Multiplayer Scoring

I'm still fuzzy on multiplayer scoring for Swiss Style tournaments. I was told that in a 4-player game. where the game is won before the end of the round, that the first place winner scores 3 points and the second place finisher scores 1 point. But, this is only true if there are more than three players. Is this also true for 5 players, or are there additional points beyond that?

I trust the person that told me, but I want to know where this information is listed since I have never seen it before. I may have simply overlooked the information. Reyzen always had the Tournament Tracker program so I never had to think about it, but now I'm down here in Florida with a computer that doesn't have Excel.

Help.....   :-[

The multi-player scoring is both built in to the Redemption Tournament Tracker and has a separate tab called, "Scoring", that outlines how to handle multi-player games.  The Tournament Tracker can be downloaded here:

The number of points = the number of people playing.  Thus, 3-0-0, 3-1-0-0, 3-2-0-0-0 (or similar, depending on ties).

[edit] Stamp wins again, the spreadsheet has a very detailed breakdown.  Use that.

Thanks guys! So I can download the tracker, then read the multiplayer rules using an Excel reader program?

Yes.  You'll see it when you open the file -- the "scoring" tab has a chart of how scoring works in multiplayer, for any number of players and possible scoring combinations.

In case you can't/don't want to look at the Scoring tab, sk's right: total points = players. Winner gets 3 points, second place gets leftover points.

Ties change things. If multiple people win, the total points are split amongst the winners. If there's one winner and multiple people tie for second, they split the leftover points (players minus 3) evenly.

Timeouts really mess things up, because everyone needs to get points. If there's one winner after timeout, he gets 2 points and the remaining players split the leftovers. If there are ties... look at the spreadsheet, there's no apparent algorithm. And don't play 5-player games. :)
