I will update this thread between rounds at nationals, If you want to know how a specific player is doing just post thier name, if you want to know what celebrities are here (Rob, Chris) Just ask, I will let you guys know anything you want to know about the state of the national tournament.
Day 1: Chris Bany is yelling out how it is, trying to get everybody set up for sealed deck as Kevin Shride and Bryon Hake check in type 2 decks.
-
Hey,
Just ask, I will let you guys know anything you want to know about the state of the national tournament.
Is Bany wearing boxers or briefs?
Tschow,
Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

-
Updates man, updates! :P
-
This is ridiculous. ::) :)
-
Based on Bany's website, Sam Nurge won sealed deck. No shock to see him taking a National title.
-
Yeah NURGE! NE represent! All of the 4 or so people that are there from this region... :(
-

NURGEIN IT UP!! lol ;D, If only nats wasn't across the entire country from us NE's :(
-
..celebrities?
o.O
-
According to sk's twitter feed--Gabe won T2-2P. That puts us at NE and NC tied at 1 apiece.
Guys, could we put aside the plaints about the location and the long faces until after the tournament? Let's just be happy for the folk who could make it.
-
what are the final ranking thus far in these 2 events??
Was Sam at NE regionals?
-
can we get a link to sk's twitter feed? thanks =D
-
Was Sam at NE regionals?
Yea, he brought the playgroup from Boston. He's got blond short hair with glasses.
And there's a link to his twitter in his sig, I think...
-
can we get a link to sk's twitter feed? thanks =D
It's in his siggy. Or I could just link it as http://twitter.com/RedemptionCCG (http://twitter.com/RedemptionCCG)
-
got'ya , I was wonder why he had not placed in that event at NE then? Makes sense now.

ok guys listen up
Type 2 2 player is in the books:
Gabe Isabull (i mean bell) a.k.a. BrianGabe won!!!
7-0
7-2
7-0
7-0
1-7?
7-1
i think this is correct and yes he ran the deck i posted SpeedCamp woot!
the only change he made was taking guardian's advice and switching a card out for Christian Martyer (Assyrian Camp)
who was the loss to you ask?
why none other than the guy who thought he had the cat in the bag...
Mr. Hiatus- a.k.a. Mr. Tyler Stephens a.k.a. The Combo Slayer do to an early draw of a particular artifact new to the scene this tournament season:
Hidden Treasures
Type: Artifact • Brigade: • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Once per turn, if your lone green brigade prophet begins a battle, you may play an Enhancement or discard an evil Enhancement in an opponent's deck.
...and discard enhancments he did. A combo players worst nightmare! OUCH! Whats really ironic is BrianGabe's sig:
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21
and yet dispite such a knockdown. Rocky- i meant Gabe got back up and finished the race with another lockdown...
and rumor has it we might soon see a new rule change b/c of it...more to come.
Victory!!!

oh yea
1st place: BrianGabe
2nd place: Mr. Hiatus
3rd place: CaptainKirk
4th place:John Michaliszyn
5th place: Xerosplash
Yes, the only loss accrued to Mr. Hiatus was due to a formidable foe with a defence of steel; piloting a jacob captain and a recurision of:
Reuben’s Torn Clothes
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Blue • Ability: 1 / 6 • Class: None • Special Ability: Negate all evil immunity. All Genesis Heroes ignore an evil brigade of your choice.
for the win (7-3)and more importantly knocking Mr. Hiatus out of contentions for 1st place for both Nationals and RNRS
Man what a fight. Good Job to all our contenders.

I helped Kirk Test that Deck and reccomended it be one of the ones he taked to Nats. It is the Infinite RTC deck and a pain to play against lol
RNRS Totals For Type 2-2 player should fall like this

I look forward to Eric's middle names each post. He should post more so I can see more of them. Congats to the winners.

