (or you can email me at mjwolfe@redemptionsocal.com). When Nationals is near, we'd be able to confirm how many spots we could offer for this lodging option.
It would still be a good idea to have a reservation at the Premier Inns. If we can offer you someone's house to stay at, you can always cancel the hotel reservation.

I take it that tents are a bad idea...? ;D
-
What is Type-A? I'm not familiar with it.
-
Hey,
There are several things I need to figure out before I will know if I am able to make it to nationals this year, but if I am able to make it to nationals I will be interested in rideshare options and "near-free" lodging options. Should I register and make note that there's still a good chance I won't be able to attend, or is there some other way I should express interest in rideshare and "near-free" lodging without registering?

As far as tents go, some of the people who may volunteer to host may have room for tents in their back yards so that more people could be accomodated.
What is Type-A? I'm not familiar with it.
Type-A is the same as Type-1 2-player but is a separate event for younger players. You must be under 12 years old and have no lifetime RNRS points to enter Type-A.

If you aren't sure that you are attending but want to let me know that you would be interested in the rideshare or near-free lodging, then send me an email at mjwolfe@redemptionsocal.com indicating your details. If you decide later that you can make it, then just register at that point indicating on the form that you still want to rideshare or stay at someone's house. If you decide later that you can't make it, then email me again at that time to tell me that you won't rideshare or stay at someone's house after all.

Please I plan on just doing one dinner of nothing but the Cookie Dough Cheesecake from the Cheese Cake Factory. And in honor of my brother-en-law who is from LA I will have to go get In-n-out one time.
Dang I forget the main point of my post so here goes with the modification. The website looks great, I guess I better start planning a bit harder and talking with others so I know what I'm going to do at Nats. :) I get to go I'm so excited its my first NATS. My wife still thinks I'm a bit nutz
-
Josh, you came up for a great slogan: I'm nuts about Nats!
In-n-Out is a MUST for at least 2-3 meals! ;)
-
Scott that can be the name for team Northwest "NUTZ"

May I ask why T1 2-player is listed at 8 rounds? It has been 10 rounds during the last three years when I attended nationals and I believe it was that way before as well. And are there details available as to what Tins/Boosters will be used during Booster Draft?
Kirk
-
Booster Draft will use both Rock of Ages +Kings and Faith of Our Fathers +Patriarchs, the goal being to have 19 different tins to increase variety in decks.
We do not expect our nationals to be any bigger than last year's. It will likely be a little smaller turnout. Even with an event of equal size to last years, 8 rounds of 2-player will be more than sufficient to determine a winner. It allows us to end at dinner time, and leaves time for fellowship and other games in the evening if needed (teams, etc.).
-
Hey,
It has been 10 rounds during the last three years when I attended nationals and I believe it was that way before as well.
In 2004 T1-2P was 9 rounds, other than that it has been 10 rounds every year since 2001. In 2001-2004 the ten rounds were split up over two days with 4 rounds happening on Friday evening and the last 6 happening Saturday morning. In 2005 when nationals was expanded to 3 days, we started doing all ten rounds in one day.
It allows us to end at dinner time, and leaves time for fellowship and other games in the evening if needed (teams, etc.).
I plan on doing most of my Friday fellowshiping between the beginning of round one and the end of the final round.
Tschow,

<---- Begins to try and figure out what costs he can ask to be paid for his birthday :P
Could you please put the times by the events? I'm trying to organize the trip and am wondering if I can leave in the morning or come the night before (since I only llive 4 hours away).
-
Thanks for getting the Redemption Natz '09 website up so quickly. It looks great and is very helpful.
Godspeed,
Mike
-
Blessings.
Maybe I missed it, but is there a street address for the Nats09 venue? In this way, I can plug it into Mapquest?
Are the details below that I researched on the Internet accurate?
999 Rancho Conejo, Newbury Park, California 91320, United States
Phone: 805-262-5000
Fax: 805-262-5001
Thanks!
-
Yes, that is the correct address. Some map searches (ie, Google) may try to tell you that it's part of a different city, but it's the right place.
Only 129 days till Nats...
-

