If memory serve correctly, he's around 40 miles from Magic Mountain (haven't driven down there since last year).

Bryon hosts tournaments in Arcadia, which is the next city over from Pasedena (Pasedena is where the Rose Pararde is).  However, last I heard, the plan for Nats is to have it about 20 miles west of the usual place down the 101 in Simi Valley or Thousand Oaks in order to have enough room.

Here is an interesting quote from the Cactus Host Guide regarding Nats:

There may be only one national tournament per year. The tournament host is
personally chosen by Cactus. Cactus makes it a point to try to move the National
tournament around the United States from year to year, allowing players to be
“close” to the tournament at least once every several years.

Come on guys....  All you guys on the east are ALWAYS closer to every Nats than we have ever been to any Nats.  It makes logical sense to have it in CA.

The last MN nationals was in 2005.  The last three tournaments were in New York, Kansas City, and Columbus.

Oh boy. Come on, let's not turn this into another one of those threads. Rob gets to decide the location for nationals. Arguing about it on here won't help anything, Cameron. (especially now that there's a likely winner, as long as the hosts can book the church)

And what would that "likely winner" be?  You have no clue where it is going.  In addition, you have no clue what Rob will choose....

The last MN nationals was in 2005.  The last three tournaments were in New York, Kansas City, and Columbus.

And the 2005 MN Nationals still holds the attendance record, because MN and nearby states had the largest Redemption player base. Looking at Tim's list of people receiving RNRS points in 2008, it's fairly clear that IA and nearby states still have the largest player base.

I am not arguing the merits of MN versus CA or making any specific comment in relation to Nats '09. (As I stated earlier, I understand the desire behind and I am extremely sympathetic towards holding a West Coast Nationals sooner rather than later.) This is just to point out that there is a substantial number of players who are well served by holding Nationals in Iowa/Minnesota/Wisconsin and that the same cannot be said for a number of other states. That is why Minnesota has hosted multiple Nationals, and why arguing "But state X has never hosted Nats" is not very persuasive to me.

And what would that "likely winner" be?  You have no clue where it is going.  In addition, you have no clue what Rob will choose....

Cameron, RBW isn't dissing any location or claiming to know what Rob has decided. He was just saying that getting back into a debate over possible locations (ANY possible location) is rather meaningless at this point. Rob has made the decision (where ever that is) and is just waiting for confirmation. Let's just wait to hear the decision.*

*Or throw out bogus clues--as one of us** has been doing--if that it what floats your boat.

**That "one of us" would be me.

MJB nailed it. I make no claims to be an insider on the big news, but we do know that Rob has made a choice, and is only waiting to hear back from the hosts to make sure that they can get "the church" for the Nationals dates before he makes it official. I may not know wht Rob will choose, but we know he's already chosen. Thus, it is entirely pointless to make remarks about how you think the west coast so desperately needs a Nationals. They'll be forgotten by next year, so just wait until then to start that up again.

Maybe someday we can all meet more regularly to play in full immersion VR, or at least in a really good community software program like that other game has...?
I wish Elkhart/Southbend had a thriving Redemption community like MN does. Man, have I tried! It's like this area is coated with satanic anti-Redemption teflon! (Thus precluding it from Natz, even if my bros from OH and MN would come and help). Mayhaps my seeds just haven't sprung up yet? Natz (or ANY tournament) would be easy to get to here for a whole lotta folks. This is the crossroads of America. At any rate, congrats and mozzeltof to

It's like this area is coated with satanic anti-Redemption teflon!

If only.  My biggest obstacle here in the Rogue Valley have been churches!  Which is the pinnacle of irony as Oregon is the least-churched state per capita.   :-\

I may just try the local secular gaming store (MtG, etc.).  At least I have some motivation this year.

Yeah, well, I don't get hostility from church people, just complete apathy. I just don't get why they don't get it???
