I have this great idea to help my newbies with their cards. The Thursday after Christmas, I am going to try to host a Closed local tournament with a win a box category. I am going to buy a box of Txp and Disciples. On top of regular prizes for the type 1 - 2 player, I am going to gives 1st and 2nd place 6 packs each (3 of each), 3rd and 4th 5 pack of each, 5th, and 6th 4 packs of each, 7th and 8th 3 packs of eack, 9th and 10th 2 packs of each, and 11th and 12th 1 pack of each. If i charge $10 a person I will get the cost of the boxes back. What do you think. If I have less than 12 people, I will just do it with a box of TxP. Comments, Questions, Inquiring minds want to know.

Hope I'm invited...

If your trying help out the newbies then I would award packs in a reverse order. Like 11th and 12th get 6 packs
9-10th get 5 packs
7-8th get 4
5-6th get 3
3-4th get 2
Second gets 1
And the champ gets the standard priest packs plus the winners promo.
Just my thoughts. That way your newest and presumably weakest players get the most cards!
Hopefully no one would intentionally lose but to avoid that happening you could do that kind of a prize dispersement randomly at your tournaments

I have often given my players credit for my cards based on their placement in a tournament. So the person who comes in 10th place gets $10 worth of credit. The person in 5th place gets $5 worth of credit. I don't let them use this credit on unopened packs/etc. But they can use it to get cards out of my binders/boxes. I don't do it every time (so people don't tank on purpose), but I've done it a lot.
This helps my "weakest" players to not only get the most help with their decks, but also to feel a lot better about coming in last in a tournament :)

Yea, I have to agree that rewarding those who are already winning will simply create a wider gap between the best and worst. I like Jbeers idea of going in reverse order...I wouldn't tell anyone before hand, just let them know that there will be prizes to avoid tanking.
