Can y'all explain why you choose to play Redemption?
When you started and why you have stayed with it?

I started back when it first came out-1996-I believe.
Been on and off a couple of times, but with the new sets-I'm glad I'm still with it.
Also you meet some really nice people.

I started when my youth pastor first came here (Yucca Valley CA) and introduced it to my brother I think 3 years ago. It looked interesting and it had Biblical principles to it so I started playing. I have stayed with it  because I wans't here when it almost dropped out of existence and it still remains interesting today.

My dad had a good friend named Bill Voigt in college. They stayed in touch and Bill mentioned it to him. Bill came down to Austin and taught a bunch of people. Been playing ever since. I think it was in 2004? Or 2003? It was the year Kings came out...

Hmm...I guess I must have started around 2002...a little before Kings came out.  A friend of my brother's (I think it was Ken Locklin's younger brother) gave him some starter decks and they collected dust for about a year, then he pulled them out one day and wanted to play.  We taught ourselves how to play, loved it, and started buying cards.  We went to our first tournament when Kings was a few months old.

I've been playing it ever since, mostly with my brothers and a few friends.  We were really into strategy games (Catan, Risk) and it was one of our favorite ways to spend an evening.

A friend of mine told me about it and convinced me to learn back in 2001 when warriors were still around. I bought some packs, drew a Captain in the first one, and was hooked :)

I was also taught by Bill right when Kings had come out.
An older kid noticed me talking about them and promptly donated his 500+ card collection to me.
I was thrilled and have since taught over 15 people in my school it.

June of 1998.  The only year with no new set.  I started with Decks A and B, and quickly added packs from Limited/Unlimited, Prophets, and Women.  I had collected the whole of those three sets by the time Warriors released in 1999.  Started proofreading and playtesting with 2nd edition starters.

Why?  It is fun, and it is based on the Bible!  The perfect hobby!  I've stuck with it because of Rob, the great players, and because I like the challenge of building theme decks that can win games at tournaments.

I don't remember how long ago it was, but I started playing because my sister and her (then) boyfriend Ken would play it together and I got really interested in learning how (since I've always been interested in card games). At first she didn't want to teach me how to play (I hve no idea why, perhaps she wanted to keep it as something she and Ken could do), but eventually she caved and they taught me how to play. That was back when battles still went by numbers quite frequently, so it can't have been any later than like whatever set was before Angel Wars (I remember I was playing already when AW released because I bought the entire set from Ken).

2006, wanted a Christian alternative, LOVED the game, and the infinite number of strategies. Stopped for about a year cause Master_Chi beat me 5-0 for the first time in my life. Got back into it about 3 months ago. Still shocked by all the awesome new cards!

Stephen
didn't we already have past threads on this subject?
anyways, i didn't choose Redemption, Redemption chose me to be one of it's many players.
i just chose to stick with it.
i learned about the game in September 2004 and i actually started on april 2nd of 05.
i chose to stay with it cause i love the bible, the game, and the friends i'v made.
no matter how hard i try i really can't quit the game and put it behind me.
i will take needed breaks and such.

Same here, got tired of Yu-Gi-Oh! and never got in to MTG. LordZardeck taught me how to play, and I won my very first game with Starter Deck F. Really got into Angel Wars and have owned every Silver brigade card ever printed. Silver was and still is my favorite offense to play, and I'm rather partial to Panic Demons and Obsidian Minions.

And that 5-0 game was the best ever. My first self-capture deck was quite a success.
I'm sorry I crammed 11 cookies in the VCR.

I got really into yugioh back in 2000 and i collected and played. when i met my girlfriend(now wife) in 2005 i tried teaching ygo to her and it failed. They started reprinting every ygo card and values of them were decreasing fast. so I sold my collection and found redemption (heard about it before but no place to buy them). I taught my wife how to play and she used my cards to make a deck and ever since then i haven't been able to beat her. My first set was 10th anniversary tin. We learned how to play with that and we went to nationals in KC in 2005 that summer and had a blast. Now its 2010 and my wife and I have our own playgroup of about 10 people. It is a fun and great game, I love it when the kids at church hear the message and say,"I think that's a card!".

Bonus points if they're in your deck.

On a completely unrelated topic: I just had a new variation idea!

Dude, some youth groups should make that a competition! Build a deck and see who can find the most references from the pastor's sermons in their deck!

Or build a deck, and preach a sermon off of it.  Doesn't have to be a good deck...
