You and a rich person go to the super market, the rich person and you both buy stuff. that is how the draft works. each item represents a player. each person represents a coach.

As much I as I don't really watch most baseball, I feel the need to comment.  This analogy falls apart because in a draft there is a limited number of players(items) and the rich guy offers the items more money than the poor person can, so the poor person can't buy name brand products and instead have to buy store brand(which normally isn't as good).  I am not saying you are wrong, but you should choose a better analogy.  You may also consider broadening your argument beyond people hate the Yankee's because they are jealous.  My dislike for the Yankee's has nothing to do with their performance.  I dislike their ability to outspend most other teams, I prefer the NFL system where everyone (for now) has equal payroll.  I dislike the elitist attitude of a majority their fans, which is not the Yankee's fault but what oh well they got stuck with annoying fans.  I could go on, but none of these points have anything to do with their performance.  Just some food for thought.

This analogy falls apart
It also falls apart because baseball is supposed to be an entertaining sport.  If you wanted to make grocery shopping a competition, perhaps you could see who could get the best food by the time they got to the checkout line.  However, if one person had 13 times more money to spend (ie. Yankees vs. Marlins in 2006) then it wouldn't be a very fun competition would it?

Speaking of the Marlins, they are a textbook example of why money has ruined baseball.  There are 3 things we can learn from their example.  #1 - They have had a payroll near the bottom of all teams for most of their existence, and have also been one of the worst teams for most of their existence.  Thus you can't win without money.  #2 - One year they decided to spend with the big boys, and so in 1997 they were the 5th highest payroll in baseball.  That also happens to be the year that they won the World Series.  Thus you can buy a championship.  #3 - If you look at the overall trend comparing their payroll to the Yankees it becomes clear that the disparity in baseball is only getting worse.  In the mid 90's the bottom of the league was still spending in the 40% range of the top.  Now, the bottom of the league isn't even in double digit %s anymore.

Year       Payroll Rank       % of Yankees
1993       24/28       45.4%
1994       26/28       41.1%
1995       23/28       39.5%
1996       20/28       41.1%
1997       5/28       71.5%
1998       27/28       25.9%
1999       30/30       15.9%
2000       28/30       22.8%
2001       27/30       32.3%
2002       25/30       33.3%
2003       26/30       32.3%
2004       26/30       23.0%
2005       19/30       29.0%
2006       30/30       7.7%

The Marlins won the World series for a second time in 2003, defeating the Yankees.  If you're going to post about baseball, the least you can do is get simple facts right.
May you prosper greatly!

Thanks, I removed the word "one".  Also, I admit that the Marlins winning in 2003 despite having the 5th LOWEST payroll does NOT fit the pattern.  However, I do think that the overall pattern still is informative.

P.S.  How come your still responding to me Sean.  I thought we both agreed for you to not take me seriously on the topic of baseball :)

Somewhat off topic: The Marlins are one of the few teams I dislike as much as the Yankees.

The Marlins try to spend as little as possible on their team so they can make lots of money of revenue sharing.

Sauce, ever heard of the fabled Pittsburgh Pirates? I heard they were even better at doing that the Marlins. I don't know if the Pirates are real though. I think it's just a Pittsburgh Old Wives tale.

The Yankees have had the highest payroll every year since 98. Also, we're not too concerned with what happened 12 years ago.

of course you are. if you were not, then you guys wouldn't look back at all the world world series wins the yankees have. most of our wins happened way longer then 12 years ago. i merly stated a fact that good samaritin 2020 backed up. the arguement was yankees always have the highest payroll. i stated that they don't. it's just a statement.

Of all the teams who have been in the World Series more than twice, do you know which one has the highest winning percentage? (Hint: It's not the Yankees; they were second.)

I'll leave the first question to you. The answer is not the Cardinals.

The Pittsburgh Pirates

If you really love baseball then all of you need to rent Ken Burns', BASEBALL.  It is the quintessential documentary on all things baseball.

As for the Pirates, they had THE BEST shortstop ever to play.  He batted .333/.467/.500 in the 1909 World Series as his Pirates beat Ty Cobb's Tigers.  The most valuable baseball card in history has his visage on it.