Man I dare someone to show up at SE Regionals! 8)
Tyler-- NOOOOOOOOO!!!
I told you that deck was cursed...and i wasnt even there :-*
-
Kevin Shride is the most outstanding team partner in the Nation! Congratulations on your first place victory my friend. ;D
-
Yep, those two were a monster in teams. Kirk and Ben lost their first game, leaving the games wide open for them to snag the win.
-
Sorry about the infrequent postings yesterdsay guys, my internet was fried, so quick summary for you:
Gabe Wins Type 2 - 2 Player, joining Tim Maly as the only player in redemption history to win both Type 1 2 Player, and Type 2 2 Player.
Then later in the day Gabe continued his dominance by sweeping the teams competition, His partner Kevin Shride also contributed to the victory.
Also, I am proud of myself for my 7-1 Victory over Tim Maly, of course he did draw no site access for the first 7 turns.
Grand Master Rob brought out the TeXP later in the day, and of course people wen't crazy picking them up, and let me tell you there's some crazy stuff in the set, wow.
Anyway, if I can't get internet access, then look for more updates tonight.
-
Congratulations to my tag team partner, Gabe Isbell, on winning three trophies in one day. You're awesome, man!
Kevin Shride

On a side note people were opening Destructions, Guardians, Writs, Shrouds ect. everywhere...
unfortunatly these packs were created especially for Nats due to time restraints in the packaging process. Talk about incentive to go to NATS. srry for the rest of ya- if i was anyone at Nats i would buy as many as i could get.

Actually Rob said that the boxes will probably get slightly better after nationals when he has more time to put surprise cards in the boxes.
Tschow,

Yeah, thanks. Can you pour anymore salt into this festering wound of mine. Also, while you are at it, come over and kick my dog as well. Undecided
+1
But I also wonder if the packs for sale on the Cactus Web site are packaged in a similar way? If so then hopefully those of us who partake of this preorder may get the same distribution of UR's?

sounds good to me

I want to know how T1 2-player is going. Who's taking the crown this year? Something cool or something boring?
-
Early tweets from Scott show...nothing of interest really, as far as results go.
-
Sam Nurge is currently 3-0 for type 1 2 player
HANG IN THERE MY BOY
on a side note, he also won sealed
: )
-
Woot, I'm rooting for you Nurge. Go Nurge Go!
-
Woot, I'm rooting for you Nurge. Go Nurge Go!
Go Gabe!
-
Go Underdogs!
;D
Wish we had the money to be there.
-
Go Humans! ;D
-
Gabe wins T1-2P
Ron Sias wins T2-MP
So, it's NC 2, MW 1, NE 1.
A major congrats gop out to Ron Sias, that is awesome.
The question everyone at Cali is asking themselves would appear to be, "Can anyone stop Gabe?"
In other news, attendance climbs well past that of the 2009 NC Regional making 2009 Nationals the most attended tournament of the year.
-
type 1 2player!? results whose 2nd 3rd?
what kinda decks where prevelent? what kind of decks placed?
how many rounds? 5?
-
If you go to Covenantgames.com Chris Bany has the spreadsheets already posted in the Museum section.
-
i hereby nominate gabe to become lead Redemption R&D designer. he obviously knows the intricacies and ins-n-outs of this game. :)
congratulations gabe.

I thought he was form out east. huh guess not.

If he was, he wasn't at Regionals. At least, I didn't meet him.
-

Jeffrey plays at Bryon's tournaments in California.

Early tweets from Scott show...nothing of interest really, as far as results go.
Apologies. Nearly all of my games today in T2 MP went to the buzzer, so there wasn't enough of a break to post updates at times. Also, the long list of game scores didn't fit on the screens, so I had to ask around to get the data I posted. I'll be more on top of results tomorrow.
-
So far I've gotten 4th and 5th. One lost soul from placing 1st in Type-2 Multi.
Looks like the same old luck is coming around for me this year... :-[
-
No problem, I was just commenting since I had it up at the time. Your doing better than most people seeing as your actually tweeting. :)
-
Did you guys see the tweet (RED made me aware of it) that as of Monday, the second player to play will draw three cards...
-
It's only for online play I believe.

