I'd be careful tossing Thome's name up there.

sean, right now, everything you have said is pointing in the direction that you are the people who hate the yankees for no good reason. not being rude, but prove to me otherwise. the corralation is that when people become free agents they are drafted.............. let me put it this way:

You and a rich person go to the super market, the rich person and you both buy stuff. that is how the draft works. each item represents a player. each person represents a coach.

about the payroll, yankees do not spend everything all at once. they spend it over time. (this is the way contracts work.) they spent more all at once then the yankees did all at once. payroll does indeed factor but this is true, one year the orioles spent more.

the steroid thing, research it yourself. it was on one of the websites.

Dustin Pedroia...Tim Lincecum...These are marquee players...
Wow, THESE are marquee players?  I've never heard of these guys.

Randy Johnson...Cal Ripken Jr....Tony Gwynn...Greg Maddux...Derek Jeter
These guys are legit marquee players.  However, other than Jeter, most of them were in their prime before the big steroid scandals (late 90's - early 2000's).  You also have picked some of my favorite players (other than Maddux, just because I hated the Braves).

Pedro Martinez...Mariano Rivera...Jim Thome...Ken Griffey Jr. ...Tom Glavine...Fred McGriff
Most of these are also legit marquee players (other than Thome),  Glavine and McGriff also hit their prime before the steroid scandals.  Ken Griffey Jr. seemed to do nothing but get injured from the time the steroid scandals hit.  And I vaguely remember there being some questions about Pedro and Mariano and steroids, but maybe not.

I completely admit that there have been GREAT baseball players who weren't juiced, and I admire them for that.  However, the number of GREAT baseball players in recent years who WERE juiced has just tarnished the entire game for me and many others.

90s and early 2000s is the heart of the steroid era.  That's exactly when Bonds, McGuire, and Clemens played.  I chose the players I chose for that reason, they played during the height of steroid use.  The fact that you do not realize this tells me that you have little credibilty when talking about MLB.

The fact that you don't know the name of one of the most recent MVP and CY Young winners tells me that you have very little credibility on the topic of MLB.  Pedroia was the MVP of 2008.  Lincecum won the CY Young award in 2009 and 2008.

Give me a list of all these GREAT baseball players that were juiced and I can give you a list twice as long of GREAT players that weren't.

Basically, it means a name that you would see in lights.  High quality players that would give you reason to come see a game.

Good question.  For the sake of objectivity, let's just say a starter in more than 1 All-Star game for MLB, and a starter in more than 1 Pro-Bowl for NFL.

Give me a list of all these GREAT baseball players that were juiced and I can give you a list twice as long of GREAT players that weren't.
But we're not comparing baseball to itself, but rather to other sports.  You give me a list of NFL players who started in more than 1 Pro-Bowl, and who took steroids.  I'll return with a list of MLB players who started in more than 1 All-Star game.  Whose list do you think will be bigger?

That's not objective, that's your opinion.  There are numerous players who do not make it to the all star game or the pro bowl that are more than deserving.

OK, I just saw this now.  Why did you even post in a topic you don't care about and think is lame?  I can't take anything else you say about baseball seriously.

i am sorry. i said the orioles spent more then the yankees 2 years ago. apparently it was either 1997 OR 1998. just fixing my report. also, the yankees do not always have the highest payroll each year. in one of those years that was previously mentioned, the orioles had the highest.

You are the one making claims without proof, not me.  You hold the burden of prrof and are therefore the one who should be providing the proof for me to look at.  Besides, I looked and I could not find a list for the years you mentioned.

The Yankees have had the highest payroll every year since 98. Also, we're not too concerned with what happened 12 years ago.

I just meant objective in the sense that it is a factual method of coming up with a list of players.  No one can argue whether someone was in more than 1 All-Star game or not.  Either they were or they weren't.  And the All-Star game and Pro-Bowl seemed to be fairly congruent and therefore a valid way of making comparable lists for the 2 sports.

That's actually totally fine really.  I'm not serious about baseball, and don't claim to be an expert on it, so my ideas should be taken with a grain of salt :)

In 1999,the Baltimore Orioles had a larger Payroll of : only had 237,546 more than the NYY.

$ 200,000 is not that much, its alot but not a whole lot.
