THE MW Regionals report (from my PoV at least)

I don't know what I enjoyed more about this tournament: the great conversations with great people, the life lessons taught to my son, or tournament play.

T2 2P or Sealed...that is the question?  I struggled on what to play in this tournament.  On the one hand, Sealed involves a lot of luck, but I had already won a Regionals in T2 2P.  Ultimately, I went with T2 2P...afterall, I enjoy the practice of T2 and the category was likely placed on Friday night at my request.  My son, Jason, played sealed.
Round 1:  Kayleb from Mark's playgroup: He joined late and was using my deck.  I won 7-1
I knew his deck inside and out (because I built it and played with it many times), but I didn't expect him to nail my SoG so early in the game.  Ultimately, when I had the game in hand, I coached him on how to use the deck for his future games.
Round 2: Alex Olijar  I won 7-4 or 5
Alex and I have faced each other many times the last several years including the most recent NE Regionals.  We each changed our decks a little bit since last month.  It was a tough game in which Alex had complete control early.  The fateful turnaround was when I nailed his SoG with the site discard lost soul.  I gained momentum from that move along with the evaporation of my worry of the "big 2."
Round 3:  Matt (mjwaree5)  I won 7-2 or 3.
It was getting late (midnight), and I'm struggling remembering the details of this game.  We went back and forth early, but eventually my deck set up and he was locked out.

I won 1st in T2 2P by going undefeated.  The coward John Early avoided me by winning 1st in Sealed. (For the record: I don't really think John is a coward...I just expected to play him.)

Crustpope had a rough T2 because of his year hiatus and was thinking of heading home.  He was my only option to be a teams partner, but I was not committed to that category.  However, the pairings were uneven and who wants a bye at 3 AM?  I left the decision up to Crustpope, and he was generous to all by agreeing to play.  I prepped the decks in 5 minutes while he glanced over my deck concept for TEAMS.  (For the record: it is not my category and I'm not a fan of it--or any multiplayer game for that matter.)
TEAMS 1:  crust. vs. uthminister and galadgawyn:   timeout tie: 2-2 or 3-3   (Oh, and this round started at 1 AM)
This game was four great friends having a good time.  We had fun harassing each other, but ultimately Defense and time won the day.
TEAMS 2:  crust. vs. two young kids who I didn't learn their names (bad I know: but it was 2:30ish AM)
This game wasn't close and the two experienced players won the day 5-1.  We thought about holding out to draw and play FA their only Lost Soul from a SoG rescue for differential but a Guardian nixed that idea.
TEAMS 3: crust. vs. fyero and mjwaree5   Tie: 3-3
We were not prepared for their Defense once it was set up.  We couldn't get our SoG/NJ soon enough to win.  More time and they would have won the game.  The standout play was our decision to leave Altar of Ahaz activated despite having Son of God.  If we had let Phineas rescue to knock out Altar, then that would have gave them the opportunity to play their "big 2" of which we KNEW they had half.  Settling for a tie (Crustpope's suggestion) turned out to be the correct decision because after the game fyero revealed that he had the "big 2."

Ultimately, the last minute decision to play TEAMS proved to be a good idea because "crust." placed 2nd.

4:30 AM to 6:30 AM was a time of putting together decks and conversation with 3 great friends.
Conversation topic that stood out:  the absurdity of a Hall of Fame and the biases of those on the committee.   :P
I will continue my silent boycott and may try to take it down from the inside!  muwahahahahaha   ;)

Uthminister graciously backed up the start time on Saturday so the players who played TEAMS could have a 2 1/2 hour nap (this would prove fateful in one of my games).

The category I love and drove to play started Saturday:  T1 2P!!!!!!!  (as always I will be vague to not reveal major deck strategies)

Round 1: I was matched against the tourney host: Uthminister!  He wasn't as excited to see me because according to him, tough Rd. 1 match ups are typical and he felt I would be a tough matchup (as opposed to the opinions of certain HoF member biases and yes I am strictly looking at you ProfUnderwood and crustpope... :P -->for everyone else: you have to know me in person to get my sense of humor and the way I think).  This game was over quick because of a spectacular draw on my part.  In fact, it was over so quick that we played a second game.
Result:  W 5-1

Round 2:   Alex (alpal on boards)
Alex received a great first round hero and my Defense was a bit shy early in the game.  I used some Doms to help keep him at bay, and we went back and forth.  Neither defense could really stop the other's offense.  Ultimately, I received my "big 2" before he did which became the difference maker.
Result: W 5-3

