Round 1 vs Sam G.
For the opening round, I decided to use a deck that was comprised of the Judges/Daniel Angels offense that I used in MP and a defense that I had been using in a different deck the past few weeks. Essentially it was a Magician defense with Gomer, Spirit of Temptation and Deceiving Spirit. I had a great opening hand, that included AutO so I was ready to rock and roll from the start. I didn't have any good enhancements so I decided to do AutO to grab Moses. Sam was using Crimson and used Invoking Terror to stop Moses. Oh well. On my next turn I drew a Wheel, so I grabbed AutO and tried with Moses again. Sam blocked and played Drawn Sword. Good grief, two FBTN attacks on the first two turns and both stymied...this wasn't going well. His offense meanwhile was having no trouble as my defense didn't draw well and pretty soon I was down 5-2 though I did have SoG/NJ pretty quick. I finally managed a block and in the process played Besieging the City to slow him down. I couldn't believe my good fortune as I drew Mayhem on my next turn. I decided to not attack, and just played SoG/NJ to get my hand down to 8 (not wanting to tip him off that I had Mayhem in case he also had SoG). On his turn I played Mayhem and he was without a hand all of a sudden. He passed and on my turn I made a successful rescue to pull even at 5. I also redrew some defense with Mayhem and he was unable to get past for the rest of the game. I got to 6, then he used a DoU to shuffle away his LS which stalled me a few turns. Using Urim and Thummim I discovered that he had drawn SoG/NJ...which was pretty unfortunate since he was already at 5, but my LS were hiding finally. He drew a couple LS, but the only LS in my territory was a Hopper he had drawn. He passed, and I held my breath as I drew one card at a time hoping to not see any LS come out. None did, and I walked in with a Daniel/Michael band after he used SoG to get to 6. Really a great game that was ultimately decided by Mayhem. Final score: 7-6
Round 2 vs Britta A
Never easy playing your siblings because I always cheer for them when they aren't playing against me. This game was all about the Captain. I had a Captain of the Host in my opening hand, and she drew plenty of LS for him. Using Captain and Angel of the Lord I rescued 5 LS in the first 6-7 turns. However, she stopped drawing LS and I was stalled for a bit. Meanwhile her offense broke through a couple times and it was 5-3, neither of us having played SoG/NJ. Once again I managed to pull off the Besieging/Mayhem combo and she was left without a hand, however, the only LS she had was the Female, and I wasn't using any ladies. Finally she drew a couple more LS, but by that time her defense had built up and she stopped my Captain banding chain with a bunch of Egyptians with a Wonders Forgotten on the end. Then she used Burial to stop a second Captain band rescue. However, my defense had also built up and she couldn't break through either. In the end, she ran out of ways to stop Captain and I walked in for the last two. Final score: 7-3
Round 3 vs Mitch S
Not exactly sure why, but I decided to try my other deck to see how that would fare. As it turned out, I'm not sure either deck would have done very well as Mitch had a very prolonged LS drought. I rescued the first LS he drew, but then he didn't draw another one for a good 7-8 turns. I was using Genesis/Heretics and by the time he drew more LS, attacking him made no sense. He had converted an EC so my Zeb wouldn't work, and I couldn't draw a Jacob to use RTC, which was the only way around his defense. In the end I made a few nice blocks (including using a Great Image to slow down his offense and finally drawing a Philistine so I could grab his Dragon Raids with Land Disputes), but I could only use Jacob RTC twice more (one time he used Burial) to get to 2, and then use SoG/NJ for a time-out loss. Final score: 4-6
Round 4 vs Kirk D
After the failed experiment with that deck, I switched back to my main deck to play Kirk. I drew an early Michael but with nothing to use on him. Knowing that Kirk was using some kind of combo deck that might be thin on actual blocking cards, I decided to risk it and see what happened. As it turned out, it worked. His Forgotten Histories couldn't beat Michael's high attack and he didn't draw much else. So Michael got a couple of LS just winning by the numbers. However, on the third attack, Kirk finally had enough numbers to create a mutual destruction and I still hadn't drawn any enhancements for Michael (very frustrating). So I got LS #3 but no more Michael. After that I didn't really have any good attack options and that stall was just what Kirk needed to get his combo rolling. After that, I couldn't do much other than play SoG to get #4. Final score: 4-7