Will Booster Draft still contain RoA and FoOF plus a pack of cards from the new Thesaurus ex Preterito?
Second, what time will T2 2 player begin on Thursday?
Kirk
-
First, yes. In booster draft, you will get:
1. 1 tin out of the 19
2. the missing booster (either Patriarchs or Kings, depending on which tin you got)
3. a pack of TeP
I can't wait to see players trying to decide which of the following to draft:
foil #1
foil #2
Guardian
Wall
Destruction
Leviathan
King of Tyrus (warriors)
Furnace of God's Wrath (and you're drafting gold)
Such difficult decisions!
I'll check the time.
-
Wow, that will be ridiculous! I don't know how anyone will be able to decide!!!
Kirk
-
Isn't King of Tyrus ultra rare?
According to the cactus website only warriors rares and lower will be in the set. oh and fwiw I would pick the destruction, unless the new cards are super epic.
-
They are. ;)
-
So what silly name is being assigned to the two-tin plus Tyrannosaurus ex Pterodactyl draft? There was FooFter and RoAster before, but perhaps FroAsTeP is what it's gonna be now.
-
"Treasures from the Draft"
"Roa Treaures"
"Troaster draft"
Those are all pretty logical. ;D
-
So what silly name is being assigned to the two-tin plus Tyrannosaurus ex Pterodactyl draft?
Jurassic Draft
-
SuperDraft!
-
Instead of signing up to play Booster Draft we're now registering for the "Selective Service." ;)
-
Hot dang now I'm really excited for Booster draft, or toaster draft, or treasures from the draft, or whatever the heck we nick name it. :)
Do we have any idea of how many have preregistered for Nats? I'm just curious about who is going since its my first Nats and I want to meet other players.

Well, there's no reason to draft Guardian in booster draft...Unless the new set has another card just like Son of God?!?!?!
-
Has the new set been anounced then??? If so where?

Go to the www.cactusgamedesign.com (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com) and check it out. What is a foil card anyways??
-

Except for the whole "worth a lot" thing...

I thought purpose of booster draft was to build the best deck possible, not to pick cards that are worth a lot of money. Anyways, this new set will make the price of cards like Guardian of Your Souls to decrease.
-
To win, yes. To get a GoYS, no. I would take a GoYS any day.
-

I'll take GoYS in booster draft if we're playing with Women booster packs. Otherwise, I'll pass it.
-
ok, you send it along to me then.
Hot dang now I'm really excited for Booster draft, or toaster draft, or treasures from the draft, or whatever the heck we nick name it. :)
If it is toaster draft, I'll bring the butter.
-
All I know is they better give a lot of time for drafting OR a "drill sergeant" judge will have to be at each table to bark, "PASS!"
-
Did it get decided that the new packs will be passed for Booster? It sounded like it was going to work like the FooF/RoA cards (keep all) when you discussed it at the tournament...

Read this post by Bryon that was earlier in this thread.

I would have to say YES the new booster packs will be passed! :)
-
The new Thesaurus boxes will have to be passed! It's going to be one of the fun parts of the draft.....figuring out which ONE card to keep when there's all of those others you have to pass! It'll be sad...until you see what the guy next to you had to pass to you! So much fun. I can't wait for August.....
Mike
-
I'm fine with it (can't wait for someone to pass to me a Warriors KoT "because it doesn't have a gold border"), it just seemed like ya'll favored the other option.
Only 75 days to go...
-
Does anybody know if Redemption Cash can be redemmed at Nationals?
-
It's given out as the prize and Rob accepted it last year so I would assume that will be the case this year. I think it's a pretty safe bet but I'm far from being official.
-
I just registered!
-
Took you long enough to register Ben. I registered like the first week it was available. ;D
-

