DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Saturday, May 28th

The tournament season finally gets started here in Orlando. Now that my baby has passed the 6-week age, my wife is ready to have people in the house again. Getting my tax return helped some, too!

I still have not been able to secure a church for hosting, so keep praying about that. For now, tournaments will continue to be held at my home:

17332 Woodcrest Way
Clermont, FL  34714

I am right near the intersection of Route 192 and US 27, eight miles from Disney World. I have a Wii in the living room and you are welcome to swim in my unheated pool if you wish.

We will be starting at 9:00am, with deck checks beginning at 8:00am. The current category offerings will be:

Type 1 2-Player
Type 1 Multiplayer
TEAMS
Booster Draft (with Disciples)
Sealed Deck (G/H)

The tournament cost will be a one-time charge of $5 for all open categories, and a separate $10 charge for Booster Draft or Sealed Deck. Please bring extra money for food since this will be an all-day event.

This is Orlando, so there are many places to eat out. We can order pizza locally from Hungry Howie's. There is a Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell less than a mile from my house. If you are travelling far, overnight accomodations can be arranged. There are a plethora of hotels and vacation homes if you want privacy, but you are welcome to crash at my house if you don't mind a sleeper sofa (unless you are the first to call dibs on the extra Master Suite). ;D

PM or post if you have any questions or just to let me know you are coming.
My wife is a hottie.

Hey Tim! It's good to know you're backing in the hosting mode.

Could you draw out a timeline you think the tournament would pan out? Also remember that our playgroup is twice as big as you've last seen us. We'd probably have to leave Friday night and arrive up there late and/or perhaps rent a hotel room because we got bigger numbers.

I was going to leave it open-ended for now until I heard from whoever plans to come. My playgroup is flexible. Let me know what events and times would work best for your group, since you will be travelling the furthest.

Also remember that our playgroup is twice as big as you've last seen us. We'd probably have to leave Friday night and arrive up there late and/or perhaps rent a hotel room because we got bigger numbers.

You are welcome to find a hotel room, if you choose. However, you are still welcome to crash here. If you bring sleeping bags (or military cots), you should fit 5 in the Guest Room. We can pull out the sleeper sofa and sofa extension to sleep another 3 in the living room. Did you have more than 8?

There's plenty of room here if you want it. If not, I'll start looking for a good hotel that is cheap but not scary.

Hey RTS, how are you?  There any GA guys active up there?

BTW, about two weeks ago I was at a Family Christian bookstore locally in my area.  I was looking for a study bible and decided to see what Redemption stuff they might have on hand and to my surprise they actually restocked, but only on Disciples cards.  Family Christian is known to not resupply around here SO seeing Disciples cards was a huge surprise.  I immediately updated our playgroup on the development via phone and text messages.

I went to check out and the cashier, Sari, a gingerly older lady; about grandma's age checked me out.  She was intrigued with my purchase and asked about the Redemption cards.  She had seen them in the store, but didn't know what they were.  I told her it was a collectible card game based on the Bible and that there's a teaching aspect built into the game with card mechanics bringing light to the scriptures quoted on the cards.  I opened up a booster and showed her the scriptures, art work and card mechanics.  She was thrilled and asked me how I got involved and what do I do with the cards.  I told her about how my brother found the game and how it started with just the two of us and now how our play group has grown to maybe about 7-10 people.

She told me she wanted to introduce me to the store manager who she thought would like the game.  Turns out the manager, Charles, use to play magic: the gathering when he was younger so he really liked the idea of a collectible card game.  I in turn game him one of my booster packs and we exchanged contact information.  I've been in contact with him and will be demoing the game to him next weekend.  He said he'd even like to host a tournament at the store to display the game to customers and raise sales.  I gave him a Redemption poster and host application that I had in my car.  I just regret not having a starter on hand, but at least I did have the application & poster ready.  I gave him a booster to make up for the lack on the starter.  I will be giving him a starter when we meet.  What's funny is that he use to be the manager of one of our guys in the play group.  In fact, I meet that guy, Joshua, buying Redemption cards at the very same store over a year ago.  Josh was also a cashier who simply asked, "you play?" which in turn led to a great friendship to this day.

I would like to get a head count for this Saturday. I will likely double up the categories to save time. If I remember correctly, the Fort Lauderdale group is not coming. Is that correct?

If anyone is planning on coming, please post or PM me so I can be sure to have enough supplies. I have received two emails from players who have not played in years that wanted to get back into Redemption. I look forward to reigniting their interest.  ;D

That's correct YMT, we're not visiting you guys this weekend- sorry. A lot of our guys can't make it. But you will be swamped with us FTL folks during States & Regionals!

That's correct. Three out of town trips, back to back to back was going to be a bit too much so we're going stick with states & regionals which is very exciting for us down here. We're all looking forward to it. I'm glad to hear about those two players, hopefully they get back into it. Did you get my pm concerning Orlando stores?

Most likely. Assuming it doesn't end up being on a day for Anime Festival Orlando or Nationals for Taekwondo. I only live like 30 minutes from Tim, so it isn't a huge trip.
