Local in Delaware

Now that I am retired, I am working on my list of things I was going to do in my retirement.  Two of my items was learning how to play Redemption with the newer cards and host a local tournament.  However, in one of my earlier posts I did not find any "local" players that I could learn from.  So I am now moving on to my second item.

I have not applied yet for an official tournament, but I hoped to do one late June or early July.  Therefore I need to get in a tournament host form soon.  Currently I am inquiry to see if there would be any interest in one.  I am very limited in what I can do.  That is, my wife and I would be the tournament hosts, but neither one of us would be playing.  Additionally, I would need someone to be a player/judge so that it could be an official tournament and I would need some advice/help with the paperwork.

Tournament info:
Sussex County, DE tournament with country hospitality.
Date not yet set, time would be 11AM to 5 PM.
Gaming for 4-6 players.  Small and friendly.  Serving sodas, sweet tea, cold cuts, and pizza with a variety of cookies for desert.
Come out for a quiet day of country fun and fellowship.

Please all interested PM me.  Looking forward to hearing/seeing you.

I am praying that our NorthEast region players see your post. Players from MD or even PA might be near you enough to able to physically be present to help you. However, I myself did my first Local tournament by myself. It was a little difficult and with lots of judging errors. But that should never stop you from hosting tourneys. Have you seen our tourney hosting thread? Our Redemption family knows that if I still lived in your region, I would have already packed my bags and made the 3.5hr drive from Long Island to help set you up. I even hosted a DE State tourney more than 12 years ago. You can do it!

Canceled due to a lack of enthusiasm.

(Looks like I will have to retire to Florida to play in tournaments.)

You could just stop in TN.  But of course, a lot of the people heading to Florida that stop in Tennessee never leave!  :P

I have been to TN twice.  Years ago I went to Knoxville for the World Fair and I have been to Nashville.  My sister graduated from Knoxville and live there for several years before moving back to Delmarva.

However, due to financial reasons, I will have to stay in Delaware.

VJ and Joanne, God will provide! If you build it, "They Will Come!"

Start small. Invite a couple of friends. Play together, even if mistakes are made.

Meanwhile, do two urgent things:
1. Start playing Redemption online live with players.from across the country and beyond ie. Germany.
2. PM TechnoEthicist and ask him when he and his wife can have time to help you kickstart your DE tournaments. They are both seasoned players and hosts.

PM me with heads up when your first tournament begins, which I boldy declare SOON!

Thank you so much for hosting for now at least in your prayers and dreams. All this will be a reality! As a gift, I have awarded the rank to you in advance. Peace and Blessings!

Hey Vaughn! Glad to see that you are willing to do this. Don't give up on this just yet as my family and I will be in Delaware on vacay the last week in June and the 1st week in July. I'm not sure if I could be able to participate, but I can sure try. If a day during those two weeks would work for a local I might be able to pull it off. Let me know if you're still interested. I will also let Josiah and Charles know. They are part of the PA playgroup as well! Keep me posted on this and I will see what I can do!

As of right now, I am not financially able to host a tournament.  Trying to live off of my retirement money is proving to be harder than I anticipated.  This month has been a very difficult one.

Appreciate the response and maybe in the future my wife and I can host a tournament.

I would encourage you to start by hosting a game day/night...that can be hosted for free. You can still hold a "tournament," it would just be an unofficial one.

TO ALL ACTIVE HOSTS:
I'd chip in my $ towards paying for VJ's 1st local tourney. If anyone can pledge any amount (min $1), and once we get to the desired total depending on how many categories VJ wants to have, I will let VJ know that he can be ready to accept our offer to sponsor VJ for him to host his first tourney. I 'll be the one to take care of arranging for VJ's application to be submitted to Cactus. We can target a date by asking Robin which date he can most likely be able to commit to playing and help hosting.

Prayerfully discern.

Post (or PM - preferred) me your thoughts.

Thanks and Godbless.

Hannah and I will sponsor Type 1 - 2 Player.  Let me know how much.  I am assuming between $5-$10.  Let me know the paypal address.

Thanks Chris. If it happens, it will be my PayPal address. I will collect the total, let VJ know we are ready, then ask him (and Robin for that matter), which date will work for both of them. IMO, Sealed Deck is more likely priority. We can then ask anyone to chip in for that as well. Then after Sealed, perhaps the same decks used for Sealed Deck can be used for T1 2P.

Robin, please kindly discern which date would most likely work for you. PM this info to VJ and you can both decide which date to choose, if ever this project pulls through. If you guys think that a back-to-back Fri/Sat Local/District is feasible (sked-wise) & would be more perfect and practical, you can let the team know. We will make sure to make it work. Please make sure to check ASAP if Josiah's & Charles' playgroup can also commit. We can then hit all bases, with a power-packed attendance from some of the best players in the country, & ultimately boost VJ and his household into hosting mode. Please see if you can also contact Brad & Gretel.

I think it's also high time for players to start donating some extra cards to VJ's household. This household it destined to play the game for keeps.

Thanks and Godbless.

I love that our community is rallying around this.  Brad and Gretal havnt been involved for 2-3 years now.

Delaware is most likely out of my range unless we are planning a 2 day event.

I did consider this option.  Right now I am thinking about doing one after the Nationals is over.  It will be a very small event because it will be at my house.  I was thinking about 4-6 people and T1-2P as the only event.  Booster could be option because it seems like it is a lot of fun.

Thanks for the offer, but I should be OK.  When I made the original post about hosting we had roughly considered the cost and we were willing to finance it.  However, since then my wife's car needed repair and my truck needed new tires.  This kind of blew our budget for the month.  Then we had roughly 9 inches of rain in three days and the roof of my "man cave" leaked and now I'm in the process of repairing a wall.

I really appreciate the thought and the prayers.

I did PM Robin and offered to meet him when he comes down on vacation.

Depending on when I should be able to make it out for a tournament. I would only be able to make a Saturday 1 though. I would be happy to do what I can to teach and judge
