Note- Unless someone can pick me up from the Central PA area, I will be unable to attend. I can cover the gas it would cost for someone to go out of their way, as well pitch in a little extra for gas to make it worth the while, but that's it. If anyone can do this, please let me know ASAP. Otherwise, I will donate another way.

If you would like to make a donation, you can make it out to Matthew Archibald and put "Redemption for Micah" in the memo line. I had intended to make an account specifically for that, but I have been unable to do that to this point. Send the check to"

Sat. Nov. 5th 2011,  9:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.    (this may go later if we need to add rounds) (start side events on Fri. as well)

3 rounds of type 1 multi and teams (other side stuff like ...basketball, ...)
I have some guys who are particularly interested in the idea of a 2-on-2 Basketball tournament on Fri evening.  So if any of you guys that are planning on coming to this are going to be there Fri night, watch out.  I'll go ahead and make a public challenge that no 2 guys out there will be able to defeat my teammate and me in BOTH basketball Fri night AND the TEAMS tournament on Sat.

Who's in? :)

If I can talk my wife into pulling my kids out of school earlier AND Randall out of school earlier.

I'm pretty confident...Matt and I could do both.
My theory (which is yet to be disproven): Wisdom and age beats youth and speed every time.
Or we could push that 2 on 2 tourney off until Saturday night.   8)

I can leave just after noon at the latest.

I had an idea.  A lot of players get frustrated by RLK's in multi, so can we split T1-MP into two groups?  We'll divide into the two groups by the number of lifetime RNRS points on Tim Maly's list.  One will be the REPs, with >= 50 points.  The rest can play without the threat of amazing players.

/Of course he doesn't have the points from last year, but what's one year in the grand scheme of things?

Wow, I like this challenge.  Jon and I should take this up!  and you know you cant handle out secret FBTN/Banding/pre-block-ignore offense combined with our cannot be ignored/cannot be negated/ CANNOT BE STOPPED defense.

just sayin!

Micah will be there around lunchtime on Saturday.  I will be there all day.

I apologize for not being on here as much recently.  I have been very busy trying to complete my masters degree and have had added responsibilities at work.  I will do my best to be on in the future.

Sounds like we've got at least 1 taker.  As for your theory Jon, we've got age and wisdom (me) as well as youth and speed (Brian), so I think we've got the best of both worlds.  We'll just consider our game to be a preview of the UK-NC matchup coming soon :)

So who else is in for a game of B-ball at the tourney this weekend?

As impressive as that would be to see, I do have 1 or 2 other guys coming with me who will probably also want to play.  If it's only 1, then he'd probably be glad to team up with you :)

That'd be fun.  I was planning on bringing people from my playgroup, but none of the eligible members could come.  Otherwise I'll stand behind Greeson and point out all his mistakes.

$100 for gas?!?  I like the way you think!

Related note: Randall, if my playgroup member (Aaron) can't go (checking with him tonight) and your person doesn't go, then I can take the Honda which gets 10 more miles per gallon over the van thus significantly lowering gas prices. (But we also lose satellite radio).

I may not be able to attend but I support this event. If this became a yearly fundraiser I would hold a fundraising tournament next year.

Well I thought that the inaugural Redemption for Micah tournament was a HUGE success.  I don't have the exact numbers, but I think there was about 20 people in attendance including previous National champions from OH and NY.  And fitting with the theme of the Redemption community coming together to team up with Matt and his family to support them, the theme of the whole event was teamwork.

Friday night, this was displayed as many of the people played a new "Sealed TEAMS" category that personally I think is a really nice improvement on a relatively stale category.  At the same time, I was playing some Lord of the Rings RISK where my teammate and I (the forces of good) handily defeated the forces of evil by eliminating them from the board before the ring of power even got close to Mt. Doom.  It was a fun game, and a great way to start.

