Sincerely,

Chad

Count me in.  Most likely my brother, too.  Don't see any conflicts here, and I tried to make sure we'd be free that weekend in anticipation ;)

Welp, these are my excuses for not being able to attend:
Distance - I will be in Sewickley, PA at the time
Work - Saturdays are the only days I won't have any campers
Poison Ivy - there is the possibility that I will be suffering from this by that point in the summer
Sun Poisoning - I will be exposed to the sun much more than I am used to this summer and this tournament is right around the 2 month mark of being at camp
Allergies - Potentially, my sinuses will be draining from being outside so much. Ain't nobody got time for that at a tournament
Uncompetitive Deck - I lack a deck that could be competitive at this level
Money - I probably won't have cash and I need to save for my GACE certification test
No Ride - I don't have a car, and my only ride option (_JM_) would not be able to take me due to the incompatibility of our schedules.
Laundry - I will probably have to do laundry that day and I cannot miss laundry day. Seriously, during the week I won't have priority to the machines
Pumice - I'm going to have to take care of those darn callouses on my feet so that I don't gross out the next group of campers with my disgusting feet
And last but not least: I will have to scrub a week's worth of grime off my skin and hair, and we all know that such an activity can take a long time
I hope everyone has fun at State's this year, but there are just too many things keeping me from going and participating this year!
Love. How did one show it?..By dying. ..the shape of a Cross etched on the history of the world.~CtB

Awesome! Thanks for the early responses. Hoping to see a large amount of interest from Creation, but either way I'd be happy if a small crowd would be there too.

Brief update on the tournament.

Rob has made the new starter decks and tins Tournament legal by July 4th for all categories. I would like some feedback on the next topic.

We will 100% play sealed with the new starter decks. I would like to get a headcount of how many people will play sealed, and should we play this category first, so players may make changes to their decks with the new cards?

With the availability of the new starters why don't we do sealed instead of booster.

It's also a cheaper event for participants?

Couple things

1. Ill be in attendance due to housing arrangements falling through my wife and I will be in the area so ill be there and can help as a co-host (if chad so desires)

2.  Could we flip t2-2p and T2-Multi so people could play in both major categories if they want?

3. With the new sealed stuff what if we tried something totally different and have every one 3 (Di) packs and charge 20 in stead of 12. I know this may be off the wall but it could make for an awesome sealed with the new stuff.

2.  Could we flip t2-2p and T2-Multi so people could play in both major categories if they want?

I would recommend against doing this.  We tried it at MD States last year and the timing just does not work out at all.

Too much advantage to one deck over the other with that.  Disciples can't be used in Sealed because of the way they influence the standings, making it so that one side of the deck will almost always win.

2. Then perhaps we can over come the timing challenge by changing our approach to deck checking and start times of categories. Just because it has been an issue doesn't mean it's impossible. Proper planning and time allotment can overcome timing challenges.

3.  Disciples can offer an advantage but the opportunity to trade, the fact that there are 15 cards in each pack (11 of which are not disciples cards) and the the opportunity to pull other powerful cards makes this seem appealing. (We never restricted patriarchs for G and H just bc someone could pull a plot and jeptha)

It's tough to plan because it's really hard to figure out numbers. I'm a big supporter of keeping the 2Player events against each other.

This point is very valid, first, and second no matter how you plan, they just do not match up in the time of categories.  With the number of players for T1 and T2 in this area, and the number who would switch around to play both 2-players, believe me when I say that T1-MP will be outnumbered (happened at MD states last year) and T2-2P will take hours longer in the end.  It just will, and no amount of planning can help unfortunately.  Trust me, Chris was the one who suggested this idea last year, and I thought it was a great idea, but it does not work in practice.

The ability to trade does not actually help the situation (why trade to make the other deck so much better?), and the power there is just too much to ignore.  Also, it makes Sealed much more cost-prohibitive for a category that is supposed to be there for younger/newer players especially.  Foils should be the only packs made available for Sealed, in my opinion and experience.

Yeah if you are going insist on having non-foil pack, make it TxP, but sealed is supposed to be somewhat cheaper anyway.  With DI, one deck has a ton more potential to get out the DI packs, and no trading is really going to help balance that (not that the other deck has no potential from that pack, Aaron would be absurdly good for the G deck).

You will have players from Creation, I imagine, so you may not want to do a screwy sealed deck. And if I remember, you can't do it that way anyway.

Another edit: Yes, it is hard to not have the other 2 player events against each other. I recommend against doing this as well.

Oh right, forgot that was being released by then.  Well then yeah, DI is definitely unbalanced in favor of I.

There is a time and place to experiment with this, but I don't believe that one of the busiest State tournaments in the season is that time or place. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it under other circumstances (like MD States), but because PA States has traditionally seen an influx of new players from Creation, it's best to stick to what we know here.

This is the first time reading this so I guess I'll be the final decision-maker. Josiah I would really appreciate if you could co-host with me, and help with ruling questions. I love the thought of flipping the categories, but I have to agree with Chris and Dayne on last year's MD states incident. I also agree with Marti that we shouldn't stray from the original schedule of events being that this tournament should see a lot of new faces to the game.

As for the sealed debate I'm going to ask that we stay true to the original sealed and play with foil packs. The category is about a level playing field between amateurs and veterans, so the fact that one player might have a deck that is better is something I don't want to occur.

Maybe within the next tournament season we can try different tournament schedules, and see what is the best way to avoid down time between categories.