Round 3:  Nic (fyero on boards)
I really don't want to talk about this game (not one of my prouder moments).  This game had contained a huge mistake made by each player which were direct results of major lack of sleep.  Despite Nic's mistake, he still about won except that my last card drawn was a timely SoG.  This game caused deep reflection for me as a player, person, and Christian.  Some agreed with what I did, some disagreed, and others understood because they might have likely done the same thing.  It highlighted that judges view the game of Redemption differently.  Ultimately, Nic took the loss graciously, and I have the utmost respect for him.  I would rather forget about this game as much as he would... this game would ultimately decide 1st and 2nd place.
Result: W 5-4

Round 4:  Alex Olijar (can't remember his board name though.  ;) )
Alex and I knew this match up was inevitable.  He had changed his style since NE Regionals, and it was benefiting him greatly.  I about switched decks because I knew that there was a strong possibility that he teched against my deck (or at least its idea in general).  I decided to stay with what was working and it proved to be the right idea.  I got a great early draw and never looked back.  Unfortunately for Alex, it was the worse draw he had seen that day.  A lack of drawn lost souls gave him a slight chance, but his Guardian never showed and the lost souls did.
Result:  W 5-0

Round 5:  Matt (mjwaree)
This was the 2nd time Matt and I faced each other in the final round at Regionals.  I joked with him that I hoped the result would be the same.  My draw was mediocre, but it was enough to keep him at bay.  Ultimately, my deck began setting up quickly and I won the game.
Result: W 5-1

I placed 1st at NE Regionals.  Nic beat Alex to place 2nd, and Alex got leapfrogged by a couple of timeouts (ironic because he used to cause timeouts).

My son took a different route in the category, but I'm proud of him for overcoming a tough first game and completing the tournament in good spirits.  An additional note:  he paid his own entry fee to keep Goliath instead of his dad getting it.   :'(  :P

Uthminister is a great host and friend.  He is accommodating, gracious, and generous.  In fact, his generosity has renewed interest in Redemption within my 6 year old.  Also, he set it up that a player could participate in 4 categories (if they were willing to forfeit sleep).  Personally, I want to thank Travis for being awesome (especially in the way he handled my oldest son on Friday night).

With that said, I almost did not enter T1 Multiplayer because I began to value sleep and was thinking of my families safety for the drive home (as you can tell God graciously protected us).  Originally, I was promised 2 rounds which would put us leaving around 6 PM.  They could use the extra player, my wife was still at the mall, and it was "only" 2 rounds letting me out "early."  Once I committed, it didn't turn out that way.  After 2 rounds, there was no clear winner....so we needed a third round.

Round 1:  Ron Sias, Galadgawyn, and Drew Willis.
This was a tough opening round and yet a pretty fun game.  I am foggy on the details because I was extremely tired.  Ultimately, I won the table with galagawyn getting second.   5-4-3 (Ron)-2 (Drew-->who received 2 falling aways played against him)

Round 2:  ProfUnderwood, Galadgawyn, and Brian (not on boards)
This table featured all the top finishers from the first game.  Mark had crushed his first table in like 10 minutes, but I will not bore you with why.  He is known for his diplomacy to help him win, so I set out to counteract it.  We both have strong personalities with equally strong opinions.  We went at each other like 2 lawyers trying to win over a juror.  Through the back and forth, galadgawyn continued to gain momentum.  However, an untimely Mayhem to stop one player shuffled my SoG never to be seen again.  I could have played it without NJ to practically secure 2nd, but I play to win not settle for 2nd.  It turned out to be my only mistake of the category.  I took third in this game, but interestingly galadgawyn took first and Mark took second...but they tied in every way.  So a third round was necessary.
Final Score:  5-4 (Prof U)-3 (me)-2 (Brian)

Odd Interlude:  We needed a clear winner which required a 3rd round.  I was tired and didn't expect a third round.  My wife was back, the car was packed, and I had a long trip ahead of me.  I was ready to forfeit for the first time in my life (it just isn't me and I wasn't brought up that way).  However, family safety falls behind love of God in priorities in my life.  Unfortunately, somebody else forfeited before I announced my decision.  I was stuck and everyone pressured that I stayed.  The lure of a potential first place finish, the "never say die" attitude, and my wife giving her blessing got me to stay.