Saturday started off great with some delicious doughnuts, and a really exciting T1-mp tournament.  In my first game (at the bottom table) I was able to get to an early lead and cruised to a victory 5-2-0.  The most notable memory from that game was the lack of heroes.  After several turns, there still wasn't a single hero on the table for any player.

The second game was a really intense one (as they always are when Jon Greeson, Matt Archibald, and I in the same game).  The 2 strongest memories I have from that game were early on when I had a tough decision whether to CM Matt's hero who would've gotten LS #2 (with GoYS already down).  Jon of course thought it was an easy decision, and that I was a noob to even question it.  In the end I did it, and considering Matt ended up with 4, it was a good thing.  Then later Jon had to decide whether to CM a hero also going for LS #2, and suddenly the decision became a tough one.  It's interesting how a CM seems to increase in value when it's yours :)  The other main memory was when Jon gave Matt his LS #4 so quickly that I didn't have a chance to play Burial on it (since it was the only one there), and therefore I ended up playing Burial on my own LS (also the only one there) when Jon broke through my defense to take it immediately after Matt's turn.  Talk about things coming back to bite you :)  I ended up coming back for the victory 5-4-3?-3?

The 3rd and final round was again with Matt and Dakota, but switched Jon out for Rick (also a formidable foe).  The thing that stood out to me most in this game was that I never drew GoYS, and was just waiting the entire game for the FAs to come my way.  However, amazingly no one ever drew one, and I was able to just gradually get to 5 LSs and the victory.  Joseph was MVP for me despite the fact that Rick sent him to the bottom of my deck at least 3 times :)

After T1-mp ended, we had a break for lunch, and it was lasagna which is my favorite meal in the world.  Delores ROCKS!

We also started the early rounds of the 2-on-2 basketball tournament.  Brian Jones and I teamed up for basketball AND the afternoon Redemption event and challenged all comers.  In our first b-ball game we played Travis Brown (uthminister) and Rebeccah Collins.  We had a very fun if lopsided game.  The second round we played Dakota and Rod Stewart (who thankfully came out of retirement for this tournament).  It was closer, but we still won pretty comfortably.  In the championship, we matched up with Jon "UNC" Greeson (SoulSeeker) and Matt "IU" Archibald (Crustpope).  They started off strong and were winning for a while, but faded late and Brian and I were able to charge back for the victory and bragging rights until next year :)

While these games were happening between rounds, we were also playing the T1-TEAMS event.  In the first round Brian and I played against Dakota and Kayleb Matthews who were running a combination of Genesis and Prophets.  They had an AMAZING draw and jumped out to an early lead with GoYS, AotL, SoG/NJ, but after that I was able to shut them out with my Egyptians.  Meanwhile Brian started taking LSs and we ended up winning 5-3.

Second round we played against Jon Greeson's 2 sons who were playing a nasty BTNB pair of decks that seemed to never run out of heroes to attack with and negate all our abilities.  Thankfully my Herod's were able to stop that from going anywhere, and this time both Brian and I were able to take some LSs and we ended up winning 5-0.

The last round we were matched up with the same team that we played for the championship in basketball (Jon and Matt).  They had a really nasty PG/Brown defense that we were actually only able to break through 1 time the entire game.  However, our defense was also able to keep them from breaking through the entire game until the final turn.  Thus we ended up tied for that game, and it all came down to LS differential, where we were blessed to be in the lead by a single LS.

So when all was said and done, I was surprised to have gone through 3 events without losing a single game.  Against the level of competition that was there, that was considerably better than I thought would happen, and I give God all the glory.

And even more importantly than the outcome of the games was the fact that when everything was counted up at the end of the day, the event had raised a lot of money to help out the Archibald family as they are preparing for the inevitable medical expenses in Micah's future.  Back when we were first planning this, I was optimistically hoping that we might raise $300 with the format that we ended up choosing.  But thanks to the generosity of so many people, the final total was actually $500.  It really touches my heart how the Redemption community has come together on this, and I'm just glad that I was able to be a part of it.

