Title: Concert at 2010 Nationals?
Post by: Colin Michael on July 27, 2009, 06:11:08 PM
If this happens, who is in a band, what is your style of music, who is in your band, how many songs can you do, and do you have a myspace?

My band (The Troubadours, myspace.com/troubadourmusic (http://myspace.com/troubadourmusic)) is an indie/post-punk/pop band from Nashville TN. Our band members include board members Polarius, Katsu, and myself. We can play a good hour and a half to two hours: about twenty songs.

I'm basically a soloist, and I find musicians who can play as my backup band. I could play an hour or over an hour, however long you'd like. I'm a keyboardist, and the style is usually a keyboard trio, sometimes a more standard rock band (heavily influenced by the 80's). As far as my influences, think along the lines of Bruce Hornsby, Kansas, certain New Wave bands, amongst others.

You can find my MySpace profile in my signature, but it's not much right now. You can, however, find one song I've recorded (a more classical-style song).

Sounds like for some of it the singing is in a foreign language. It sounded somewhat German but with the inflections of a romance language (which would be a common mistake of a non-German speaker).

If you're referring to my song, it's all in English, but some of it is in "old English" (like King James English). It's actually based on a poem by William Blake, but the music is my original composition. I can see how you might confuse some of it with German, because the way the vocalist sings is in a real classical style, almost operatic. Here are the words:

Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead
Gave thee clothing of delight
Softest clothing, wooly, bright
Gave thee such a tender voice
Making all the vales rejoice
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?

Little lamb, I'll tell thee
Little lamb, I'll tell thee
We are called by His name
For He calls Himself a Lamb
He is meek and He is mild
He became a little child
I, a child, and thou, a lamb
We are called by His name
Little lamb, God bless thee!
Little lamb, God bless thee!

I'm pretty sure that's Shakespearean English and not old English.

FWIW, Wlliam Blake was an English poet, illustraor, engraver, and genuis of the Romantic period. He wrote approximately a century and a half after Shakespeare.

Sample of Middle English...
Quote from: Geoffrey Chaucer (The Canterbury Tales)
Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his half cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(So priketh hem Nature in hir corages),
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages,
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes,
To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
And specially from every shires ende
Of Engelond to Caunterbury they wende,
The hooly blisful martir for to seke,
That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke.

Sample of Old English...
Quote from: Unknown (Beowulf)
HWÆT, WE GAR-DEna in geardagum,
þeodcyninga þrym gefrunon,
hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon!
oft Scyld Scefing sceaþena þreatum,
monegum mægþum meodosetla ofteah,
egsode eorlas, syððanærest wearð
feasceaft funden; he þæs frofre gebad,
weox under wolcnum weorðmyndum þah,
oð þæt him æghwylc ymbsittendra
ofer hronrade hyran scolde,
gomban gyldan; þæt wæs god cyning!
Ðæm eafera wæs æfter cenned
geong in geardum, þone God sende
folce to frofre; fyrenðearfe ongeat,

Let me know if you need a mandolin-player.

As an accomplished musician, I will say that Kutless is better than Third Day.

Actually, I will say that ANY band is better than Third Day except Green Day which is equally as bad as Third Day.

Serious warning--the video above is far and away the best SonSeed song. And the Father Will Dance has been know to cause grown men to weep.

Context is irrelevant when discussing the JONAS BROTHERS here... I mean, have you heard one of their "songs?" I'll take some nasal grunting over that any day. At least it doesn't corrode my eardrums.

I wouldn't be opposed to some area where people could play/listen to music, that could be real cool. However, I hope that unlike SE Regionals 2008, there is some place to escape the sound and not force people to get by on 1 hour of sleep the next day. The weaker among us (like myself) can't do that.

Actually, that's news to me, but I suppose that a band like Skillet would draw in a non-Christian fan base as well.
Doubt it.

Actually, it's true. There are a number of mainstream Christian acts that non-Christians listen to. Skillet is one that has enough talent to where a non-Christian could listen to them and not necessarily care they're being preached at.

Skillet puts on an awesome live show.

I've heard they even have knife fights there!

Then they're probably dissident Christians who listened to Skillet when they were Christians.

Or as Fresno said, people just like the music and don't care about the lyrics.

People don't listen to Christian music when they are able to listen to infinitely better secular music.

That's not true at all. There are a number of Christian bands accepted in the mainstream (i.e. Underoath). Non-Christians tend to be more flexible about listening to lyrics with Christian meaning than Christians are about listening to bands with offensive lyrics.

Demon Hunter, Flyleaf and Switchfoot are probably the most famous in the secular world.

The Devil Wears Prada has a massive following....secular mainly

See, the Devil Wears Prada and Underoath aren't CCM bands though, they're openly Christian bands with a secular market.

Contemporary Christian Music.

But that wasn't what the discussion was about. The discussion was about Christian bands (or bands with a Christian message). CCM was never even brought up.

Actually, the discussion was the possibility of a concert at 2010 Nationals.

I had a weird dream that some kid on the boards was able to get Attack Attack! to play. That'd be horrible.

Skillet has enjoyed mainstream success for some time now.  POD has been featured in a number of movie soundtracks.  Switchfoot occupies like half the Walk to Remember soundtrack.  Come on, I know you're more up to speed than this.

More hilarious than that is this one...

That is straight up amazing! I can't get over how accurate it is, there has to be thousands of songs out there that have that exact same breakdown, haha.

I'm in a christian metalcore band called All of the Above.. We're more or less just starting out, but we're pretty decent. There's a video of us performing our first two songs after 3 practices and before we got  a bassist on my facebook, myspace, and on youtube. www.myspace.com/princeofthisgame (http://www.myspace.com/princeofthisgame) www.youtube.com/theprinceofthisgame (http://www.youtube.com/theprinceofthisgame) the video is called 'all of the above's first performance.' (on youtube, search for 'all of the above iowa' if you don't find it right away.)  The other band members don't play Redemption, but would love to play a set if its within a few hours drive.

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but if you want a concert at a Redemption tourney, you need to have Apologetix! (Going to my 5th concert in two weeks.)

+1 I second this! I've never been to a show, but I hear they're awesome. I have all their CD's expect for their last one, and I haven't yet pre-ordered their new one.