Well, we always knew you were better than me anyway.
-
YAY teams!
-
I may just be missing it, but what time are things starting Thursday evening?
-
Man, I am sooooo bummed that I cant go. Especially since I am having a pretty good year. :(
-
I am now officially registered for my first Nationals, and will be bringing my wife and -3 month old baby!
-
Sweet Ken! I look forward to meeting you in person.
Kirk
-
I will be coming to nationals for the first time ever this year as well!
-
I have registered!
-
I shalt be attending the "West" MN Nationals.
-
In teams, do players share sites? The website states about every card type except for sites...
Kirk
-
I registered, too! I attended Regionals last year and this will be my first Nationals. But I have a question. Are there any times set for the competitions yet? I am coming from out of town, and this will greatly help in the preparation for the trip.
-
I also need to know what time I will need to be at the first day of the tournament.
-

Last year...Teams shared the LoB, and sites are in the LoB. Therefore, they shared sites.
This year...Teams share the LoB, and sites are in the LoB. So I would assume it is the same :)
-
I also need to know what time I will need to be at the first day of the tournament.
The 2007 Nats had deck check in at 8am with gameplay beginning at 9am (http://www.covenantgames.com/tourneyarchive/2007Nationals.htm). I think 2008 Nats had the same times. Since Bryon thinks the games will be done by dinner, and that there will be 8 rounds of T1 2P (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=14841.msg232241#msg232241), it seems like the same time frame will be in place.
-
Okay.... yay for starting driving at like 5:30. :-\
-
I'll probably walk over about 7:45. :D
-
does anyone know what times the events are scheduled to end, especially on Sat?
-
Okay.... yay for starting driving at like 5:30. :-\
Might want to PM Michael Wolfe to confirm the time. I meant to ask him on Saturday, but I was too busy collecting Harvest Time Promos. ;)
does anyone know what times the events are scheduled to end, especially on Sat?
They usually have Saturday end by 4:00 or so. 5 rounds of Booster Draft will easily end before then. Also, I think their Saturday night service begins at 6:00, so the Sanctuary would probably need to be cleared out so they can set up for service.
-
Might want to PM Michael Wolfe to confirm the time. I meant to ask him on Saturday, but I was too busy collecting Harvest Time Promos. ;)
:rollin: That's legitimately funny. How many people played type II, like 4? ;)
-
Lets see who played... Mr. Kramer played, Mr. Kramer, and Mr. Kramer all played! I wonder who won? :dunno:
-
I heard Kurt one an event. ;D
-
Even though he wasnt there....
-
Kramer versus Kramer? I thought that was a movie...an old movie. :D
-

That's more than at the NV State..... We couldn't even play T2 Multi..... :P
Another question, what time do you need to be there in the morning each day? Another similar question, how early will it be unlocked? =D
-
At the Nationals ive been to check in starts at around 8:30 and games start any where between 9 and 9:30. Have the times been officialy posted yet?
-
Nothing official yet, but those times seem reasonable guesses.
Lets see who played... Mr. Kramer played, Mr. Kramer, and Mr. Kramer all played! I wonder who won? :dunno:
To be fair, I did beat 10 people to pull off another victory in Booster Draft (which again included me drafting Japtheh, Strong Angel, and Balaam's Disobedience, though Eric managed to draft a Captain and the Protection of Angels I wanted for my musicians)...
Kramer versus Kramer? I thought that was a movie...an old movie. :D
I frequently reference that movie when trying to explain which spelling we use. :D
-
Well you need get a very mean draft ::)
Hey SK Z. Temple :P
-
:'( It's almost a good thing I couldn't recur 'em, though... I decked out in only 12 turns in multi due to Hur abuse :)
And at least you didn't mention my epic fail...
-
Okay.... yay for starting driving at like 5:30. :-\
Only 5:30? I would be on the road around 1.5 hours by then :P.
-
The website now contains a detailed event schedule with timeframes for the different events. Check it out.
Mike

Hey,
Mike,
You've got Type 2 - 2 Player listed twice in the time frame schedule. Just thought you should know.

