PERRY COMO
This was a great tournament, and a great way for my family to connect with the playgroup here. I enjoyed the mix of brand new players and national champions. I was quite a bit rusty myself (not having played since Nats), and made a couple big mistakes in T1-2p. I felt really badly about being 1-2 after three rounds, but then I found out that Justin Alstad was, too. Thankfully I didn't have to play him, and I was surprised to end up as high as I did.Type A was quite competitive with almost as many players as T1-2p. The championship game ended up being my oldest daughter Alecia (undefeated) against my other daughter Katrina (1 loss at that point). It was a close game, but losing SoG proved to be too much of a mountain to overcome for Alecia and that ended up giving the victory and the 1st place finish to Katrina. She was extremely happy to win the new Dragon Raid card in addition to bragging rights over her sisters.T1-mp was a lot of fun as well. There was a lot of defense for a change, thanks to myself and my 3 daughters playing. The first round I came in last with only 2 LSs, but I was impressed with my daughter Julia (7yr old) who ended up with the tie (with Hobbit) for first with 4 LSs (all taken in her final turn). Meanwhile my other daughter Alecia won her first game despite playing against 2 national champions. In the second round, I was able to barely get the win in my first ever game against Jayden Alstad. Being able to use his own Garden Tomb against him to get LSs #4 and #5 was ironic, and his top card was the SoG he would have needed for the win at the end. In the final round, it was all Underwood's as I had to play my daughters Alecia (who had 2 wins already) and Katrina (who didn't know how she ended up at the top table). It was another close game, but I was able to eek out the win and pass Alecia in points to take 1st place overall. As always, Bill was the consummate host. He was generous with the prizes for both winners and losers as well as with the food and free older cards. He played the entertainer for the kids by doing a variety of tricks and funny voices. All that was missing was Type S. Thanks to him and everyone for a great family day of Redemption.
