Is it possible to host states and such in the Fall/Winter?

People complain about how Redemption isn't played much during the winter and fall months. I'm wondering if it's allowed to host higher level events early during the season to spread out the tournament distribution and possibly allow players to go to more events.

Thoughts, critques, or ideas?

The point of having big tournaments later in the year is so that people have had a chance to get used to the new cards and the meta settles down. That was part of the reason some people objecting to the rescue rule change last year; it came a few weeks before the first state tournament.

In addition to what Chris said, it's usually better for bigger tournaments to be in the summer, when people are more likely able to take a day or two off to travel to a nearby state or regional.

There's also the traditional "tournament fatigue" after Nationals. I know a lot of players (like myself) take anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two to put their cards away after a busy summer tournament season; then things start picking back up in the late fall/winter.

That said, I don't know if there's any written rule against it, but I know that Rob has to approve all Regionals and States, and I don't know what his personal idea on it is. I would assume there would be a bit more leeway with States than with Regionals, but I would probably ask Rob personally if I wanted to host a fall/winter state tournament.

It's different for us in the NW.  Excitement starts to build in early spring when mountain passes still tend to be closed a lot.  A couple locals and district usually fell a couple of weeks before our states and regional.  Except for a few exceptions we don't attend Nationals.  However, the excitement generated by Nationals and new cards usually prompted us to have several locals and districts until the snows closed the mountain passes again.  Weather dictates our Redemption tournament season, and generally causes a 3-month lag to the rest of the country.  But it's better than nothing.

I think states twice a year would be awesome, but not likely.