Mike,

Fixed. Thanks.
-
Alright, sounds good. So teams is the only extra event, besides iron man?
-
IF Mike and Bryon don't need my help (they probably will), and...
IF there is time, and...
IF players are interested,
I'll run a Type NW teams event. Of course, if I'm not available to run it maybe TJ, Josh or Ben can be coaxed into running it. :)
-
Man I wish I could go. The teams sounds fun and so does the Iron Man one
-
I'd so play NW on Saturday night. :)
-
I'd so play NW on Saturday night. :)
You mean Friday night :P
-
I would think about doing NW on Fri. Never done it before, but it sounds fun. :)
-
Whats NW?
-
No, cause isn't teams on Friday night?
-
No, cause isn't teams on Friday night?
Its Thursday... And no one is going to be there on Saturday....
-
Yeah, and the church'll be in use Saturday night, so Friday would be best. I'm down for Friday.
Whats NW?
So I guess the first question is, "What is Type NW?" It is both a deck-building and category version we started here in the NW. Here are the details:
Type NW deck-building
- Deck size is always 70 cards
- No dominants are allowed
- Type 1 deck-building rules apply for everything else
Type NW gameplay
- Games are allotted one hour; when one hour is reached, complete the current full turn
- Name-on-name bonus and Experience credit are both used
-
If it does become official that NW will be played Friday night, I will defendantly change one of my decks to fit the type :).
-
Btw can some one bring a shuffleboard we need to play Type T ;)
-
Given the fact that neither the Dodgers or Angels are playing at home the nights of the National Tourney I could assist or run the NW event on Friday night if we are allowed to stay and play at the church. Scott knows that event better then I do since he kind of created it, but I'm sure I could do it. I may even put some things together for prizes. 1st place = 0/2 Buckler 2nd place = 0/2 Buckler 3rd place = 0/2 Buckler. Heck maybe I'll get those cards autographed by Rob or someone but given the awesomeness of the buckler I may just leave things as they are for prizes. ;D
-
I already copyrighted that idea 2 years ago (giving out Buckler for winning tournaments). Every tournament I host, the winners get a special Buckler promo signed by me! Of course it will be clearly worth a ton one day... ::)
But all joking aside, I seriously do hand those out at tournaments. Just ask the winners of EC Regionals!

Kirk,
I don't know if I should laugh or be amazed. Well maybe I'll just have to have you sign one, I can sign one and then we can find some random person to sign the other one for prizes.
-
Lol. Just get all of the dif forms of buckler and best = 1st, etc.
-
It is now official. I have registered. :)

Yay! Now I get to beat you *coughimeanplayyoucough*

*coughithinkyoumeantogetthrashedbyyoucough*

Hey guys I dont think you can go to nats as it seems you have a case of the swine flu!
-
It intimidates my opponents. ::)
-
Wait, so if I use the Piggy Lost Soul my opponent will forfeit?
-
Isildur's signature makes so much more sense now...
-
Isildur's signature makes so much more sense now...
Yeah that was the point I was trying to make the whole time...
-
Well, if everyone else is using piggies then I'll have to switch over to donkeys. :P
Of course, I have this recurring nightmare that everyone in booster draft is going to draw pictures of demons on their lost souls. :D
-
Why doesn't someone bring a laptop with a webcam & internet connection, open up a www.justin.tv (http://www.justin.tv) , www.ubroadcast.com (http://www.ubroadcast.com) or a www.ustream.com (http://www.ustream.com) account and broadcast the event live for us in other states who'd like to watch via the web?
-
We considered doing that via a camera hookup, but are afraid we'd take down the entire WiFi due to bandwidth needs. The church offices are open, so it'd be a bad idea to kill their web access. Also, we'd have to deal with getting everyone's ok to put their pics up, which would be time consuming.
Many photos are being taken, I'll try to get a few approvals to put some up later today.

Can't you post a disclaimer stating that the event would of been broadcasting and that spectators, players, fans, etc would be watching and/or playing at their disclosure?
Any which way, in the future definitely consider that in the future because I'm sure there are tons of players willing to watch it.
