AWESOME! ;D ;D ;D

Whats up with the Thursday and Saturday round orders? I always liked the traditional way the rounds were set up before.
-
You have no idea how much this just made my day. I cannot wait! :)

All I can say is who on earth decided to have Booster on Thursday and Sealed on Saturday? And three of the least popular categories on Saturday? Now there's not really any reason for me to stay Saturday, but I don't want to make the trip all the way up to MN for two days of playing. Seriously, horrible schedule.
*EDIT* The more I look at this schedule, the worse it becomes. Thursday and Saturday should basically be switched piecemeal. And even though I don't play T2, haven't people been angry with T1 and T2 2 player being at the same time for years? I can't really think of any player demographic that would be pleased with this schedule.
-
My only complaint is booster is on the first day, so I won't be familiar with the cards while drafting. Although I'll be quiet, as I'll have the option to play my favorite events.
-
Pretty sure you'll be familiar with the cards in the draft :-*
-
Actually I really like the schedule.
Thursday: Booster and T2-mp
This is great because it puts the 2nd most popular event up against the least popular event. Most people will choose Booster, but the T2 only people will still pick T2-mp.
Friday: T1-2p and T2-2p
This is a bit rough because some people like to play both of these, but I like it because it pulls out many of the most experienced players into the T2-2p, and leaves the T1-2p more open to the newer players.
Saturday: TEAMS, T1-mp, Sealed
This is also a great lineup. My guess is that most players will pick TEAMS, but it's really up in the air. Since T1-mp and TEAMS have both been up against Booster for the last several years, it has been really hard to gauge just how popular they are. So this year, they'll go head-to-head, and we'll get to see.
-

Usually a certain trend happens on Saturday...and given what I've heard about what's next, it doesn't surprise me that SEALED is on Saturday....
Are these a new starter deck confirmation?
-
@ Sauce: That is my guess.
@ everyone: Ironically, roles have been reversed in our household. I am hesitant to go to Nats because of the long distance drive and my Masters degree has not allowed me to play much with the new cards, and yet my WIFE is trying to talk/pressure/bribe/coercr/any other trick to try and get me to GO to Nats.*
So it leaves me truly up in the air about the whole trip. I had originally decided not to go, but my wife continues to present a convincing case. I doubt I will be competitive, but it is always great to see some of you guys each year.
* My wife has family in Minnesota that she rarely sees.
-
Have fun guys. One of my closest friends is getting married August 13th in Seattle, and I am a groomsman in the wedding. I owe my plane ticket and weekend to celebrate his big day. I am now extra glad I flew up last year to play in MN.
God bless,
Kirk

Interestingly enough, one of the Alstad family's closest friends (Soundman's sister) is also getting married on August 13...fortunately we'll be able to make at least the first two days, and depending on the time of the wedding, perhaps that day as well.

Listen to your wife. From what little I know, she seems to be amazingly brilliant.
Also, let us know what your plans are for getting there.
As to the schedule, I don't like that Teams and T1-MP are together, but everything else works, unless I develop a sudden talent for T2.
-
Actually I really like the schedule.

