What incentives convinces you to support a gaming project?

As a sidebar from the current kickstarter thread, I wanted to get a gauge of what incentives a gaming company should give to convince you to support their project. Let's keep the gaming idea as broad as possible (board games, card games, video games) so that we can get a wide range of options.

I'll start:
-Group goals always encourage me, because it allows everyone to win
-Special customization that is not game-breaking (I have seen auctions/name to put your face on the artwork)
-Special event only collaborations (cameos from other games, mediums, etc)
-getting discounts on product compared to the expected retail price

I need to preface this with the fact that I only sponsored one game through Kickstarter and that was "Kings of Israel."  Therefore, my knowledge will be limited.

I supported because...
I wanted a discount on the game (I financed a bundle).
I wanted the expansion that added more players (I have a large-ish family).
I liked that everyone got the benefits regardless of money contributed (it would pull in more money to meet more goals).
I like specialty tokens (exclusive stuff is an allure to me as a collector).
I liked the game idea and ruleset (I love Pandemic).
EDIT:  Tom Vassal gave a positive recommendation. I tend to agree with a lot of his game choices in Dice Tower, and upon reflection his endorsement helped in my decision.

That is why I funded the Kickstarter game "Kings of Israel."

This is a simple answer for me anymore:

Create the single best gaming experience the developer can offer.

Here's an example.

I did not play the game Dark Souls until recently. When I did though, I was absolutely blown away by how good the game was. As a result, I will be buying every new game in this series on launch so long as they continue to deliver the same level of excellence.

I find that special little things like pre-order bonuses have started to undermine the quality of games anymore. Rather than spending time making something trivial for the handful of players who buy it early, focus on making the best game experience you can for EVERYONE.

If you impress me with the quality of your game, I will support it with my wallet. Simple as that.

This is a good idea regardless of any particular set.  I wonder if we could get Tom Vassal to do a review on Redemption.  I feel the same way about him that Jon does and I think that a lot of people check out his videos on YouTube, so it could go a long way :)

To bounce off of what Soul Seeker said, I like 'vanity items' that often come with kickstarters (admires his Darth Malgus).

So, if there were to be something like special counters you could only get from being part of the kickstarter, I'd be very tempted to up my contribution (I'm referencing something like the tokens you can buy from Covenant Games...which I also have...).  Special tokens for different (or new?) conditions, markers for + 1/1 we could use in T2, and so on, those would all be great items for those who contribute without giving them in-game benefits.  They could have special graphics that show that you were a contributor, and could possibly be made cheap enough to justify giving out at medium-high donation levels.

FYI, Tom Vasel's BoardGameGeek rating for Redemption is 6/10, with the comment, "Not bad, although the rules could use a major re-write." Not sure if that glowing review being disseminated more widely would do the game many favors.

Out of curiosity, how old is that rating?  Redemption has had some major changes through the years.  I'm not saying he would change it, but I'm curious at what stage in the game he gave that rating.

The rating's date is December 2009, and the comment date is September 2007. So the comment is dated around Faith of Our Fathers release, and the rating after Thesaurus ex Preteritus.

I'd like to have him try out the new starter decks and the new rulebook and see what he thinks.