Next year hopefully even more of you will be able to join us :)

There are a few errors in Prof's report.
    1. I played my CM first, and it was a tough decision because I was balancing "taking a dive" for Matt and playing competitively.  The reason I considered the "dive" because I drove to Cincy with the sole intent of blessing Micah and by extension Matt.  So I wanted Matt to win all categories.
    2. Prof U's burial was a spite move.  I was in last with 1 lost soul while the other two players were at 3 or 4 souls each.

    3. I am confident that in the final table....Matt and I had the superior Teams decks.  Unfortunately, as Mark described, we finished in a 1-1 tie for 2 reasons....
a.) Mark's slow play (which conveniently benefits defensive players)  :P
b.) despite mass drawing....I couldn't gain a crucial card, and despite my teammate's mass drawing he couldn't gain 2 crucial cards. With poor draws of both decks...we still tied 1-1.

However, I was disappointed that I couldn't get Matt the 1st place for him in a tournament meant to support him.  At least, Matt got a great display of many of the new cards.  Other than that, I had a great time and it is always fun to have verbal maneuvering competitions with Mark in multi-player.  It is the only redeemable quality of T1 Multi.

Other facts that Mark failed to mention:
his generosity to my kids was much appreciated.
his sound advice in helping grow playgroups is very valuable.
his compliments are flattering but I am not a "formidable foe" in multi.
our banter about my "chip on your shoulder" was hilarious and will not soon be forgotten.

As always, many great friends and memories are tied to Ohio [and it's armpit extension KY  ;) ]...thanks for that everyone!

It was a blessing to have all that traveled to Crosspointe for the tournament. Redemption for Micah will indeed be an annual tournament as things stand right now and we hope to grow it not for our glory or even for more money for the Archibald family but for the glory of God. When His people come together to love and support one another it tells a wonderful story to those looking on.

$500 was raised at the tournament with all proceeds of concessions, product, and entry fees going to that total. Absolutely no money was taken by the church or by the organizers. If you would like to add to our total this year, please send your gifts in check form made out to Matt Archibald to:

Redemption for Micah Fundriaiser
c/o Crosspointe Church of Christ
5630 State Route 122
Franklin, OH  45005

If you would like to send it directly to Matt, please feel free to PM crustpope for his information.

    2. Prof U's burial was a spite move.  I was in last with 1 lost soul while the other two players were at 3 or 4 souls each.
Actually I wasn't feeling spiteful at all.  After you broke through my defense, Burial was my only way to keep you from getting LS #2 (with GoYS down and SoG/NJ still coming).  It also was my only way to keep Matt from walking in to take it when it was his turn again, and that would've been #5 for him (thanks to your donation).  I still think it was a logical move.

a.) Mark's slow play (which conveniently benefits defensive players)  :P
Interestingly enough, the ONLY game the entire tournament that I timed out was the TEAMS game that had Jon in it.  Many other games timed out in the tournament in both T1-mp and TEAMS, but none of mine did except that one.  So maybe the problem isn't me :)

I had a great time and it is always fun to have verbal maneuvering competitions with Mark in multi-player.  It is the only redeemable quality of T1 Multi.
I actually like T1-mp for other reasons as well, but you are totally right that the verbal jousting is a ton of fun when you and I are in the same game.  Especially when we get in a competition about which of us is the smallest threat and should just be ignored :)

P.S.  I could mention that Jon totally forgot to mention anything about his crushing defeat in basketball, and my amazing 100% 3-point percentage in the game including the game winning shot.  But as he always says about the UK-UNC matchups, I'll just be the bigger man and let that go :)

I certainly hope you are not implying that I slowed that game down because everyone at the table and those watching would know better!  I didn't have a single time out either, and you were my first...so that argument is a wash.  Additionally, in our game, my turns were the quickest of the four (well, Brian's turns were about as fast).  Therefore, I think it is unfair to blame me for your alleged slower play when I become your opponent.