Interesting that you don't defend the choice to have the second most popular category on Thursday B)
-
I know what I'm gonna be doing thursday and saturday but friday idk what I am gonna do.
-
Soul Seeker, where does your wife's family live?
Kirk, bummer man...that's the reason Fortress Alstad missed Ohio Nats, hope you have a great time though!
Logistically speaking, having T1 2P and T2 2P on the same day makes the most sense. After that it's a matter of separating the two most popular events besides those (Booster and TEAMS). I believe the reasoning is that putting TEAMS on Saturday gives people a chance to work on decks with their teammate on Thursday and Friday so that those who are able to coordinate with their teammate well before Nationals are not at such a huge advantage. Having Booster on Thursday also means the new cards get circulated right away. Having TEAMS and T1 MP on the same day makes sense because they are similar in format (4 players, open deck, T1 rules, etc) which means putting T2 MP with Booster. Lastly, Sealed could pretty much go on any day because it's probably not going to be a huge draw whenever it happens.
-
Question to anyone: is this the same location as in 2005?
-
@ Guardian:
Her aunt Lucy lives in Minneapolis. The one time we visited...I think it took me 10-15 minutes to drive to Mall of America.
The majority of the others (aunts, uncles, cousins) live further north in and around International Falls.
She also has family on the way to MN in northwest Chicago.
My wife's grandfather owned something like 1200 acres in northern Minnesota, so her maternal side is scattered all up in there.
All of this is based from memory from the last time I was in Minneapolis on the way to her family reunion in I.F. It was early in Liriano's career and before my first son was born which means 2000 or 2001. At least, I don't think he was born yet. It could have been as late as 2003. However, it was well before the time that I discovered Redemption.
-
Question to anyone: is this the same location as in 2005?
Nope. That was Burnsville, MN. This is Arden Hills. Church is about the same size though.
-
I believe the reasoning is that putting TEAMS on Saturday gives people a chance to work on decks with their teammate on Thursday and Friday
That is a great point, and I'm glad they set it up like that :)

My only thought would be for those who don't have the ability to make separate teams decks, T1 decks, T2 decks, etc... will have a hard time building/restructuring a new deck between those categories. That's assuming, they only have one copy of certain cards and have to interchange them amongst decks. Quite time-consuming.
-C_S
-
My solution to that would be to have all your decks written down ahead of time, and then as soon as one category finishes for the day, spend some time in the evening preparing the deck you need for the next day.
-
I did that last year. It isn't that hard or time consuming. It took me about 10 or 15 minutes.
-
Having Booster on Thursday also means the new cards get circulated right away.

I actually really really like this schedule. I can play all the categories I want to play.
-
I like the schedule too, I never have to play T2!

This is true, and a very hard decision for me. I do feel pulled to my Type 2 roots in this one. Type 1 players are granted fortune this day. The Type 2 field on the other hand, will face me in what I would say is my best year.

I feel pulled in T1/2 on friday but I'm going with T2 here. Clift you're a wild card, no one, including yourself, ever knows what you'll do.
-
My solution to that would be to have all your decks written down ahead of time, and then as soon as one category finishes for the day, spend some time in the evening preparing the deck you need for the next day.
That would be no problem, but if you have things in your T1 deck that go in your T2 deck, or vice versa, T1-2P & T2-2P are on the same day. I haven't been to Nationals, so I don't know how long the time is between two categories on the same day, but if it's short, would you have enough time to ensure that you've made a legal deck? That's what I was trying to say, just didn't know how to, quite, say... it.

I can come... finally... after 6 years of Districts and 1 State... (Dumb Vacations) :D

Ah, Here's where the confusion is, You don't play all 7 categories at nationals, theres simply not enough time, T12P and T22P are run simultaneously on Friday, and you pick one or the other to play, same with the other sets of categories on Thur and Sat.
-
Yeah, Nationals in MN again finally! Does anyone know who is hosting though? Well I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it the last day depending on what time I leave for Scout Camp that day and as ProfAlstad mentioned Christine H.'s wedding that we are going to attend.
-
Does anyone know who is hosting though?
I'm presuming and almost certain it's Chris B.
Wow, and two jedi who were both just barely kindergarten when I first met them are both 13 when I meet them again at Nats 2011 --- you and Kurt H.
Boy, am I getting old!
Godbless all!

You presume correctly, although we will run Nationals by committee with myself, Matt B., Ben N., Justin A., Jordan A, and a heavenly host of volunteers making it happen. That's the nice thing about having Nationals in MN, we have lots of helping hands.

