Anyone else feel that teams events should have double-prizes?
« on: October 25, 2010, 12:13:45 PM »

I've played teams events in tournaments for a while now, and I've become frustrated that the winners have to split the prizes between them.  I know this is because the team pays only one entry fee for two players, so splitting the prize makes sense in these cases.

But I'm wondering if tournament hosts also have the option of making partners each pay the full entry fee, and then both the winners will get the full prize?  (The downside of this though is that it becomes more expensive to play and lose :( )

Here's an example.  If we have a local tournament where the entry fee is $6 but you get to play in all 4 events, this is a pretty good deal to a player participating in all 4.  But if, because of judging events, I were to participate in only the teams event, I'd pay the $3 (half of the fee) to get $4.50 Redemption cash IF we win first place?  And then we have to decide which of us gets the one prize card too?

I guess I'm just wondering how others do it, and if getting double-prizes for the teams winners is an option if everyone is paying the full entry fee for the event.  Thanks!

Though I don't play teams, I think both teammates should get the first place promo (and still split the boosters/cash).

If the prize output is increased, then so would the cost for hosting the category. Cactus still needs to be making a profit somehow in order for the game to continue production.

That's all fine and dandy, but try splitting an odd number of packs/cards and you can see the issue. If not double, can it at least be made even numbers across the board?

Wonderfully put, which helps explain some of the problem.  Two players cannot split one "Victory card", nor can they divide 3 packs or a $9 Redemption Cash certificate.  Why not increase packs to an even number, and increase Redemption cash to something like $10, and send TWO $5 certificates?  Otherwise my partner and I have to work out who is going to give the other cash to buy out their share of the Redemption Cash.  It is VERY inconvenient.  If we want this type of event to see a lot of play, as I do because I enjoy it quite a bit, let's take away those things that discourage players from participating in it.

Because that would be more expensive.

Cactus should give out $1 less (and make it 2 $4s) and only give out bad random TXPs (like Large Tree) so neither wants it.

In most tournaments I have been at, one person takes the "winner card" and the other person gets the 1 extra pack.  Everyone has seemed pretty happy with that arrangement.

But both Sauce and I have over 9000 winner cards. We might not have over 9000 of the rare in the pack. What's going to happen when we win with our Noah decks in Teams?

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

That's two elders who rule that the world will end when Sauce and I win with Noah deck in Teams.

I guess we'll wait for 2012.

Prof U =/= Prof A. One is smarter and way better looking than the other. Out of my great humility, I will refrain from specifying which one, so as to avoid hurting Mark's feelings.  ;)

Yes, because centuries of observing celestial events and intricately calculating when said events will take place with amazing accuracy was really all rooted in an intense hatred for a wolf man from Austin, MN and the desire for his first year of college to be cut short by a cataclysmic event that would end the world...likely.

Your "I Agree" sign pointed to Prof A. Therefore you agree with him. This is undeniable.

I srsly trolled the Mayans then. Taking my first year of college this year. Woot!

It's alright, I'm fine with you being better looking.  And I'll refrain from pointing out who can decimate the other in competitions of the mind (Tetris/LOTR Risk/Diplomacy/Star Wars Epic Duels/Twixt/Fortress America/Ticket to Ride) and body (Tetherball/Fussball/Jenga). :)