Round 3:  Oddly, the forfeiture created the EXACT SAME table setup as Round 2 except some seat swapping.
I received a great opening draw which received a lot of early wrath (plus leftover mental games from Round 2).  ProfUnderwood and I butted heads again, but we had to consider galadgawyn as well.  ANYBODY at that table could have won it all..well...except Brian: but he still could place.  It was another back and forth game with much manuevering.  Galadgawyn would prevail again with Mark finishing 2nd.  The score was pretty much identical to the last game.

I placed 3rd in T1 Multi:  I still have no love for the category.  However, we were still friends after the game and hugged goodbye as I left to my "new" region.  Honestly, I am proud of myself because I didn't lose my temper.  Any gruffness was likely due to fatigue and not the frustrations of multi-player.  I still have room to improve, but I think I have come a long way.  God is not done working on me yet.  One day, I hope to have the graciousness of Nic (fyero), mercy and generosity of Travis (Uthminister), perseverance of Mark (Prof Underwood), and kindness of Roy (reyzen) and John (Faithraider).  As I told my wife heading home:  to me, Redemption is more than just a game.  If it was just a game, then I am slightly crazy for the distance I travel to play cards.

Thanks for another great tournament.   :)

I think someone has a smart son.

And rather than create a separate thread for my own tourney report, I think I'll just add on to this one.   :)

Perspective of a father:
Iron Man: Alecia (7yrs old, and the youngest person playing) was in this with the other youngsters at the tournament.  I admit that I was worried after reading on the forum here about how Jonathan Greeson's son had done at a previous tournament, and how his dad had been training him.  Then I found out that Ron Sias' daughter was also playing, and I wondered how my kid could compete with these prodigies of legends.  However, she ended up being just fine as she went on to win against both of these opponents as well as win a couple other challenge matches to end up in 2nd place.

T1-2p: I don't really know how her games went, but I know that she won 1, and tied 1, and ended up finishing in 17th place.  The fact that she ended up higher than at least 5 other people was pretty cool, and she kept a great attitude as far as I could tell.

T1-mp: She had a great attitude in her first game despite never getting a LS.  I don't know about the second game (other than that she lost again).  But in the 3rd game, she was VERY excited to win a close one over Ron Sias and Drew Wills (which I think ended up putting her in 4th place for the event).

I was glad to bring my largest traveling group ever (8 people) up to a tournament run by one of my favorite hosts, Travis (uthminister).  We were a bit disappointed when we showed up that Sealed and TEAMS couldn't switch times, meaning that most of us would have to just wait around for a few hours, and that we'd have to stay up SUPER late playing TEAMS.  However, it all worked out for the best.

T2-2p:  Kayleb was my only guy who played in this, using a borrowed deck to make the field even.  I have no idea how he ended up doing.

Sealed:  Ian was my only guy who played in this, and he actually did really well.  He ended up finishing in 2nd place to John (RDT), and could have won the whole thing except that he had to restart the last round with John getting a free LS due to him getting a couple LSs in his deck mixed into his previous opponent's deck.  It was a good lesson learned, and he was happy to place.

TEAMS:  John (RDT) and I decided to TEAM up as we've played a lot online, but never met in person.  We had a pretty extreme idea, that was either going to be totally awesome, or crash & burn.  We had hashed out the basic decklist on Thur, and built them quickly Fri night to play starting around midnight.
Round 1: vs. Brian & Kayleb, it was a rough start as I had a terrible draw (that got worse after an early Mayhem), and we both made mistakes.  In addition, our coded communication was pretty worthless, since neither one of us seemed to be able to figure anything out until it was so obvious that the other team did too.  Thankfully we were still able to get to 5 first and get the win.
Round 2: vs. Nick & Matt, it was a really tough game as John had a terrible draw, and as we both got clobbered due to some sneaky usage of a little used card by Nick.  It was very unexpected and very painful, and we were blessed to be able to be ahead when time ran out.
Round 3: vs. (2 guys who I forgot to catch their names), this time I had a terrific draw, and we were able to comeback after an initial setback that cost us a lot on offense.  In addition John and I finally got to the place where we could speak in code and actually understand each other.  It was a really fun game and we were able to get to 5 first again, which gave us the highest score overall, and 1st place in the event.