I was referring to Chris B., but that's okay I will plan against your deck because I know what you're playing somehow.(that's a joke)(maybe)

Okay, I'm gonna grumble here.
First: I don't know about you, but in the Northeast Teams is the LEAST popular category. But that may be different in MN.
Second: I complained about it last year, im gonna complain again. Booster on the first day is just silly. I know its a way to get people to make a further effort to get there the whole time, and I do totally understand that if it's definitely a new starter then having that on Saturday makes sense. I don't know, something still doesn't sit right with it...
-
First: I don't know about you, but in the Northeast Teams is the LEAST popular category. But that may be different in MN.
It is. TEAMS is probably the second or third most popular event in MN, depending on how many T2 players are at a tournament.
Second: I complained about it last year, im gonna complain again. Booster on the first day is just silly.
Why is it silly? To be perfectly honest, having the second most popular category (nationally) on Saturday has always been a bad idea IMO...weekends in summer are always busy with weddings, family reunions, what have you, so I think it is better to have it earlier, since not as many people will likely be there on Saturday. Especially since it is likely that attendance will be skewed in favor of midwesterners who can more easily come the first two days even if they will be busy on Saturday. Personally I'm glad, because a very close friend of our family is getting married on Saturday, yet I still want to play Booster. This way I can!
-

Really? Didn't TEAMS basically start in the Northeast? I know New York Nats was the first non-official TEAMS tournament at a Nationals.

Booster will be a great way to kick things off.

Type 2 Multi. All TN and GA players will pilot Sitc decks and hope to get paired up and team up on unsuspecting victims.

NOT during the 2nd week of August

-
Three registrations so far. First 10 that register get a free book of the covenant and every tenth person after that. (20th, 30th, 40th, etc...) You do have to show up.
-
I'll take one! Consider me registered
-
Hopefully I'm the 9010 one. I can't be sure I'll be there, as there are a few family things that might happen that weekend. I'm hoping I can persuade them otherwise...
-
As always I'd love to go but money is scarce so I'm not sure how that will work out.
There is also the fact my wife is due on August 6th but that is a WHOLE week away so that shouldn't conflict much, right?
-
Hopefully I'm the 9010 one. I can't be sure I'll be there, as there are a few family things that might happen that weekend. I'm hoping I can persuade them otherwise...
Wraith, you'd better be there. You made my first Nats that much better.
-
Wraith, you'd better be there. I need a ride.
EDIT: Although, for nats, there's that chance Scott might go, so... :-*
-
Will there be a Type S tournament?
-
Yes there will be a Type S. Two catagories. Type 1 Regular and Type 2 Foils.
Their will also be a double elimination Raquetball tournament to be played in the evenings. So someone will be the first Redemption National Raquetball Champion. Besides the Raquetball court we have the gym reserved also.
-
In addition to type S there will also be Redemption Lotr ccg nationals. Who knows, maybe we will break last years record of 4 people.
-
What is Type S, exactly?
-
The most physically demanding variant of Redemption currently.
-
I'm hyped for Type-S.
I have access to a 500 foot long garage I'll be practicing in, and I'm going to need every inch :-*.
-
WOOT! TYPE S IS THE BEST!
I think I'll go for TS1 though, I'm not a fan of foils. Sometimes they fail. But I'll probably experiment.
-
Hopefully we open a new box of Warriors for Type-S.
What is Type S, exactly?
Just wait till Nats to find out.
-
The most physically demanding variant of Redemption currently.
Also the easiest to cheat at ;)

Interestingly enough, the Twins have a three-game series against the Red Sox the three days before Nats this summer. And it's outdoors now!
-
When will the new set be announced?
-
We don't have a set date. Latest: August 11.

Well of course august at the latest but hopefuly we'll see something sooner.
-
dont worry, my brother the reigning type-s champion has been training vigorously for this monumental event (and by vigorously, i mean by making sure there will be kids wearing shoes 3 sizes too big standing in his targeted area).

I just bought RC Battle Daleks online. I'll be bringing them.

