Closed Deck

I was wondering what most of the other tournament hosts did for this?  Meaning in addition to the starter deck, what is normally added to it?

Any booster packs the host has available can be added...each player chooses three of them. I think some people tried using a TexP and a booster of choice instead of three boosters, but I'm not sure if that's actually legal. You'd have to ask Rob I guess.

Personally, when I played Sealed I usually grabbed one each of Kings, Patriarchs, and Apostles. Since each deck (G and H) had an OT and NT side, (Exodus heroes and NT EC's for G, NT Heroes and Exodus EC's for H) the Apostles typically boosted the NT side, the Pats typically boosted the OT side, and the Kings helped on both sides.

Any other "official" hosts know the answer to this question?  I feel like I've bothered Rob enough!   :P

I agree with the "other Prof" :)

Usually the host will let players choose 3 packs from all the expansions still in print.  If you are at a smaller tournament (local or district), then sometimes there will be a bit less selection (ie. not all expansions will be available to choose from).

officially you have to provide All i print packs and let the players decide which three they want.....

but anything under a state i dont see a problem offering a mixture to all players.  if you only have kings and priests.   just let them paw through what you have.

And always get 3 Blue packs cause there is no better feeling then pulling a AOC out in a Sealed deck game.
3 Prophets Packs ftw

OK, so if I'm understanding this right, I just lay a bunch of packs down and say you pick ANY three you want, and it can be 3 of the same kind as well.  I took it as every player had to have the same kind of packs, but of course that could be my ignorance setting in!   :D

Nope.  It's the player's choice.  (unless you are at a smaller tournament and the host only has very limited choices which causes everyone to have the same packs).

OK, one last question do they pick the packs before or after they know which deck they have?

Added:
Just kidding!  I have another one!  I'm currently using the E/F starter deck because I've acquire several of these.  For higher tournaments do I HAVE to use the G/H or can I use my E/F decks?

OK, one last question do they pick the packs before or after they know which deck they have?  I think officially they pick them before they know.  I preffer to pick after I know.  As long as it is consistent for all players I dont think it makes too much of a difference

If you get to look at the starter or not is all up to the host as I dont think there is any offical rule about it.

That was my general feeling about it too, I cant seem to find a rule concerning whether the players are leagally allowed to look at the decks before hand or are prevented from seeing them.

I actually have a vague memory that there is a rule that says that you are supposed to pick packs BEFORE you find out which deck you have.  However, I don't remember where that rule is, and I would be fine if such a rule didn't exist.

The main reason I asked is, because I'm using the E/F decks and one of them has silver as half of the offense.  And if you knew you had that deck before you picked your packs then it would be silly not to pick 3 Angel Wars packs just so you could run a full silver offense!

Note:  While the Angel Wars set lacks a lot of GREAT cards, having one colored offense in closed deck is a big advantage!

I believe ive always been told that i have  to pick the packs before looking- of corse i love  have more of an advantage by looking first
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!
