Post by: YourMathTeacher on March 16, 2010, 05:12:50 PM
DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Saturday, April 10th

The tournament season continues here in Orlando. Our next tournament will be our first DISTRICT!

I still have not been able to secure a church for hosting, so keep praying about that. For now, tournaments will continue to be held at my new home:

17332 Woodcrest Way
Clermont, FL  34714

I am right near the intersection of Route 192 and US 27, eight miles from Disney World. I also have an air hockey table in my garage, and a Wii in the living room. You are welcome to swim in my unheated pool if you wish.

We will be starting at 9:00am, with deck checks beginning at 8:00am. The current category offerings will be:

Type 1 2-Player
Type 1 Multiplayer
Type 2 2-Player
Booster Draft (with TexP)

The tournament cost will be a one-time charge of $5 for all open categories, and a separate $10 charge for Booster Draft. Please bring extra money for food since this will be an all-day event.

This is Orlando, so there are many places to eat out. We can order pizza locally from Hungry Howie's. There is a Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell less than a mile from my house. If you are travelling far, overnight accomodations can be arranged. There are a plethora of hotels and vacation homes if you want privacy, but you are welcome to crash at my house if you don't mind a sleeper sofa (unless you are the first to call dibs on the extra Master Suite). ;D

PM or post if you have any questions or just to let me know you are coming.

Not necessarily. I am open to suggestions and preferences.

My brother & I suggest type 2 before type 1 and probably the type 1-2player after type 1 multi player. I just found out a friend of ours is having a birthday the night before your tournament and about 3 of us from our play group wanna be there so driving the night before is out of the question now.

Well what would y'all like to play and when would you arrive? (That way we'd be able to play what you don't while you are driving here).

Start with the type 2 variants first, save the booster draft for last. Now between those depends on this question., how long does your multi player tournament take?

Multiplayer rounds are one hour and fifteen minutes. The number of rounds depends on the number of players. We usually need three rounds.

When you get a chance, let me know which categories you are most interested in playing. I am assuming that you all will be playing Booster Draft. If you could confirm this, as well as how many total players you are bringing, that would be great.

I also need to know if you are still considering the overnight stay, so we can make sure the guest room is ready.

------------------------------

If anyone else is planning on attending this District tournament, please post or PM me so I can get a head count for Booster Draft. I am limited on supplies.

How long would your type 2-2 player take? We'd like to do the type 1- 2 player, type 1 multi and booster draft. As far as people, I still can't give you an exact number right now.

I only have a few players with Type 2 decks, so we may only need 2 rounds. That would be 2.5 hours at the most. That would put the next category somewhere around 11:30am. What time do you think you can get here?

As far as people, I still can't give you an exact number right now.

As soon as you have a good guess, let me know so I can be sure to have enough supplies on hand.

Maybe about three. One of the more committed guys told me that it was too long of a drive even if I drove so I'm not counting him. With another, he didn't show up yesterday for our type 1-2player or our multi; Im not getting a solid response from him so I'm going to say 3 right now and if we manage to bring more that's a good problem.

I'd like to leave maybe about 7:30-9:00. What time should we leave if we want to skip the type 2 stuff and maybe 1 round of the following type 1-2player, if we need a little more time in the morning and if you run a type 1-2player after type 2?

Type 1 2-player rounds are one hour long, at the most.

Are you saying you would rather play Type 1 Multiplayer than Type 1 2-player?
Title: Re: Orlando District 04/10/10
Post by: Deck Metrics on March 29, 2010, 04:05:16 PM
No, I actually want to play the type 1-2player more than the multi, I just figured it would have more rounds than a multi-player so it would be better (result wise) to miss the 1st round of that than to show too late to join the multi. I hope I'm not confusing you, lol.

Happy Resurrection Day Tim! FYI, 3 of us will be driving up Saturday morning to join your tournament.  So are you going to start with Type 2-2player 1st and then Type 1-2player?  What time do you think the tournament will close?  We may have to leave by 5:30-6:30pm.
Title: Re: Orlando District 04/10/10

The timing will be mostly based on the number of players for each category. Here is an example schedule:

8am-9am       Deck check-in/trading
9am-11am     Type 2 2-player (This may take just one hour since only a couple of my players have T2 decks)
11am-2pm     Type 1 2-player (I may need to add another round if you arrive in time to play this category.)
2pm-3pm       Lunch Break (This can be shortened as needed.)
3pm-6pm       Booster Draft
6pm-8:30pm  Type 1 Multiplayer

Hey Tim! here's a math problem I need help with... T - 3 days = ?

If this is a math problem then the answer is T - 3, since unlike terms can not be combined. If this is a riddle then the answer is "Eager Floridian."   ;)

I'll let the players post reports of their games if they choose. I am hesitant to reveal too much about other peoples' decks without their permission. However, for now, this is a preview:

Thank you for joining us. I know that was a long drive for you. I'm glad you made it back safely. Remember that for future events you are welcome to stay in our Guest Suite overnight. That was the room that we had the video games set up in.

The kids loved the mats. Joannah attributed the mat to her blazing start in Type 1 2-player, where she won her first two games 5-1 and then came so close to defeating RR in a 5-4 nailbiter.

Oddly enough, the real hit with the kids was the miniature Bible token that my son won. The bunch of them played with that thing for the rest of the night.  ;D

To me, any one under the age of 20 is a kid. 20-30 is a youngun'. 30-40 is a whippersnapper. 40-50 is a peer. 50-60 is a mentor. 60-70 is an elder. 70-80 is a retiree. 80-90 is a gramp. Over 90 is an inspiration.

The drive up didn't even feel that long. It felt like an hour and a half, I think it's because we had a lot to look forward too. The drive back is a different story, lol. I'm still very glad we drove up. We started the process of determining whether or not we can start hosting a redemption group with another church today.

I think that Nats 2011 will almost for sure be in MN/IA (which appeared to be the runners-up this year).  However, I think that its not too early to start campaigning for Florida Nats 2012, which could actually have a decent chance.
