Daycare at nats?

Hey all,

Attention nats Leaders:

My wife and I are going to be coming up for nationals, with our 7 month old baby.  We both are really hoping to play in some categories. However that seems difficult without having someone to watch our child.  I am sure this must be a dilemmia for others of you as well.

If there was a possiblity of having a darcare set up, if there isn't one already,  my wife would be willing to work it for part of the tournament.

In Christ,
Rob M

This is a good point.  The reason I can't come to Nats is that I can't leave my wonderful wife with all 4 young kids by herself for a week.  If there was something set up to help take care of the kids then my whole family might be able to come.

Of course the problem here would be that most people (including us) are pretty picky when it comes to babysitting our kids.  I know Laurie, and would be fine with her, but for this to work it would take a lot of people, and most of them would be strangers to each other.  I'm not sure how this could be overcome.

I'm a certified baby-sitter with CPR training. Of course I'll be playing so that doesn't really help....

Yep - Here in MN you can take a course via the Red Cross, and then get a cool little certificate... I'll try to remember to bring it to show you at NC regionals.

Several thoughts:
   1)  that was great Sauce and you will be receiving encouragement for it shortly.  (Great example for the new encouragement usage.)
   2)  I had already begun to mull Rob's request when I read Mark's post suggesting my wife.
Pros & Cons with my wife.....
     Cons:
    1) She is my ticket for a 2nd set of Nats promos.  Yet, she doesn't want to play for 9 hours like I made her to in Nats 2008.  Sealed is naturally the shortest category, but I know that is where both Muyle's like to play.
    2) Knowing the law, she can only watch so many children and our child will take up 1 of those slots.  If we can get around the sealed debacle...Rob & Laine's would potentially be the second because of the request.
    3) pay.  My wife and I are not greedy, but giving up free time & watching kids for 8 hours should not be imposed on anyone for free.

   Pros:
   1)  Integrity/Safeness:  my wife is a wonderful, sweet, Christian woman and multiple people on this board can vouch for her.
       *  Security Clearance:  She has been fingerprinted & cleared in our current church, Mercer County Elem, KY/Cincinnati Public, OH/West Clermont, OH/New York School systems
  2)  Experience
       a.  she's a mom of 4 children
       b.  she has a master's degree in Elementary Education and all that it entails
       c.  she has volunteered in 3 different church children programs and have led just as many.

Mark is right, there are some more obstacles to overcome, but I know how much of a concern it is for parents.  Be aware, it will not be an easy task for any one person though.

Hey,

watching kids for 8 hours should not be imposed on anyone

I feel obligated to object to any claim that watching children is an imposition ;-)

I didn't mean it as an insult.  I was trying to state the difficulty of such an important & responsible job.  I just know it is extremely difficult to entertain/keep the peace/etc. age 3 and under kids.  The more you have the more the difficulty exponentially increases.  I just got home from VBS, and though imposition may be the wrong word....difficult is not.

We have a volunteer!!

Of course, this would set up the lawsuits that Nobody was watching the kids.

It is very possible that I will be providing daycare to children during the national tournament.  But if that is the case I will be doing so in Omaha, NE not Boston, MA.

Kidnapping across state lines is really not a good way to earn our trust. I think I'll stick with RDT, even though his certificate will not be valid until December.

Hey gang,  my wife is coming to Nats with me and instead of being bored for 3 days while the rest of Us play Redemption, she will also volunteer to watch kids.  She is coming along to meet all the wonderful people for the first time and then we go off for a second honeymoon (married for 34 years in Sept).

  her experience:
     1) we've raised 3 kids
     2) been in charge of the Church Nursey for a few years
     3) Currently teaches Sunday School for the past 12 years (grades K - 4, depending on the  availability of kids)
     4) She works at the Public Middle school as a Cafeteria Monitor (when school is in session)
     5) Her real job !!!     taking care of the Elderly 4 nights a week in thier own homes.

So this would make 2 volunteers so far and I'm sure we'll pick up some more especially when
we get to Nats.    John M,  any ideas ???