By the time John and I had our post tourney strategy session and shared ideas for changes to our decks, and by the time I had switched out cards I needed to have in my T1-2p deck for later in the morning, and by the time I had finished talking with some great friends, it was 7:30am and time for getting a bit of sleep.

T1-2p:  I actually woke up pretty refreshed and ready to go at 10am.  I checked in 2 decks.  The first was a turtle that I had hoped would be able to win a Regional (which I think would be the highest finish ever for a turtle deck).  The second was a faster deck, but not one that I enjoy playing as much.
Round 1: vs. Jonathan Pequinot.  We've been good friends and rivals for years and our games always seem to be close.  This was no exception, as he also chose to play a turtle deck.  The game was slow, and the defenses were stout.  The difference ended up being that he drew SoG/NJ and I only drew SoG.  Timeout loss (2-1)
Round 2: vs. (I can't remember) I decided to give the turtle one more round.  This time I was able to shut down my opponent completely, but I ran out of time before I could finish walking in for the win.  Another 15 mins and this would've been a win.  Timeout win (4-0)
Round 3: vs. Stephen Schyer.  I felt like I was getting faster, and decided to give the turtle one more round.  The last time I played Stephen, he demolished me with a Genesis deck in about 3 turns.  This time was quite different as I was able to hold him off the whole game.  Unfortunately, I was again out of time before I could get to 5, and ended up just barely being ahead.  Timeout win (2-1)
Round 4: vs. Drew Wills. I figured out that I could place as long as I won my last 2 rounds, so I decided to give the turtle one more round.  This game was similar to round 2 except that my opponent got their SoG/NJ.  Timeout win (4-2)
Round 5: vs. Alex (something).  I was currently in 7th place, and everything had to fall right for me to place at all.  Jonathan Greeson (Soul Seeker) had to win his last round to be undefeated for me to pass up the loser of the top table.  The 2nd table had to have a clear winner and not timeout for me to pass up the loser of that game.  The 3rd table needed to have the lower ranked player win small for me to pass up both of them.  And most importantly, I had to actually win a game (which I hadn't done yet).  Amazingly all of those things happened, and I was able to jump into 3rd place.
Overall, I think the time limits on rounds really makes it impossible for a turtle deck to be able to finish games consistently, and that makes winning tournaments unlikely.  I think I'll have to change things up for the next tournament.

T2-mp:  Kayleb was my only guy who played in this (using a borrowed deck).  The other players were Ron Sias (former nats champion in the event), John Early (current nats champion in the event), and Allen Collins (former regional champion in the event).  Amazingly Kayleb didn't come in last and walked away with 3rd place.  Full Win (5-2)

Booster:  Ian, Isaiah, Kayleb, and Wyatt were all playing in this event, but some other people got some absolutely amazing decks, and none of them ended up in the top 3.

T1-2p:  Alecia, Brian, Drew, and I were all playing in this event, and it had some REALLY close games....
Round 1: I was blessed with a matchup against 2 novice players and Brian as well as a great draw.  The game was over very quickly.  1st at table (5-1-0-0)
Round 2: Jonathan Greeson (who had won his table) started early with the diplomacy to get the table to gang up on me.  It obviously worked because my 1st rescue attempt was blocked with a King of Tyrus (whatever happened to giving away the first LS), and my 2nd rescue attempt was defeated by a Christian Martyr (still no LS here people).  Naturally after everyone focused on stopping me, they ignored Jonathan Pequinot to their own demise and he won the game.  2nd at table (4-5-3-2)
Unfortunately that put he and I in a tie for 1st place with both having one win and one 2nd place finish with 4 LSs.  And my feeling is always to play an extra round (after all we go to tournaments to play, right?).  Since the Booster that was going simultaneously also had another round left, Travis was generous to give us another round.  And Jonathan Greeson was generous to play the extra round despite great tiredness and a long drive coming.
Round 3: Greeson's diplomacy again prevailed as I had ALL 3 of my opponent's play Falling Away on me.  This was in spite of the fact that all 3 of my opponents had more LSs rescued than I did (except for by the time of the last FA).  As a result, the outcome of the game was pretty much the same.  Pequinot walked away with the win.  2nd at table (4-5-3-1)
Overall Jonathan Pequinot won the day, I came in 2nd, and Greeson had enough LSs to pull out 3rd.  I really enjoyed the event as always (except for at Nats), and I feel like I really got to know some old friends even better :)

He borrowed my deck, and I'm pretty sure he finished 4th with the deck and narrowly missed 3rd.  He told me that he liked the deck and enjoyed playing it.

