Regional Smack-Down Tournament

ANOUNCING THE ANNUAL REGIONAL SMACK-DOWN

We've all heard the arguments back and forth about which region is the most dominant. This year we've decided to end the debate. Until next year of course.

In the next two weeks each of the 8 regions has the opportunity to field two representatives against every other region.

Input is appreciated from all players, however the final decision of who will represent each region will come down to the major regional hosts as follows:
NC - Bill V., EC - Chris F., NE – Roy C., NW - Scott S., SW - Bryon H., SC - Terry M., MW - Travis B., SE - Tim H.
I would send input to them before me, It may also be a good idea for each region to start a thread.
Once each region has decided which of their players they will pit against the competition, an exhilarating, crazy, fun 6 week tournament will commence with those 16 players.

The tournament will be run Swiss style, with one minor stipulation. You will never be paired with the other player from your region.

Since this tournament will be run online, both Hamachi and RTS are required, A network will be set up and details PM'ed to the participants once I have the list of participants.

After the six week tournament finalizes the combined tournament score of your participants will be totaled and the regions ranked.

I will be judging the tournament, and I should be online almost 24/7 for ruling issues. Otherwise, as every participant should be a very good player, I would hope you would be able to rule yourselves.

You will be allowed to rip 3 Haman's Plots across the entirety of the tournament to simulate three decks entered. In addition to this rule, you can use no more than three different decks, again to simulate entering three decks.

Depending on interest, I will also be willing to create a plaque with which to acknowledge the winner each year.

Things being taken under consideration:
1. Expanding to 3 players per region - And thus expanding to seven or eight weeks.
2. Playing both T1 and T2 games.

Potential representatives:

North West:
1.
2.

South West:
1.
2.

North Central:
1. Jordan Alstad
2.

South Central:
1.
2.

Midwest:

2. Matthew Archibald

North East:
1. Alex Olijar
2. Jonathan Greeson

East Central:
1. Mark Underwood
2. Daniel Huisinga

South East:
1. Tyler Stevens
2. Josh Kopp

Online BD? Maybe 2 for each category (t2/t1) would be allowed RDT?

I grabbed him, since he's hosting fairly frequently, and I assumed that you would probably be on the short list of players for your region. Also, its not the person hosting regionals, but one of the bigger hosts from that region that I tabbed.

Also, to clarify - It will be a Type 1 tournament, unless enough interest is shown to do both T1 and T2. I do realize that some regions (I'm looking at you SE) are Type 2 top heavy, and that this puts them at a slight disadvantage - Which is why I'd like to see a ton of people really get into this, so that we can do both.

Well I think most top type 1 player's are also strong type 2 players. But it's not vice versa. I think those guys would definitely agree to a type 2 match up to go along with type 1, I know I agree to both.  :-*

I am not hosting Regionals this year. I think he picked me as an overseer since I do not usually play in tournaments. You seem to be a prominant player, which means it would be better if you were not the host.  ;)

I dunno about Greeson, He should probably go into the Northeast Regional since that is where he has lived for over a year.  I would agree with all the rest of Prof's initial suggestions.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with any of the players listed in the Southeast Region. I only know the Florida players right now. Josh Kopp would obviously get the nod from me.

You obviously did not read the part about Josh Kopp. Florida is in the Southeast.

Anyway, I think the lists that were presented on the first page need to be adjusted to include which players are even online, and which ones are even interested. Otherwise, noobs like me will have to draw names out of a hat.

Hey Mark,
Matt's right...I'm technically in the NE now.  I decided to not have Tim Maly switch it for consistency sake.  All my points earned the last couple of years have been predominantly in the NE  (with the occasional sneaking into OH tourneys to remind you guys of my skill.  ;) :P )  In all seriousness, it wouldn't be fair of me to potentially take a midwest spot when I'm in the NE.

EDIT:  this is assuming that I would even get picked at all.  After all, they typically ban noobs from these types of tournaments even if they do have a medal.   ;)

Hey, looking at that list, EC looks severely under-represented. I'd be happy to throw my hat in if we need more delegates. TN is EC, right?
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
