Title: Starting Tournament Hosting
Post by: Doctor on November 20, 2011, 08:49:55 AM
Hi! I've been plating Redemption for a little while sand I've never participated in a tournament. So I thought I'd check and see if there was a game master near me, and there isn't. That being said, my area doesn't have many Redemption fans. I'm working on getting some friends interested, but I'm worried about the "How many people do you expect to attend your tournament(realistically)?" part on the application. How many is a good number? And how many events should I offer at my first local tournament?

Where are you at? People on the boards know playgroups in many places.

Florida's a better place to be than some.  Ask YourMathTeacher for help.

If you have six of your own guys in a playgroup that's pretty good if you are in a remote area.

Ok, thanks. How many events would you suggest for about seven or eight of us, some newbies?

In a local I think you have to have two events at the least but I don't host so don't go by me.

I am in Orlando. Feel free to contact me with questions.

For your first tournament, I would suggest just a couple of categories, so you can get used to timing issues and scorekeeping. I would recommend Type 1 2-player and Type 1 Multiplayer. If your group uses Type 2 decks, then you could also consider 2-player or Multiplayer in that category. Keep it simple to start.

Don't worry about the "realistic" amount of attendees. Just put the number of your playgroup. Rob usually sends a couple extra promos, but you could also just overestimate, then send the extra promos back. Rob includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope to return the paperwork and extra promos.

I'll PM you my phone number so you can call me on tournament day if you have time-sensitive questions.

Thanks, I appreciate it, a lot of my friends travel a lot and won't be here all at the same time till late January/early February, but I wanted to go ahead and turn in the paperwork as soon as I have the money. I appreciate all of your help, and thanks for being a really nice forum, I've been on some forums for other things where they just burn new members.

Where I am, which is Fort Myers, Florida there are only three Redemption fans, and that's including me.

We had about 20 people at the Florida State Tournament for each of the last two years. My local tournaments run about 10-15 people regularly.

When would the next one be?

The next State tournament is yet to be decided, but most likely in June.

My next local tournament is yet to be decided, but most likely during my Christmas Break.

That's awesome to hear, welcome to the community!  Another playgroup is always great.