Uthminister is a great host and friend.  He is accommodating, gracious, and generous.  Personally, I want to thank Travis for being awesome (especially in the way he handled my oldest son on Friday night).
I want to echo these sentiments.  Travis was also gracious in the way he handled an issue with my daughter at one point, and he was EXTREMELY generous with trades (as he always is) with both myself and all the people in my playgroup.  He is an inspiration to me with his catchphrase of "they're only cardboard".  The tournament was a big success, and all the people with me had a wonderful time.  This is largely due to the great job hosting that Travis consistently does.  Thanks again Travis!

Round 1:  Ron Sias, Galadgawyn, and a young kid.
Just an FYI, that young kid is Drew Wills, and I suspect that someday he will be much better known than simply a rlk.  Watch out for him if you play him at Nats in the next year or 3.

I want to "third" this statement.  travis is a Fantastic host and friend.

My tournament was OK.  I got my doors blown off in t2-2player.  I was using an ANB reset deck with prophets and one lousy card kept screwing up my deck....and it wasnt nazareth.  Personally I cant think about this category without going into a rant filled diatribe about how it seems that the playtesting system is broken each year with over reactions to popular strategies....and other than the amount of caustic hate that ANB and prophets searching generates it isnt an overpoweringly dominant strategy and to have it nearly completely emasculated by one card is, IMHO is a completely ridiculous oversight.

My third round of that category i played a completely different deck and won 7-0 so I guess I should have played that deck all along.  MY BAD!

Teams was fun if for no other reason than it was late and people were goofy and slap happy.  Our decks were not that great and the herod defense really proved that (ouch!) but it was fun to play with everyone and see some new strategies that were in use.

Perspective of a father:
Iron Man: ...I admit that I was worried after reading on the forum here about how Jonathan Greeson's son had done at a previous tournament, and how his dad had been training him....

I didn't realize you added this.  To be fair to my son, I failed him as a trainer the week leading up to Midwest Regionals.  Both weeks leading up to each Regionals could not have been more opposite.
The week ahead of NE Regionals, I made and invested more time into training my son.
The week ahead of MW Regionals, my son had 3 baseball games (as his year wrapped up that Sat.), and I had a heavy load of schoolwork to finish so that I would be free to play that weekend.

Despite all of this, players said that my son played well (for being 8 yo).  Overall, he maintained a good attitude and placed 20 out of 22 in T1 2P. (I didn't realize they did placement in Ironman, so I have no clue how he did there).  True, he did better at NE Regionals, but it does highlight the difference practice can make.  I hope to continue to work with my son, so that he has a shot at being the youngest Redemption National Champion ever!!!!! (not that I'm pressuring him or anything ::)

I find it interesting how fathers (Mark, Ron, and I) desire, hope, and equip their children to do well, but it's up to the child to implement the knowledge given them.  Seems to me there are some spiritual parallels there.  ;)

Kinda late for this but Ill give my story...

T2 2P
Round 1
Matt Archibald (crustpope)
Neither of us made real mistakes in this game and we kinda held eachother off but I think I may have been able to score a 7th soul if I had another turn.
6-5 Time out win

Round 2
Ron Sias
I got a James and John very early and he wasnt able to stop it and they walked in for 4 freebies then an AotL and SoG and NJ and that was it.
7-1 win

Final Round
Jon Greeson (Soul Seeker)
This game started out really bad for me it was 4-0 really early and my defense never set up until very late. When it did set up it got me 3 or 4 blocks and I found myself tied 6-6 or atleast I thought... I played SoG without NJ and realized I only had 5 so I now had 6 and with no D left he walked in for the 7.
6-7 Loss

My differential was much higher than 3 place so I locked up 2cd.

TEAMS: Nic Marshall (Fyero) and I
We played 1 offense deck with all the Doms and an all defense deck.