Man, I had my hopes up and everything... :'(
From what I heard (I left before the anouncement to be with my wife who came with me) is that they will have the draw three for a few months and then they will add in the begining prep phase as well (online only, of course). Depending on how they play out, they will be part of regular play eventually.
-
There will be threads of what was discussed and the final discussion to come, probably this week.
-
I had the privilage of playing at a T1-MP table with Rob Anderson, Roy Cruz and Justin (cooldudejsw). Rob mentioned that for 2P only (not for MP) that Redemption is going to try the 2nd player draw on their first turn rule. He said he'd make a post with the details soon. :)
As a side note, he's not in favor of the intro prep phase. It didn't sound like that will be ever be used for official play.
-
+1 ugh
-
Inro prep phase?
-
Search around the boards, there are several threads discussing variations of it. I don't like it myself, as it might get a bit slap-jacky.
@Gabe, is the "second player draw" being extended beyond ROOT? Your announcement during the awards only included that it was going to be online, will Rob be extending it?
-
No, as of right now, there are no additional rules or phases being added or changed.
Intro-prep phase is a definite not going to happen.
The online tournament will be the only type using 2nd player draw 3.
Teams will not be an official type this calendar year.
Hand sizes are still as much as you want.
We (the playtesters and others) are in the process of determining what will help benefit the game. The online tournament is going to try the 2nd player draws 3 and report back to us with some numbers. Other things are being discussed to try and help the game stay the way it has been, but shy away from first person to rescue 3 wins in T1, draw everything possible in T1 and T2, and the table-talk/ganging-up that goes on in T1 multi. There might be some type of change in January, but don't expect any major rule/game changes until then.
For now, just enjoy TexP.
Eric "IHOP conversations ftw" Largent

Intro-prep phase is a definite not going to happen.
If that's the way it's going to be, then I'll have to live with it. But would someone please tell me what the downside to the "intro-prep" phase is. I've heard that Rob, Gabe (and now playtesters in general) don't like it. But I don't remember every hearing anyone give reasons why it would be bad. Can someone please help me out here so I can understand both sides.
-
The downside is that it doensn't help nearly as much as any other option at correcting what it is supposed to correct and gives unnecessary strength to arguably the best defensive structure in the game to which a large majority of decks can only afford to contain 2-3 counters. If the introprep were enacted, people would have to start carrying nearly 4 or 5 site access cards IMO due to the ease of setting up and the structure of teh current card base, which highly promotes playing a some sort of softlock, if not a hardcore sitelock.

This. To elaborate, the powers that be are going to shy away from things that make the game longer, which this would certainly do.
-
Additionally, there's be a bunch of slap-jack between fortresses, arts, sites, etc being put in play first between players since everyone is going at once.
-
who won t1 multi?
-
who won t1 multi?
Brandon "lightningninja" West.
-
ok, so that makes it...
NE=2
MW=1
NC=2
SC=1
and if you include teams, that makes it 3 for NC...
-
Yeah, and heres some food for thought:
Gabe Isbell
John Earley
Kevin Shride
Jeremy Kemp.
Names missing from list:
Tim Maly
Chris Bany
Anybody care to tell me what the title of the list is?
-
North Central players that went to nationals and placed.
-
Tada,
Now of course I believe Chris got unlucky, but Tim should think about playing a different deck ;) Looks like people have got him figured out :P
-
who won t1 multi?
Brandon "lightningninja" West.
He also won Type NW. :)
-
Never met Gabe but I have heard nothing but good things...Good to see a fun, nice, good, and humble guy winning! If You are reading this Gabe I look forward to meeting you!

Obviously you've never met me if you believe all those things to be true. ::)
Likewise! Where ya from?
-
Take a look at the last name there and you might get an idea. ;)
-
I am from Pittsburgh, I am Mike Berkenpas' son (my source haha) and I just started playing again after having not played since the angel wars set came out.

