Hey,

You can download the Career RNRS speadsheet from the following link:

http://www.freewebs.com/redemptionne/(10)%20All%20RNRS%20Separate%20Pages.xls

It includes all tournaments through Nationals 2010.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

I have a question on the middle columns of the analysis.
What do the numbers stand for in the columns below?
Column 3: 01-01  all the way through 01-09
Column 4: 09-09  through 01-09

Also, it appears you value Net Totals more than grand totals.  Any reason why?

Personal Note: I thought I hit the 1000 point club last year...alas, I guess this must be the year for me.   :P

Again, good job Tim.

Thanks Tim,
I know it's a lot of work to keep this up every year, and I appreciate your service to the overall community by doing it.

I'm curious what the "Extra Points" in the next to last column are for.

Without looking at it again, it might be online points. I don't remember seeing that on there.

I'm not Tim, but I'm assuming that...
Extra points are the tournaments you win after hitting the max number of points.  For example, winning 6 locals in one category or 2 Regionals in one category.  Those are considered "extra" because they don't count towards RNRS, but you did still win those tournaments.

At least, that is what I took it to mean.

Alex, there is an Online Column so its not that.

I like how Tim is in second, when John M actually has more points...

The rankings go by legit points that Cactus counts. That's column L. John only has more points if you count the ones that are earned by winning them beyond what Cactus allows (2 District, 5 Local, 1 State and higher).

Ahh, okay. I was going off of what Prof Alstad quoted.

In other news, I'm about 125 places above Sauce.

Tim,

It seems that the spreadsheet is missing my 2nd place 2004 National Tournament T2-MP points. It seems you gave them to Justin. Everything else looks pretty good on my row though.

Here's an interesting stat:

Highest ranked player based on their first year of earning any RNRS points:
2002 - John Michaliszyn
2003 - Justin Alstad
2004 - Ben Shadrick
2005 - Tyler Stevens
2006 - Gabe Isbell
2007 - Mark Underwood
2008 - Robert Mulye
2009 - Ben Michaliszyn
2010 (AKA Rookie of the Year) - Chris Fachman (who beat his brother by 2 pts)

I'm gunning for the 2011 slot.  Kinda embarrassing that my brother had point(s) a whole season before I did.

What do the numbers stand for in the columns below?
Column 3: 01-01  all the way through 01-09
Column 4: 09-09  through 01-09

Those are the RNRS points that the player won in the given span of years.  Column 3 allows you to look back at how the rankings looked in past years (i.e. what did the rankings look like after the 2005 season).  Column 4 allows you to look at how players have done in recent years (i.e. who has the most RNRS points in the last 3 years).

Quote
Also, it appears you value Net Totals more than grand totals.  Any reason why?

Total is the sum of all of your year end RNRS totals for all tournament categories over all years.
Grand Total includes all RNRS points you have ever won.

The difference is that Grand Total includes extra points and online points.  Which don't really/shouldn't really count (or at least shouldn't count the same way).  Grand Total exists because they are still numbers, they're still tracked, and some of us still care.  The net Total seems like the truest measure of lifetime success thus I have the list default sorted by that column.

I see Total, Grand Total, All Open, Open 2 Player, and each specific Category Total as the most valuable lists, and find myself most often sorting by those.  But it's a spreadsheet so you can sort it however you want to, you can also fairly easily add new columns and sort if in different ways as you see fit. (I've been wanting to make columns for RNRS points according to various levels of tournaments, but the equations for that are a little more involved.)

I like how Tim is in second, when John M actually has more points...

Interestingly/Ironically prior to 2010, I was second but Chris Bany had fewer points. ;-)

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

17.5 points for the WIN!
divide by 6 and we get a grand total of almost 3!

It will be interesting to see how many spots I drop from 42nd after a year of not playing Redemption. (minus the first local tournament of this tournament season, played in the van on the way to Nationals last August.)

I think this is a really cool statistic but I guess I am biased because I am on it!  And look at the great players that are on there.

Might have to change my tag line to 2008 rookie of the year.

I admit that I have been following this stat for a few years due to that bias :)

I'm glad to be representing 2007.  I have many friends in that class, which included people such as Knight o Time (Rod Stewart), Josh Knitt, Luke Wolfe, Gretel Coverdale, Steven Shyers, Uthminister (Travis Brown), YourMathTeacher (Tim Harmon), Caleb Clark, and several of my own playgroup (Robert Harrelson, Michael Saucedo, Nate Schiro), and some guy named Rob Anderson.  And those are just the people who I recognize :)