Round 1
2 Kids that came with Profu (I cant remember there names)
My defense got setup extremely fast and Fyero got a decent draw and was able to get passed there D.
5-1 win

Round 2
John Early (RDT) and Mark Underwood (ProfU)
We got an early block with Mannaseh (who ProfU had no faith in  ;)) then they eventually got 1 we Nic struggled to get passed there D and we didn't get a soul.
3-2 Timeout Loss

Round 3
Jon Greeson (Soul Seeker) and Matt Archibald (Crustpope)
They got an early soul on me when I didn't have any characters then they got another I really dont remember how. Nic got 2 some how but had issues with there Defense. Then last turn they put up Alter of Ahaz (a very smart move) and settled for the tie. Which ended up deciding 3rd and 4th place.
3-3 timeout tie

We ended up placing 4th (I think)

after 4 hours of sleep T1 2P began

First round
Alex Sias
I got a pretty fantastic draw in this game and a very early TGT and walked through for a couple freebie souls and SoG and NJ it was over.
5-1 win

2cd Round
I cant remember who
I got another great draw in this game and yes another early TGT and this game was over before he got the chance to set up.
5-2 win

3rd Round
Alex Olijar
I was at the top table this game and it didn't go well. My draw was pretty lousy and he didn't draw any souls but I had drawn about 5. My deck wasn't built to hold off an opponent for a long time so my D did very little. He walked in took 4 then drew SoG.
0-5 Loss

4th Round
Travis (Uthminister)
My deck was back on track for this game with another spectacular draw and he had an awful draw with a lack of heros. But when he did have heros I got rid of em. I soon pulled through and won.
5-0 Win

5th Round
Jon Greeson (Soul Seeker)
I worked myself back to top table this time in 2cd. I played Jon in the last round at top table in T2 2P as well but it resulted the same way... Other than getting SoG and NJ first turn my draw was no better than mediocre. I couldn't stop him and could't attack him and it was over in a hurry.
2-5 Loss

I went from getting the chance of placing first to getting 7th lol.

Booster
I got one of the Better tins (for booster atleast) Caleb, Army,Men of Judah, etc. There was another red tin at the table though but I got a solid draft regardless.

First game
Alex Lewis (alpal) and Wyatt that was with Prof U
The mighty band was to much for them to hold off and I won
5-3-1

2cd Game
John Early (RDT) and Nic Marshall (Fyero)
This game was rough after I got four souls HHI was put up and my superband wasn't so super anymore and I couldn't get a fifth soul.
5-4-2

Final Round
A guy I cant remember who and Nic Marshall (Fyero)
Nic jumped up early with 4 but there where no souls to rescue for him. On my turn I came at him with King Amazing made him block with King Saul and I was hoping he didn't see my Abner on the other side of the table lol and he didn't so I got 4 but he walked in for his 5th.
5-4-4

Nic Marshall got 1st
John Early got 2cd
and I tied for 3rd

I find it interesting how fathers (Mark, Ron, and I) desire, hope, and equip their children to do well, but it's up to the child to implement the knowledge given them.  Seems to me there are some spiritual parallels there.  ;)
I also see that spiritual parallel, and it is actually one of the scariest things about being a father, I think.  I hope and pray that with great dads like you and Ron, that our kids will all "not easily depart" from the way they have been trained.

We got an early block with Mannaseh (who ProfU had no faith in  ;))
This is totally true.  since it was the black brigade version, I thought he was just going to let him die so that he could use recursion with King Amon, but then he went and really messed us up instead.  Sure taught me a lesson :)

Midwest Regionals Tournament Report.
Sealed:
I elected to play sealed for two reasons, one, my type 2 deck is a secret that I’m saving for Natz, and two, I didn’t want to waste a whole ton of brain power since I was going to probably be up til 4 or so playing TEAMS.

Round 1/ Deck Build. :
I honestly don’t remember any of my opponents… sorry guys.
I got deck H (Purple/White + Gold/Brown) needless to say I was pretty happy about that as I’m 90% sure that its far and beyond the better deck. I went with 3 Priests packs, and didn’t really get anything good, I put in the Phineas that I got, but he had no backup whatsoever. But the real steal was a little-known card ‘Fellowship’ which is a white brigade card that bands all heroes from the same testament into battle, “BOOYAH!” what a great card for the ‘H’ deck.
I cruised in my first game, winning 5-2.

Round 2
The only thing that I was super worried about in sealed was running into another ‘H’ deck since those almost always come down to draw – I got lucky as I again faced the ‘G’ deck, I rolled again, 5-1 or 5-2.

