Ok thanks.  do you have to pay the host to host for your play group?

A playgroup is just a bunch of people playing redemption. So there's not fee involved. You don't have to pay or anything to "be a play group."

However, once you have at least 6 people or so you'll want to host tournaments. These cost money and so yes, the host will most likely charge an entry fee to pay for the expenses, although a free tournament is not unheard of. It's I think 20$ for a local so some hosts might just pay the expenses.

Where do you live? There might be a playgroup close to you that you don't know about or a couple other players who would like to join. And sometimes there are tournaments that may be relatively close (like 2 hours or less) and it is possible to take turns having tournaments (some near you, some near them).

NR, I think the good ninja was referring to the fact that most playgroups don't charge just to get together and play. It isn't that being in a playgroup has no benefit.

Mr Largent, don't know if Atlanta is too far away for you to drive to the NC tournaments. However, if you make it to any, look for the bearded guy with the funny strings sticking out of the bottom of his shirt (blue tassels :)). I have heard nothing but good about you from the elusive Mr. Darcy Abbot.

Sorry, Raven. It was late and it had been a long day. The problems of being busy and needing to get games in for ROOT is you are often online late. The mistake won't happen again  ;).

Rice county MN

There are play groups with regularly scheduled tournaments in the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Austin. I'm not sure which is closest to you as Rice County seems to be smack dab in the middle to me. Your group should be able to hit three or four tournaments a month if you don't mind driving a (little) bit.

Go to the events section of http://www.covenantgames.com (http://www.covenantgames.com) to get a list of scheduled tournaments in Minnesota.

Also feel free to PM me if/when you are interested in running your first tournament. We could definitely use another strong playgroup in MN.

Thanks.  I was unable to go to any tournament farther away than burnsville because I had to get a ride to them. :-[  I plan on getting my license this month though and I will be able to attend some of those tournaments farther out! :)

Once again, although not the norm it can be done. We just hosted a football party and my mom cooked over 100 dollars worth of food for 12 hungry, exhausted boys and we didn't charge a cent. The same generosity is sometimes done in Redemption.

most of the time, what I have noticed in playgroups (back when NC had them), people would just say, "when you come to the meetings bring snacks to share." If everyone brings a $2 bag of snacks or a couple drinks, noone needs to spend alot of money on stuff. If you want more than just chips and stuff, get with the adults involved and make it a bit bigger.

You could even have a sign up sheet to know who is bringing what so you don't end up with No soda and 20 lays bags
