I would't mind taking a trip to California. I think they should have a Nationals sometime soon. I would just make it part of a family vacation.

That's the spirit!  Bill has the right idea.  You have to think outside the Redemption box.  SoCal has so many opportunities for a complete family vacation coinciding with a Redemption tournament.   :)

Has Eric submitted applications to host nationals in the past? I wasn't aware of that. The only people that are "turned down" are the people that submit a bid for nationals. The opinions of the people on the boards don't have a lot of bearing on where nationals ultimately ends up.

Oh, I realize that the people don't have a bearing on where Natz ends up. You know what, Eric never went into details. So I'm not quite sure if he submitted a bid or not. I guess that's what he's done over the years. :-\

you can't count on people traveling out to Cali in the middle off the summer when everything is the most expensive

Since Cal has a Mediterranean climate (the Los Angeles area, anyways), there's not much of a seasonal pricing change, as tourists arrive year-round.  The only exception may be hotels, though that changes just about everywhere.

Rates obviously vary depending on other circumstances, but I just checked Travelocity, and right now, I can buy a ticket from Columbus to LAX the weekend of Dec. 9 for $180, or the weekend of Aug. 6, 09, for $400.

In spite of the people on the boards opinions probably not mattering much on this subject, I'll go ahead and share mine :)

I think that once in 15 years is not too much to ask.

I think that if they can pull 60 from their region alone (which seems reasonable), that there would be 65 other people from around the country who would travel there, making the turnout similar to '08.  Realistically, if a person is flying, then it doesn't seem like it really matters where they are flying to, the price and time would not seem to be significantly different.

I think that they would definitely be able to find facilities that could handle Nats, and be close to an airport, and be close to plenty of places to eat and sleep.  The have a playtester (Bryon) who seems more than willing to do what it takes to make it happen.  So I think it would work.

Therefore, my objective mind says that California '09 is probably the best plan (in spite of the fact that I probably wouldn't go).

P.S.  My selfish personal opinion would be that Georgia is a great plan, because that would be easy for me to drive to.  And I have family there.  And they also have all the same things California has (airport, food, lodging, playtester Largent, etc.).  And since it was North last year, then having it somewhere South (GA or TX seem most likely) also makes sense.

It seems far to me that it be out in CA if it has never been out that way. Eventhough it would be difficult for me to get there being in Kentucky.

Soundman has a point. Iowa's regions was just as big as yours, but more central.  Lets not forget the MN had the biggest turn out, followed by KC.

Nationals will be bigger, and bigger is better in this case.

Yes we do understand it but does it mean that we should never get to host on the West coast because its hard for someone to get here.  Those of us on the west coast aren't saying were the biggest play groups or the most central location but we are saying we would like the same oppurtunity from time to time that so many other players get.  Apart of a National tournament is getting new players interested so that they purchase products.  The west coast is the place that could see the biggest growth due to a national tourney.  Just more opinion but  we can't say its hard for players to get to location A or B and discredit that location all together.  Different parts of the country need the oppurtunity to do tourneys at this level to increase the excitement in the game across the entire nation.

That is an invalid argument.  If the regions are the same size, than your argument also states that we can't have it on the east coast because it is too far for US on the west coast to travel.

However, other regions have had Natz while the west coast has not. There needs to at least be representation if equality is not possible.

I agree. Rob should just make it so that Natz is at Cactus headquarters every year at the same time so people automatically know where and when it is. Maybe that would stop people from complaining.

If Rob would put Nats anywhere permanently it should be either Iowa or Minnesota

Putting Nats at one location only may sound simpler but reality says that alot of major play groups outside of that one location could lose a few top players who continue playing redemption because of the fun they have at Nats. And if they knew there local area couldn't host a Nats it might cause them to slowly fall away from the game and if the top players start falling off there will be fewer new players being brought in.

Having Nats move around to different locations actually keeps interest in the game higher.  Yes it does cause discussion but that isn't a bad thing.  We all want Nats to come near us so we can have our chance to play.  Moving Nats around gives big boosts to play groups that host Nats.  New players get to experience the fun and fellowship and that can cause them to stay in the game long term.  I know there are more then a few players that continue to play because of the fun they had a Nats tourney.

So us on the west coast (California, Oregon and Washington) just want that same chance to let the players out here experience the greatness that is the Nats tourney.

To those of you that want the location in your state...get all of the pieces together and make a bid...get all of the playgroups in that area and make plans...we started planning for Ohio in August of 2007 (Schaef doing a TON of work finding locations and prices while we discussed via Skype and email pros and cons of ideas) Think of it like a business proposal. I have heard some great reasons for both locations, so now as they say, the ball is in your court...Naysayers, if it's not in the central US again, it won't be the end of the world, we've had our shot...and there are lots of players elsewhere...just some thoughts  ;D

That would be the worst decision Cactus would ever make.  Are you going to isolate SO many players by making a certain location permanent?  No, it is a bad decision based on the players and based on business.

Raven, if you think TN needs a Nats, start working on a bid!

come up with a reason of why it should be in TN! nobody is going to move nats for one person, I'm sorry to say, but they choose nats for large playgroups in good locations for the majority.