Yeah, and heres some food for thought:

and those are only the people who went to nationals. Chuck Lamp (never played him, but after he won Regions for T2-2P, I thought I'd add him to the list), Justin Alstad, Nathan Voigt, Wild Bill, James Roepke, Matt Brinkman... ... they were all missing. I'm probably forgetting somebody too.
-
The entire northeast besides the 4 or so that went are missing. And we still took 2 titles.
-
Well, Rob just made an announcement that shot down most of what I just said...
I thought he wasn't implementing it until next calendar year, but whatever.
As far as intro-prep, I think there can be a lot of different hairy situations that occur, especially with the new territory-class enhancements. I can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head, but I do remember that an intro-prep phase did not seem like the best way to go about it. Allowing the second player to draw 3 should help enough that the intro-prep is not needed. However, this could be wrong and we might need to move to something like that.
Eric "BURNed by Rob" Largent
-
OK, thanks for the info guys. I really did want to understand the downsides of "intro-prep", and I can see where you're coming from. I agree with Eric "how could anyone not" Largent, that we start with the 2nd player draw 3, and then see if anything else needs to be done.
-
The entire northeast besides the 4 or so that went are missing. And we still took 2 titles.
lol By the SAME PERSON! I think Nuge does deserve some huge credit. Everyone is talking about Gabe, but Nurge won the same number of Categories as Gabe did.
-
And he did it in categories most people claim as "luckbased". Pwned that myth.
-
And he did it in categories most people claim as "luckbased". Pwned that myth.
I admit that I never would have guessed that someone would do this at a National tournament. I am amazed!
-
A little bit of luck and a whole lotta playing skill; that mostly sums up closed categories. ;)
-
I agree. I think sealed really does have a lot of skill. You know most of the cards in your opponent's deck, so it is kind of like playing against a deck you know very well.
-
A little bit of luck and a whole lotta playing skill; that mostly sums up closed categories. ;)
I would switch the adjectives, especially in Booster Draft. I would even venture to say Booster is 80% luck and 20% skill. I played all my games well, but with drafting only 1 battle winner, I could do little.
Sealed is IMO 50/50. There is a lot more skill because the cards are quite more static.
Closed categories are IMO a lot of luck.
-
If you pick blue packs in Sealed in order to get AoC, then you're doing something wrong.
And if it's 80% luck, how did Sam win both events? Is he just that lucky?
-
Luck can impact the outcome of a single game as I found out in booster. But Sam played several rounds (forget count) in sealed. Sam is just plain good. And if not for a single mistake in their team game against Gabe/Kevin, we'd be talking about Sam winning three events. :)
-
i let sam win boster
-
If you pick blue packs in Sealed in order to get AoC, then you're doing something wrong.
You gotta be sneaky....
-
. I played all my games well, but with drafting only 1 battle winner, I could do little.
Sorry but I completely disagree with this. I played at the table with me, you, Sam, and another player and you gave him the game. I won all the rest of my games, so had you switched the seats with me and Sam, which is luck, or had you played right, then it'd be me in the top seat, not Sam.
-

Oh boooohooooo....
Played right in your point of view? You act like I was out to get you, and I really don't appreciate it. The fact that if I had done something different you would 100% theoretically could have won does NOT mean you can be mad at me. I played fine, maybe not how you wanted me to, but fine.
Don't be that way. None of us want to hear about it. :P

Brandan Abbott does that, and though it doesn't work, it'll be awesome when it does.

I think everyone will agree with me that blocking the guy with one lost soul and the guy with two lost souls, yet giving the guy with with 2 another point, then another more next turn...So the score went you with one, me with one, other guy with two and Same with 3...
I did not say you were out to get me, just that you said you played right and I was pointing out that you did not lpay right. Unless you wanted to let Sam win.

Hiatus sounds bitter and Cameron sounds arrogant. Who wins in this situation?

In the wise words of that one old Asian guy, no one wins a fight.
I think you should both just kiss and make up! :-*

Hiatus to me doesn't sound bitter he is just stating it as it is.
-

I thought fire was effective against grass types... Poke'mon has no logic :-\
