Seriously, metal is just irritating to my ears. I like actual lyrics and a nice catchy tune that isn't generated by white noise. And if I want to hear growling, I'll go to a zoo, but keep it out of my songs please.

I don't understand what kind of effect metal has on other people, but it just makes me more uptight than I can be comfortable with for more than a few seconds. A soft tune - especially with wholesome lyrics - soothes me.

Maybe it's a type A vs. type B thing...type A people need to be calmed down, and type B people need to be wound up more? :dunno:

As I said in my post above, what you describe is only Screamo/Death metal. Most of the stuff I listen to actually HAS good singers that you can sing along with.

Maybe I'm just not a big fan of the way the electric guitar is used in metal. :dunno: I really just don't like that kind of music. It's too...impersonal or something.

They have lyrics. they just scream the words. after awhile it's not too difficult to pick up. depending on the song...

Demon Hunter has some nice catchy tunes that aren't generated by white noise.

aaaand Metal doesn't really wind me up. if anything, it calms me down. I've got in the habit of listening to it before playing piano for a competition. kills the nerves.

Agreed.  Their old stuff was pretty good spiritually, but "Hero" was about firefighters?  Not to diss them, but c'mon, you're supposed to be Christian!

It's not about firefighters.  The line "There's a hero living in me" comes to mind.  You're referencing the video, not the lyrics.  The "Best Kept Secret" music video comes to mind here as well, where Jesus is supposed to be the Best Kept Secret, yet the video portrays nothing of the like.  Music videos are artistic representations of the words contained in the song, but not necessarily the meaning of the song.