Nope. It stands for Licensed Occupational Therapist Registered. Stop by today to pick up the newest promo: That Funny Couch Thing You Lay Down On.
(yes lotr is lord of the rings and hasn't nathan won it every year?)
-
No, the brothers from california are legit.
-
ill have to let Bryon and Kurt beat you this year at lotr
-
You still have yet to teach me fully how to play that game Nathan.
-
I can teach you at mini camp if you would like.
-
So in order to play lotr do I have to get special boosters or something? What's the deal?
-
It's an entirely different TCG. I'm sure someone will lend you a deck.
-
I'd like to learn at Redemption Camp too.
-
Maybe i would too

Many Greetings to everyone,
It appears that myself and possibly more of the South Florida Playgroup are considering making the trip to Nationals this year (As I have discovered it's conveniently between semesters for me :D ). We are very early on in the decision process, so don't take this as anywhere near definite, but I just wanted to at least provide a heads up just in case. Once the decision is made, it will be confirmed with the submission of a registration application. We have at least 5 entertaining the idea so far. I look forward to hopefully meeting many of you this year!!
Carry On,
-C_S
-
An update on Gretel and I, if her new employment will allow her to start after Nationals, we will strive to make it up there to so many of your smiling faces! We'll keep you posted!
-
Hope both the Florida group and Brad and Gretel can make it. We will put on the best Minnesota Hospitality for everyone.

I'm currently waiting for my employer to approve my vacation request to make Nats this year. I'm pretty sure it'll go through which means South FL will bring 3 players to Nats which is a first. Most likely we will arrive late Thursday morning missing T2MP which we don't mind. I'm just concerned about getting from the airport to the church and the church still having 3 available mattresses for three brothers...

I believe there were more than 30? mattresses at the church and there are couches in the youth room too.

Do not remind how many mattresses there were. I had to drag them all upstairs after the T-2 only tournament.
-
Does anyone know if the church who's hosting Nats besides providing mattresses, does that also mean a pillow? LOL I need to know whether or not to pack one.
I feel like Jesus taking the pillow into the fishing boat...

No, pillows, blankets, etc. are not provided. It will just be a plain old mattress, the type that you would be likely to see in a summer camp lodge.
-
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I will probably no longer be able to attend Nats. Sorry all, believe me I wish this wasn't happening
-
I can still pick up your Goliath, if you'd like.

I don't know where you're getting your Goliaths from, but can I have one too?
-
Just for being a good sport I'll give you a signed Goliath Promo when you check in at Nationals.
-
Oh, Bill's signed Goliath Promos are the best. Too bad...
-
Ya he even gave one out in the drawing
-
Believe it or not, I actually made it for nats this year! I am staying in the "official" hotel this week. (and since nats is in the twin cities this year I can visit my grandparents during the first half of the week. Bonus!) PM me if you want to meet up his week.
-
Anybody willing to trade their Daniel promo for a Goliath promo? I'll even autograph it if you'd like, lol :P

Will the hosts provide generic lost souls for booster draft at nats?
-
Will the hosts provide generic lost souls for booster draft at nats?
Bring your own.
-
Will the hosts provide generic lost souls for booster draft at nats?
I don't know, but I would rate this as a doubtful. There are currently 120+ players pre-registered for the tournament with 75+ playing Booster. Do you have 500 spare Lost Souls you would care to bring?
-
Question for the hosts:
Is the tin draft going to be just the new set? Also, what packs are included?
Question for fellow noobs:
What tin is the favorite to win the draft?
Personally, I'm going with Red. I was going to say Isaiah, but then Seraph got nuked. Gold/Silver has a shot, but Red is the better draft brigade already, and then tins give it a load of powerhouse cards.
-
Question for the hosts:
Is the tin draft going to be just the new set?
Yes
Also, what packs are included? Blue, Green, Gray, Tan, Purple, what ever color Priests is. Not shure if TEP or Disiples will be used. Have enough pink. In other words I'm not sure. You will have to ask Bany when you get there.
Question for fellow noobs:
What tin is the favorite to win the draft?
The one I'm using!
-
Where can I find the listing of what the official rules are for the Teams event this year? They've seemed to be different every year and I just wanted to make sure we knew what was official this year at Nats.

Hey, The Ohio Bus broke down about an hour outside of Nats. They have 15 people in the van and they need some help. if someone is at nats and can help them please call Travis @ 513-293-2369