Round 3
This round I believe I faced Rebecca Collins, but it might have been the previous round – She was playing the ‘G’ deck as well, so I faced 3 in a row, this game was more memorable for what happened outside of it – Type A –Iron Man was going on at the same time, and right next to our table a Type A game between two of the younger competitors was going on, and we spent half of our game helping them play their cards, it was pretty cool.
I won, 5-3

Round 4
This round I faced Jon Pequinot. Again, another ‘G’ deck, what a string of crazy luck, this was a really intense game, as we got to 4-4 before Jon made a slight miscalculation of numbers that allowed me to play a negate on his self-capture to fill his raiders camp.
I won 5-4.

Round 5.
This was a very interesting round – I faced Ian, one of Mark Underwood’s group. He drew two souls to start, which I proceeded to take in the first two turns. He drew another one which I also took. He was playing an ‘H’ deck as well, first one I saw all night, when these decks face its usually a matter of who can get initiative, as neither has a whole ton of negates – I managed to block him for quite a while, probably 4-5 turns, before he started breaking though. I lost 5-3. However; after the game I asked to see his deck, because he went through about ¾ of it without drawing any souls after his first 3. After I went through his deck I discovered that he in fact didn’t have a full complement of souls… Ian handled the situation extremely well, and after we found his missing souls (In the deck of his previous opponent) we restarted with me having a one soul lead. I honestly don’t remember much about the second game besides the fact that I won 5-3.
Result – 5-0 1st place.

TEAMS:

I paired up with Mark ‘The Prof’ Underwood, we had been discussing devious ideas for about a week before the tournament, and we implemented them with great success at this tournament.

Round 1: Brian & Kayleb, This was a pretty interesting game, as I dropped an early Mayhem that messed Mark up a little bit, but our deck idea worked like a charm and we won 5-2.

Round 2: Nick & Matt, Man, what a game, Mark and I really need to work on our code words as Nic pretty much got them all when we did... This time our deck idea didn’t work so well, aided by Matt blowing up part of it really early – We still managed to take a soul though and got a 3-2 timeout victory
Round 3: Dylan and ??? Our deck idea worked like a charm again, and after the disastrous last game we finally got our code down, and won fairly easily, 5-2

Result – 2-1-0 1st Place.

I had intended to play T1-2P, but because we didn’t initially have enough players for T2MP I borrowed Alex O’s Type 2 deck and played it.

Round 1:
Allen Collins, Ron Sias, and Kayleb ?

I honestly don’t remember what happened in this game beyond the fact that I tied for second with 5 souls and Allen won.

Round 2:
Same group, we played two rounds because we would have been very bored if we didn’t, this game went much the same as the first, Multiplayer is always a frustrating category, between table-talk, and bad multi-player plays, but this game may have been one of the worst I’ve ever played, and I was not a happy camper near the end, I did win, but only because Ron ran out of defense and I got first shot at the soul. Allen ended up tied for second with 5 just like I did, and as a result we tied for first place.

Result: 3.5 points, Tied for 1st place.

Booster Draft.

We did a tins draft, with Disciples and Treasures, as well as Patriarchs and Kings since we had both Foof and Roa tins.

I had tin 4 (Blue/Brown)

This is a pretty good tin, with Jacob, Uzzah, Complainers, and multiple ways to search the deck for more Heroes via Jacob play first.

My draft was so sick – Especially when we got to the Treasures pack, in which I picked up Leah, Judah and Well Reopened – I also had 4 sites in various colors, and a plain AoC from the unlimited pack. I had two shots at Captain of the Host being in a pack, but alas I didn’t get him, or an FBTN character at all, which are very nice to have in booster, especially with Numerous as the Stars CBN adding them to battle on top of a Gen character, but that’s a minor complaint. I was very confident of my chances, until after deck check Travis told us that he thought my deck was the weakest of the three. Turns out everybody at the table was getting sick stuff.

I still managed to win that table 5-4-4.

Table two I played against Nic and Matt, and didn’t do so well, as they both had crazy defenses.  – Nic won 5-4(matt)-2(me)

Table 3 I won because Jacob + Angel of Might is almost as good as Jacob + Captain in booster. I also had a white site for access to the guy to my left who kept putting them there. Had he left them out where he could give them away I probably would have had a much harder time. 5-3-2.

Result – 2-1, 2nd Place.

Needless to say, a very enjoyable tournament, Travis is a great host, and it was good to see Jon, Jon, Alex and others that may not be able to make it to nationals.

I figured I'd post my tourney report here too, seems like all the cool kids are doing so ;)

You forget to complain about the five minute type two deck.
