Florida Tournaments

Attention Florida Redemption Players - - YMT's Tournaments will be resuming soon!

After a couple years' hiatus from hosting tournaments, I will be scheduling some again in the near future. For those who have attended tournaments at my home or at my old church, realize that all 2014-15 tournaments will be held either at my new school, or my new church, both of which are in Winter Haven. Both are located just off Dundee Road, which is right off Route 27.

My first tournaments will be Closed, as I train my new players how to handle themselves at tournaments, teach them the Swiss scoring method, and make sure they are using legal decks. After I feel that they are ready, I will start to schedule Open tournaments. I may also schedule regular tournaments occasionally at my home for experienced players.

Thinking ahead, I would likely put in a bid for Florida States. If anyone else was considering this, too, please let me know so we can discuss options. Since Southeast Regionals were here in Florida last year, I would presume a Georgia group may want a turn this year. If no one is interested/able, then I would put in a bid for Regionals as well.

As much as I would like to also consider hosting Nationals here in Florida for 2015, unfortunately neither the school nor church has showers.   :(

If you are thinking about attending Florida tournaments, please PM me or post here, so we can work out details for dates throughout the coming school year.

You guys have lots of swamps down there, right? What would we need showers for? ;)

We don't need showers, but I heard rumors that people from Minnesota are fond of taking showers.  :o

Tim, and all Florida players.

I too will be holding a closed tournament sometime next month, as well as planning for a district tournament at my house on Feb 21, 2014.  I was thinking of hosting states and if Georgia not interested in Regionals to try that again as well. The district would be $5 entry at door, and would have T1-2P, T1 multi, T2-2p, T2 multi, and booster draft (which would cost $10 (unless you brought your own booster packs we are using limited, prophets, apostles, patriarchs, kings, angel wars, and priests).  Would anyone be available for Saturday 2/21?  I'm trying to get a somewhat realistic head count.

Last I spoke with my brother he sounded very open to joining. He'd even may be able to persuade his g/f on joining too (she's a gamer who loves kids) and of course I'd be the 3rd wheel, lol so a possible 3 ppl from South FL. I could try to get a hold of the two guys we meet a few years back from Fort Myers see if they'd come. Its been awhile since I spoke to the guy.

Don't think I'm gonna make it. My brother can't and Fort Myers can't either. Only two people interested here and I have ministry obligations saturday mornings that make anything planned difficult.

I already mentioned the tournament to my students, but I would not expect any to make the trip up there since it would be an hour drive and they aren't old enough to drive.  ;)

My son and I will likely attend, and would be interested in Booster Draft, depending on the time of the events. Did you have a schedule planned? Out of curiosity, which promos and prizes did you choose?

Deck check ins at 9 am, Type 1 -2 player, and Type 2 - 2 Player to run at the same time at 9:30 am, Type 2 multi and Type 1 multi to follow, and then booster draft after that.

prizes are TEC packs, and promos for district are King Solomon, also, winners promo are Dragon Raid

Tim,

Do you have a status on tournaments that you are hosting? (not the closed ones of course) I just need to see if I can get off to attend them possibly.

I actually haven't planned past January yet, because my students did not have sleeves on their decks. However, thanks to generous donations and cheap prices from STAMP, Redoubter, Nameless, and everytribe, I think they will be covered now. I will post planned dates after I speak with my students next Tuesday.

A few updates for my Florida Tournaments:

1.) Tomorrow (Saturday) will be my last Closed Local Tournament at my current school in Winter Haven.

2.) Future tournaments will be held in one of two locations:

a.) Awaken Church in the Eagle Ridge Mall (Lake Wales, FL) - the pastor has been substituting at our school during the week, and is very interested in teaching Redemption to his youth. He also thinks our tournaments will be a great draw to passerbys in the mall.

b.) Family Christian Bookstore in Lakeland, FL (near the intersection of I-4 and Route 98) - my wife is an official blogger for Family Christian Stores, so they are very excited about us holding tournaments in the store for more publicity.

3.) Family Christian Bookstores have a great working relationship with my wife, and want to help push Redemption through our tournaments. They have offered to supplement Cactus' prizes for winners with an additional $5 gift certificate to their store.  :o

4.) Please pray for us as we try to keep Redemption growing here in Central Florida.   ;D

Back in our early Redemption days, our group cleaned out the local Family Christian Bookstores of their Redemption product. That's actually where I befriended Counter_Sniper (Joshua Hatfield). He was working there at the time and I was buying Redemption cards and he asked about the game and the rest was history. My brother and I always dreamed of hosting a tournament in their store as it would be great for passerbys or families strolling through the store.

Wow, I haven't seen a Christian Bookstore in ages! They are all going out a business here in the Midwest!  :'(

My new playgroup is comprised of middle and high schoolers, ages 10-16. My old playgroup (who would come to tournaments) are ages 16-20something. I am older than both put together.  ;)

Steven's group are young adults.

Delarosajon,

my playgroups are composed of mostly 12 - 19 in age, and I'm working to develop more players in that range, as well as working on an 18 and up group, most of which will not be in attendance of the 2/21 tournament, but should be at future tournaments that I'm hosting this season.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best guess on attendance may be around 15-20 if all I've heard from are able to attend this Saturday.

Steven

Steven,

Is 9am the time for deck checks, or for the beginning of the first round?

Delarosas,

Are you guys going to be staying with me? If so, I need time to prepare the guest room, so let me know as soon as possible.
