Title: Table and seat assignments for Tournament Tracker 2.6
Post by: Kordel Lentine on June 13, 2011, 06:42:08 PM
I have been playing with the Tournament Tracker (2.6) to get a feel for how this coming Missouri State Tournament will go, and realized that I don't know how to use it to assign table numbers.  Even manually entering the table number for each pairing would be fine, but when I try, that entire column is blocked from editing (so is seat assignment, for that matter, but I don't plan on using that one).  Does anyone know if I am missing something obvious?  So far, the only option I can find is to unlock the entire sheet, but I prefer to keep the protection on the cells that need it.

At Nationals when Bany does this, I believe he copies the list of names and pastes them into a new sheet. Row 1 contains the first name, row 2 contains the 2nd, etc.

Hey,

I'm not real familiar with the recent versions of the spreadsheet, but it's possible the table and seat numbers are only intended for multiplayer (where the seating order actually matters).  In two player who sits in what seat doesn't really matter, just who you play.

In my experience, big tournaments that put numbers on tables usually use the row number in the spreadsheet (or row number - 2 so that it starts at 1 instead of 3) to assign a number to each player.

This is a basic question, but it caught me off-guard the first time I used the tournament tracker...

Did you set it all up, choose the type and number of rounds, and then click "Start"? I don't remember table numbers, but I haven't used it in awhile since I can't use macros on my laptop...

I have never noticed "table numbers" or "seat assignments." However, the Tracker rarely works for me, on either of my computers. I usually do the tracking by hand. Are there really assigned seats for multiplayer?

Yes. Since seating arrangement can make a difference, based on who's drawing souls for whom (that is, the person to my left has the first shot at the souls I draw) seating arrangements should be kept as best as possible.

If you're not using tracker, I believe the order is as follows in a clockwise direction: Lowest ranked (fewest points thus far in the tourney) player--->Highest ranked player. That could be the exact opposite way though.

I'm guessing there is fairly little overall effect in maintaining the order, and I don't know if it's mandated in the tournament guide or not (the one tourney I hosted we didn't have T1 multi, and there was only one round of each T2 multi and Booster draft) but hopefully other more experienced hosts could comment.

I always keep the order for MP. After the first round it does matter. On more than one occasion I've seen an experienced player purposefully sit to the left of someone that would probably be "easy pickins" to gain an advantage. And who can blame them since the RLK will probably end up giving away some Lost Souls?

MP is already as much politics as it is Redemption. Keeping the seating order is important.

I hadn't thought of that.  I had not yet gotten to testing a multi-player game in the Tournament Tracker yet.  That IS what those columns are for.

For 2-player games, I want those columns unlocked (specifically the table number column--seat number is irrelevant) so I can send the current standing to the second monitor that will face the players, and be able to announce: "Current standings are now posted.  You have ___ minutes to see your next pairing and report to your assigned table."  This is the smoothest round transition I have ever seen, and lets players know where they stand each round, which I have found most players really appreciate.

My Excel skills don't go there.  Anyone know how to go about getting those columns unlocked for 2-player games?  I only know how to unlock the entire sheet, but would prefer to keep the protection on all the other cells.

I read through the guide, and I did not see any mention of seating order. If this is a normal rule for major tournaments, then it needs to be in the guide. I have never heard of this rule since I have never been to a Regional or National Tournament, and the only State Tournaments I have been to are my own.
