If YMT even wants that. Which if i remember right, he's repeatedly said he doesnt.

I said I would not go to Natz. I never said anything about Natz coming to me.  ;)

I'm sure you'd love the hyper competitive players coming to you.

To be fair, the game seems to be pretty concentrate in the NE and midwest(for the sake of this argument, TN is midwest) right now with smaller active pockets in FL Texas and the Northwest.
I appreciate how places like Columbus and Knoxville--which are (within error) equidistant to Boston and Minneapolis--are considered part of the mid-west when discussions like this occur. Has anyone ever heard someone claim with a straight face that Knoxville is--for the sake of argument--in the northeast?

This doesn't have anything to do with Nationals; I just find it amusing.

I recently heard a comedian from Idaho say that according to people in the Northeast, the Midwest is anything west of NY, north of FL, and east of LA. Apparently he was right.  ;)

Are you referring to Minnesota as the Northwest?

That would make STAMP like the Far Far West?  :P

Mar Far West, domo arigato.  ;)

Just remember, survivalists live in the real Northwest, so our playgroup will never, ever really die.  We're worse than zombies, but don't eat flesh or promos.  ;D

To be fair, when I was in college I met many people from the "Midwest" who thought New England was part of Great Britain.  ;)

Is minnesota not a part of the midwest anymore?

For most of us, it might as well be. It's a far away land where the people talk funny and have weird sporting events like rowing, and soccer.

For the sake of your argument, Minneapolis is a thousand miles northwest of another Midwest destination, so it makes sense.

ITT: Nobody knows what the phrase "for the sake of this argument" means. Yes I know that Tennesee is not part of the geographical midwest, but of the south eastern states it's the only one with a large enough play group to host nationals so rather than say that Redemption is concentrated in the NE, Midwest, and Tennessee, I just included Tenesee as part of the midwest.

I think I am actually further west than Cleveland!  :o

For the sake of argument, the panhandle of Florida is considered South Alabama to those of us way down in Central Florida. They're in a different time (twilight) zone than us.  ;)

It's not. I think (from all I've seen of you and such) that you'd be a great Nationals host. I am very confident in your abilities. I was just really surprised you were even open it (since you often bash the competitive player base) and when you were, I was wondering why you'd even want those competitive players to come to you and ruin your players' tournaments. I don't see how you've changed views out of nowhere, that's all. IIRC, you said something along the lines of you never want to attend a nationals because of the spirit of some of the players, and hosting would certainly count as attending.

Your assumptions are all incorrect, which is why I found it odd that you singled me out in this thread.

Attending a Nats would not be the same as hosting Nats, and I'll explain why. As a host, I can control the atmosphere of my tournaments. If players are getting out of hand, I can do something about it. When I am not the host, it would not be my place to intervene (except in extreme circumstances, of course). Also, I have found that even the most competitive players scale down when they are among young players who are just there having fun. They tend to actually assist their opponents in game. My players enjoy this interaction tremendously. This is one of the reasons I oppose Top-Cut.

For me to attend a Natz would mean that I would have to play against highly competitive players, which is a whole different ball game. In spite of what you may think, I am highly competitive myself, which is one the reasons I don't play in my own tournaments. In case you haven't noticed, I am not an easy person to get along with.

Personally I think that the highly competitive players would not come to Orlando anyway, because the whole magical Disney atmosphere would shun them.  ;)

I would come. And if things didn't go well, I'll bet Mickey would give me a hug. Just before Disney World security arrests me for sneaking into the park.

What does that have to do with top cut? Whether I'm in 8th or in 8/8 doesn't matter if the younger player is in 72 or didn't make the top cut, because we won't be playing anyway.

You're right, competitive players do tone it down when playing newbies and young kids, which is why competitiveness is not an issue. Competitive players are only competitive when they are playing against each other, and competitive players enjoy playing other competitive players. To use this as an argument against top cut is ridiculous, top cuts purpose is to eliminate the types of mismatches that make final placing an unreliable barometer of where players truly finished, it has nothing to do with age or competitiveness.

Recall that I used to work at Disney, so I know for a fact that Cast Members are trained on how to identify highly competitive gamers and avoid them. If you have ever had one of the characters suddenly take a break just as you were approaching, then you know what I am talking about. Guardian probably got a hug because he is not highly competitive. He just happens to win all the time.

FWIW, I will not be responding to the Top Cut questions per Guardian's request. That was not really the main point of my post anyway. It was just an aside that popped in my head.  ;)

This discussion has morphed from this years Nats location to geography lessons to Disney to Mickey Mouse to hugs...yet we can't talk about top cut? Ok.

That is because Top Cut already has its own thread. I'm sure if there was a thread devoted to how little Americans know about the geography of their own country, then those posts would have been redirected as well.  ;)

Attending a Nats would not be the same as hosting Nats, and I'll explain why. As a host, I can control the atmosphere of my tournaments. If players are getting out of hand, I can do something about it.

Statements like this are why Alex questioned your interest in hosting Nats. You might not mean anything by it in this thread, but it's far from the first time you've taken potshots at the competitive community or made an assumption that players will "get out of hand," to the point where you won't even attend a national tournament.  You seem to be under the impression that the overall atmosphere of a national tournament is predominantly hostile, despite allegations to the contrary in multiple threads. Don't judge what you've never experienced.

Don't judge what you've never experienced.

My opinion is based on hostile encounters at state and regional tournaments, so I do indeed have experience with the issues I present.
