1.Is a round robin tournament legal for an official cactus tournament or does it always have to be swiss? I went to a tournament where they did sealed deck as a round robin and instead of allocating a specific time slot for it,you just did your games when you got time inbetween the other categories. I liked that system but I want to know if it would be legal to do at a state level tournament.
From the Tournament Guide, "State tournaments must be a Swiss-style tournament with time limits." (I am not exactly sure why that is.) Since it does not state that for local and district tournaments, I assume locals and districts are allowed to run non Swiss tournaments.
On the bright side, however, if you have schedule enough rounds the only possible difference between Swiss and round robin is the order in which players face each other. Round robin leaves that question open while Swiss forces you to pair opponents with similar scores.
I can't find anything in the official documentation that states you must run the rounds consecutively, so it appears you could run individual games between other events.
2. I cannot find how to score forfeits. Unfortunately this has come up at some tournaments here recently. I know a bye is 3 and a LS score of 0 but how do we score forfeits? is it the same for the winner as a bye?
Once again, from the Tournament Guide, "Forfeitures: If a player forfeits a game that player’s game score shall be 0, lost soul score –5. A player who wins as a result of the opponent’s forfeit shall receive a game score of 3, lost soul score 0."
I don't really understand why I should be penalized (and a 0 LS differential is a penalty) if my opponent forfeits, but there it is.
