Hey, I want to thank everyone who came to the Local in Dayton today.  I had a great time.

Type 1 2 Player
1st - Matt Archibald
2nd - Jonathan Pequinot

Type 2 - Multiplayer
1st Rod Stewart
2nd Matt Archibald

In 2 player it came down to a time out win.  Had the game lasted 5 more minutes, I probably would have lost.  But as it was I eeked out a 3-1 Time out win.

In multiplayer, the beat was pretty brutal.  We ended three rounds tied at 6 points But Rod had  +14 LS differential and I had  +13.  I made myself a target jumping out to a 3 -0-0 lead in the first round, and I got quite a bit of Dominant flow after that.  But the WORST move I made was on a feat of trumpets, I declared 4 when I knew Rod had no way to block and then I gave him 4 cards.  Before the Feast of Trumpets, he had a SoG, a Grapes but no EC to block.  After I gave him 4 more cards, he not only had an EC to block, but he also got a Martyr so there was really no way for me to rescue against him.

ugh.  I think I hate feast of Trumpets.  it has done me just as much harm as it has done me good sometimes.

Matt, I will make sure to promote your touranment with the guys at Schumer's. In addition to that, I wanted to let all of you Ohio players know that for the next eight weeks we will be doing theme nights at Tuesday Night Redemption at Schumer's Baseball Cards & Comics. The schedule is as follows along with whose idea it was:

1/5/2010    //  Type-2 play (Rod)
1/12/2010  //  No Special Ability Lost Souls Allowed (Rick)
1/19/2010  //  No Dominants Allowed (Matt)
1/26/2010  //  No Humans Allowed (Steve)
2/2/2010    //  Minimum of Four Offensive and Four Defensive Colors w/ Equal Number of Cards Per Brigade (Rob)
2/9/2010    //  Completely New Testament Decks (Caleb)
2/16/2010  //  Only Cards That At Face Value Are Characters, Enhancements, and Lost Souls (Travis)
2/23/2010  //  Minimum of One Separate Card From Every Brigade Offense and Defense (Jonathan)

If players show up with decks that do not conform to the deck building rules for that night they will still be able to play, but they will not be eligible for any of the prize packs (i.e.\ TEP packs).

PK you will have to explain some of the rules for these theme nights.  For instance:

on 2/16 - If I am reading this one correctly then there can be no Arts/Doms/sites/Covenants/curses/Fortresses correct?  TC Enhancements still work but its all just good guys/bad guys and their corresponding enehancements.  Correct?

on 2/23/ -  I am guessing that multicolored brigades dont count correct?

Hey Matt

2-16  That sounds correct.

2-23  This was my idea so I'll elaborate.  I originally thought that multi-colored cards would count but only for one brigade per card so -  you could not use Self to count as all 7 evil brigades but you could use it to account for one of your choice.  However on further reflection I'm questioning this.  That might make it too easy to get all the brigades in the deck; If I use Self, Lurking, Lying unto God, Torment and a duel colored demon then I only have to use 2 actual brigades in my defense which is not what I wanted.  The idea was to have everyone use spread out decks.

So I think your assumption should be correct; only single color cards count to meet the requirement.  Thanks for the question.

By the way, I'll probably be able to make it for the Sat. portion of your tourney and I hope to play with Rod in the Teams cat.

I am glad that you elaborate on your theme JP because I was a little fuzzy on what would be allowed too. I am really excited about tonight's theme since most everyone who has recently begun playing has never tried type-2 play. It should be lots of fun. The weird thing is that my type-2 deck is smaller than the type-1 decks I have been playing recently...

Good to hear from you Allen, We will leave the light on for you.  If only a few people play on Friday we may do BOTH categories so come for as long as you can.

Night #1 (Type-2)

We had six people turn out to play Type-2. Most of the guys who have just started playing except for Rob, did not take a swing at this style of play since the number of cards they have available is still too limited. Actually two of the newer players did stick around and played a game of LotRs. As for the six who played Redemption, I (Travis) took first, Rod took second, and Caleb took thrid. Caleb beat up on Steven's new Panic Demon deck 7-3 and I took unfair advantage of a deck that I had helped to construct just a few minutes prior, beating Rob 7-1. Rod and Jonathan (a beastly opening pairing) ended at a 6-6 tie when time expired. Round two was interesting pitting me versus Caleb in which I ran away with the game 7-0. In all fairness, Caleb would have put up a much greater fight, but he chose not to go in early which allowed my deck to get set up quite heavily. Rod played Rob which ended more defniately for Rod this time reaching 7 before his opponent. Steven and Jonathan were knee deep in one of Jonathan's combos intended to discard Steven's deck when Jonathan had to leave, forfeiting the game unfortunatly. I am pretty sure Jonathan would have run away with the game had it gone the full time. Overall a good night ending with some liking Type-2 even more and some vowing never to play it again. Everyone who had a Type-2 deck ready to play received at least one TeP pack with third getting two, second getting three, etc. We will see yall next week with no special ability lost souls in your decks.

Hey, not that I need the cards for winning but I thought that Steven had conceded our game (there was no doubt about the outcome) before I left giving me the win.  That would have put me ahead of Caleb and maybe Rod depending on his score.

By the way, the reason I left early is I got a call from my wife that she was not feeling well and on the way to Urgent Care.  It turns out that she had gallstones and had to have her gallbladder removed (at the hospital - not urgent care).  Thankfully, the surgery went well and she is home healing.  I don't know that she'll be well enough by Tuesday for me to come.

Matt, I also have some potential conflict for next Sat.  I still hope to come but I'm praying about it and waiting on God for direction there.

Glad everything went well!  I'll bet that was a crazy night and I am glad there were no serious complications.

We will leave the light on for you just in case.  Hope to see you there but I understand if there is something more urgent!

I will hope to see most of you there at Schumers this tuesday.

You would typically go here( http://www.redemption.com/red_tournament_2010.php ) but I checked and there are no Columbus tourneys scheduled there yet...you may want to message THE SCHAEF and see if he has any impromptu tournaments coming up...

Nothing yet but I might try and schedule something for February.  And if I can't get my act together to do it on schedule, I'll announce an ad hoc tourney in advance.

Here's one, by the way: Extravafesticon IV - Sat. 11/27

Night 2 // No Special Ability Lost Souls

It was actually nice to play a game where a lost soul didn't set you aside or make you discard cards. Probably the nicest thing was not having a half rescued lost soul come and go; forcing you to rescue ten souls to end up with five. We had a new guy tonight, Anthony, who along with myself played with E/F starter decks for the night. We didn't win, but Anthony did come close when he played Tom ending the game with a respectable 4 lost souls. Not bad for a guy who has never played and is using a crummy starter deck. Other than that we had the usual suspects at the top of the leader boards including Rob, Rod, and Tom (I think that is right, now I am second guessing myself. If anyone was there and knows this is wrong please correct me.) Anyway, all went away with nice new TeP packs for FREE and the winners were rewarded accordingly as well with TeP packs. I am really liking this theme stuff, however we have been missing a certain Rick... ;D

Next week's theme is No Dominants...

Schaef posted earlier that he did not know when he would host again.  The only one he has down for sure was next fall during the Ohio State/Michigan game.

He may host a tournament in Columbus this year (I hope so!) but he hasn't committed either way yet.
